  1. New DI membership standards, some could have an impact on the Summit(especially #8)...

The Division I Leadership Council will put the finishing touches on its recommendations for Division I membership standards at its Thursday (Jan 14) meeting at the NCAA Convention in Atlanta.

The DI moratorium lasts until August 2011, and the Leadership Council hopes to sponsor appropriate legislative changes from its recommendations in the 2010-11 legislative cycle.

    The Council

  2. It's clearly been in UND's interest to resume the series since we moved up to DI, but will recent events down in Fargo change their thinking?

They need to continue selling season tickets: it's their bread and butter for revenue and teammakers. A UND game would help renew season tickets that might otherwise drop their tickets, as UND-NDSU game tickets are not easily available in single-ticket form.

Chapman is gone: the legislature and SBoHE would almost certainly want the series resumed. The interim and new presidents wouldn't have the clout to prevent it.

    Both teams need wins.

With both teams rebuilding, next two seasons aren't really that meaningful for either team.

The only ones fighting this will likely be Taylor a few diehard bison fans that are still deluded enough to think UND football is "beneath" them.

I'd say Gene Taylor is still standing in the way. I'm sure he still feels the sting from the slap Roger gave him by ending the series. I'd say once Taylor is gone there will be some interest down south. The way both teams are playing this year, I don't think you could give tickets away right now for a match up. Furthermore, I think it's bad PR for us to try to get anything pushed through the Legislature. Makes us look whiny.

  3. Can someone refresh my memory as to how long does it take before the NCAA recognizes a new conference (ie. Great West) with an automatic berth, for winning the conference title, into national tournaments?

Longer then any of us cares to think about. Great West will never work for post season. Zero chance of going anywhere

  4. NDSU is pretty much out of options now for an FCS team in Fargo on Sept 12th, assuming that Wagner did in fact move the Bryant game to that date.

UND still has a small possibility to get Sam Houston to Grand Forks if the money is there.

I'm willing to bet that if Faison would give Gene a call and offered something reasonable, this thing could get worked out for this season. Brian, it's up to you.

I'm going to just keep asking. Your guilt is showing by dodging it.

You know, I asked this question before and you clammed up for the only time in your life. What the heck is your infatuation with UND sports and what makes you think you know anything about it?

I won't ask again if you have a job, I've come to the conclusion you don't. I won't ask why you got banned from the NDSU site either, it's obvious.

  5. That literally leaves it to: Portland State or NDSU v UND for DI games on the 12th.

Portland State already has a strong Big Sky schedule plus they play at Oregon State, but they might be convinced to come out to Fargo or Grand Forks.

Or...maybe NDSU and UND's leaders could just pull their heads out of their a$$es and get the damn NDSU/UND game in Fargo signed and sealed with a 2012 return date for NDSU in Grand Forks?

  6. All the other schools are DI.

Hey MPSBison, Two questions. Do you have anything like a JOB? You seem to have time 24 7 to post here. And secondly, what is your infatuation with telling us here at UND Sports how to run things?

I have heard you got banned at the NDSU site and all I can say is "Three cheers for NDSU".

  7. So, please... just go back to your usually schedule bellyaching. You've won. Go live it up off the board.

Mocking people who support a change doesn't help anything. It further highlights the fallacy that the University of North Dakota is somehow committed to "honoring" the Sioux name. Obviously you are only pursuing your own interests and not the cultural interests of an autonomous nation.

  8. PS:I can't wait 15 years when RICK "His dad's horse was Thunder but mine broke his leg and became Alpo :)" has to research a paper on his own people and does a google search for "fighting sioux" and ALL he gets are old YOUTUBE Sioux Hockey videos...what goes around comes around! :(

Your blatantly racist comments are indeed proof of why the Lakota peoples are demanding you stop using the Sioux name. You are not honoring anything with your outbursts but rather are demeaning an entire culture. Yes, a name like "His Horse Is Thundar" is odd, but remember, we, the white people made them change their names from the historical language they once used. Yet another atrocity that was committed when that happened.

