  1. I think in order for Duncan to get NHL offers he needs to have a season like last year if not better. He had an decent freshman year, scoring 36pts (16G, 20A), considering the youthful team back then. His Soph. year was his highlight year with 57pts (31G, 26A) and then last year with 40pts (18G, 22A). That gives him 132 pts in 133 games, which is a ppg at .99. I think next year will be his "prove it" year because he came in with very little fanfare, thanks to Oshie and Lee. Not hating on them but they were the ones with expectations to meet and Duncan just slid in. Duncan was part of the great DOT line, well then it turned into the DO line with Toews leaving, and now he has neither Oshie or Toews. So I think this season will speak alot to how good Duncan is.

I have to agree with what was said earlier about hanging the "C" on him. I still believe that he was the benifactor of playing with Oshie and Toews, to go with what was said earlier who's going to create for him cause he can't create for himself

    WCHA-FAN:

I think your analysis is spot-on.

  2. I would bet we could collectively come up with twenty to thirty players who have been and UND and were better hockey players than Ryan Duncan...maybe more. And thirty points sounds about right this year unless he plays with someone who can create for others, cause he sure can't create for himself

Unfortunately, your assessment may very well be correct.

  3. 1) One could argue that anyone could win a national title with teams Hakstol has had the last few years, but obviously that didn't happen. There are teams every year that have rosters that would indicate they could / should win a title, such as UND's the last few years.

    2) "Implosions?" So, let's see: two regular season titles, one WCHA playoff title, All-Americans, etc. Yeah, the Holy Cross loss is terrible, and last season wasn't great (though they still made the most of things at the end when most people -- including myself -- thought they would go down without a fight), but to call the last four Gopher seasons implosions really paints you as a bigger idiot that most people already think you are, and that's saying something.

And don't give me this BS that Sioux fans like to spit out about how the NCAA title is all that matters. Convenient excuse considering the lack of banners under Hakstol and the many that have been hung by the Gophers and other teams over that same time period.

    3) Three of the four classes on the 2002 team were Lucia recruits. Obviously guys like Leopold and Pohl were big contributors and they were of course Woog recruits, but guys like Ballard, Taffe, Koalska, Riddle, Martin, etc. were Lucia recruits that made a huge difference on that team.

And, by the way, 100 percent of the players on the 2003 title team were Lucia recruits, so explain that one. Must have been the influence of Woog's recruits from the previous year that put them over the top, right?

As painful as it is to admit, you are spot on (especially with point #1).

  4. ............As for MN fans getting BC jerseys I have no problem with it. We lost to the National Champs this year, I can live with that. They have a great program and I would rather see somebody from the "State of Hockey" wearing a BC jersey than one that has an M on it!

The problem is, you don't see Gopher fans going out and buying BC jerseys. The same can't be said about our fanbase going out and buying Holy Cross jerseys. It's sad, really, that we have fans that take more pride in another team's loss than the successes that the Sioux have had on the ice. Then again, it has been awhile since we've won the national championship. Not good considering the WCHA dominance for the majority of the last 6-7 years.

  5. Noise makers would be a good idea because since we've made the move from the old arena, the atmosphere had definitely suffered. It appears our fans just aren't as enthusiastic as they used to be.

  6. I never remember this many issues with players when Blais was coach...who knows though if Blais would've done any better with the players Hakstol has.

Quite frankly, I don't think we should be all that surprised. How can you ask your players to exhibit class and acceptable behavior when your own coach can't. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I long for the days of Dean Blais.
