  1. They can play FSU and CMU because they are off the NCAA's naughty list. At least that is the reasoning they'll use. It will be interesting to see what happens if UND gets off the naughty list too.

Just because we may get off the NCAA's "naughty list" doesn't mean our offensive name will condoned by them. If UND should win, and that is a big "if", it doesn't mean anything will change except that we will be using an offensive name in post season play. And, you can bet that the NCAA will appeal, costing us even more money.

  2. The nickname is costing the institution money in both the lawsuit (donated money that may have been donated elsewhere w/o the lawsuit) and potential revenue in game guarantees.

The nickname debate will never go away. The problems associated with it will keep growing.

As much as I would like to remain the Fighting Sioux, it may be time to look at a change.

I've been saying the same thing for months. Change it and move on. How much more obvious does it have to get? No one will play us, the lawsuit is costing us a fortune, and no, I still won't donate as long as the name remains.

  3. You really are a one-trick pony, aren't you? It's too bad your one trick isn't very good. :silly:

I just like to avoid negative publicity. This isn't helping, and Judge Jahnke is getting the lawsuit in the news again. Look how this is all drawing attention away from football games.

  4. Especially not as petty as some psuedo-UND fan attempting to give SUU bulletin board material. TRex is supposedly totally disillusioned by UND's programs, yet s/he has so much confidence in the FB program's ability to win that UND will be running up the score.

Nope, I'm only disillusioned with with the money wasted on the logo fight.

  5. The one thing I foresee from both schools playing SUU is the score being run up. You can bet it will happen if either get the chance. The down side to this is, if we get control of the game early, it would be good to get some of the younger players some field time.

  6. The loser usually only pays court costs in frivolous lawsuits, but not in this case, since it has merit. So, you can forget the idea of NCAA picking up the tab after Janke rules in favor of UND, and UND won't get stuck with the bill after the Honorable Judge is overturned on appeal.

As per the cost of removing said offensive logos, Ralph was warned many times the logo would someday have to go and he chose to ignore it. I'd say either UND or REA, Inc will have to eat the cost. No way this issue will disappear until we get a neutral logo. Sorry, but I'm a UND grad too.

  7. I believe it is in the 5th year that they become playoff eligible, so in that case 2012. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right, at least according to the way I understand it. First year we are still D2, then four more years of D1. The first year of eligibility would be 2012.

As to conferences, no one has a crystal ball to see out that far. Something will open up, just no use getting excited out it until about 2011.

  8. I always wondered why my Grandfather called UND the Flickertails. :silly:

Guess he never got over the name change.

Tell Grandpa to hang in there a few more years, I think he'll get to see us called the Flickertails again

  9. Great point!!! :silly:

Actually, offensive speech IS NOT protected. You can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater, you can't use the "N" word to decribe African Americans, and due to sexual harassment, you can't use the "C" word to any female in the work place. Sorry, but offensive free speech isn't protected.

Getting back to the money issue, it may be costing UND more then you think. How many alums, besides me, quit giving because of the name controversy?

  10. So, any alum who doesn't like the idea of the lawsuit is supposed to just grit our teeth and keep quiet? I sat through enough poly sci classes to fully appreciate free speech. And no, your free speech wanting the Sioux logo doesn't top the free speech of the Indian Nations who are offended by it. Sorry.

  11. 9 conference members is hardly perfect. It leaves a conference member with a NC game to schedule each week of the conference season.

10 is ideal as it still gives each team 4 home and 4 away. The only negative there is you don't play one team each year.

That's less of a negative in my book then having to schedule a hard to find NC game in the conference season.

I think if you look around though, you will find a lot more "9" team football conferences then "10" team conferences. I would rather have to look for the extra NC game, rather then not play one conference member every year. What happens when you skip the big rival? Sooner or later it would happen. It could also happen that you skip the team that wins the conference. You didn't beat them because you didn't play them. Far too many negatives for a 10 team conference.

  12. Given the recent GF Herald article about the Utah lawyers' bill, get ready for the anti-nickname crowd to cry about how big of a "waste" the lawsuit is and how the money could be directed to better purposes. Whatever it takes to beat the NC00, in my opinion, is just fine.

You beat me to the punch, but yep, I do think that the third of a million $ we have just wasted could have been used elsewhere. By the time this goes through the endless appeals, I can see we are talking $1 million+.

No use arguing the merits of the name, we've gone through this before. I just feel it's time to cut our loses and find a new logo.

  13. Unfortunetely, blogs like this will continue until we get rid of the name, once and for all. Maybe we could retire the name and put in the trophy case beside the nickel? One look at the "Sammy Sioux" picture should tell you what the history is behind our name. I say drop the name and move on. Why be held hostage to a name by every blogger then comes along? And yes, I really am a UND grad.

  14. The only possible one I could think of is Minnesota State. They are applying to get into the DII NSIC but it is far from a slam dunk. If they don't get into it then look for them to make the move as well. We should know within a few weeks what their status is.

It's my impression that all four schools, Duluth, Augie, St. Cloud, and Mankato will get accepted into the NSIC. Recent article somewhere had virtually every president in favor of expansion and splitting conference into two halves.

I don't think having a conference with 14 members is a good idea, it's too large, but I'm pretty sure they won't ask me.

  15. Anyone who thinks the SU's are going to leave the mid con in 2-5 years is forgetting one thing: they agreed to an early termination fee of something like $500,000 if they leave in less then 8 years. I realize a half a million bucks isn't what it used to be, but considering how they flinched over paying an up front initiation fee, they aren't going anywhere. Heck, they'll be waiting for us with open arms when we come calling to join.

  16. It was reported on the news that the Lawsuit fund has been shut down. Sounds like they will still accept money if given, but they aren't beating the bushes for it anymore. Does that mean we can get back to the business of playing games and getting into the conferences we deserve and quit this assinine lawsuit? Pump the money into the teams, not the lawyers.

  17. Another GWFC looking for a home game....interesting.

I still can't beleive how many people think UND is going to get to play in Fargo this year. If we have to beg, we don't want the game. What is so tough about that?