  9. But why would we even want to keep this name any more? I would assume that this committee was formed to promote the orderly transfer to a correct name. If we keep our prior logo, we are assured of being locked out of every conference in the nation forever. Let's just do this quickly and move on before yet more damage is done with the Lakota tribes then has already been done in the last 200 years.

  10. Your logic doesn't flow. That's my exact point. You will get your butt kicked by using those names. However "Sioux" has been a name these people have used to identify themselves for a very long time now. That's why your "dagos" example doesn't work.

    Keep trying.

We've been down this rabbit trail before. We all know that "Sioux" was a derogatory name hung on the Dakota/Lakota Tribes by the French. Granted, they use it now, but it's not up to us to say we have a right to use it as we want.

  11. Back in about December of 2006 I made a post about how bad the men's BB team was and what a long road we had ahead of us and I got jumped on all over about it. Basketball was always my favorite sport to watch, and I sure miss the glory days of the 1970's. The longer we wait, the harder it's going to be to return to those days, although I don't know what the answer is either.

  12. This one will be a bit out of order compared to the original, but I'm sure everyone will be able to follow along.

I did find the place where I came to the conclusion you were a student. It was a bit earlier than this summer, but still-I think its reasonable to say that someone who claims to have "classmates" in the spring is still a student in the fall. http://forum.siouxsports.com/index.php?sho...8082&st=101

So, now we all know-yes, you are a graduate.

Can I ask if you are either teaching or involved in politics? I'll be honest, so far just about everyone I've ever run across in politics is either a lawyer or a marketing person of some sort. I've yet to find either an elected/appointed official or even someone who runs a campaign who has a PoliSci degree.

Two can play that game. Here it is, mark it down-on Christmas Day, the sun will rise in the east.

I'll be back on the 26th to accept congratulations from all.

    (BTW, here's a long-term outlook one for free-we'll elect a new president in 2008.)

Ah, this old chestnut. Lemme guess at the next one: if you haven't directed a movie then you can't be a movie critic-right?

Okay, everyone who isn't a UND grad get out of the pool.

-Except for the Sioux themselves. The can stay in the debate.

-And the AD at the University of Minnesota, he stays too. We like him.

-Oh, and whoever writes a newspaper editorial I agree with.

-Hmmm, one more, sympathetic professors and Native American "activists": they can stay too.

-Wait, student protestors at Dartmouth are okay: its good to have their voices heard.

    -And....

    :glare:

I saved the best one for last. The claim of VICTIM status. "Oh, look everyone (hey, is this bullhorn on? Testing....) I'm being persecuted for my beliefs." Simple answer-no, there's no attacks on people just because they say something. I can't claim to have read all the posts, but most of the time people here seem to be talking about ideas rather than personalites. And that's the key. When YOU spout astoundingly simplistic, moronic ideas that are simply breathtaking in their incredible failure to even come close to having a tenuous grasp on reality, those posts are going to be shot down. You need to separate the ideas from the person.

One thought from the other thread-if someone is consistently being accused of being a flamer/troll, and they aren't trying to do that: its time that they leave the forum. And trust me, its not because he's the smartest guy in the room and the rest need a little time to catch up with his intellect. When you keep on insisting that you (and you alone) have the correct interpretation of the First Amendment-and its one that the Supreme Court hasn't quite gotten around to issuing yet-well, people tend to ignore the rest of your ideas.

Basically, this is the last I'm saying for a while. When I referred to talking to classmates, I was talking about old friends I knew and took classes with at UND. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not going into detail where I work or what I do, that's not important. I will say that I am putting my poli sci degree to good use, and no, I'm not an American Bar Association admitted lawyer.

I know this is getting to be counter-productive for all sides. I just don't want us lost in a haze with no name, and I've wanted to retire the Fighting Sioux for a long time. End of story.
