  1. Strange how none of the previous tirades have addressed the core issue of this thread:

Kelley claimed in the media that their was a Big Sky vote against UND's nickname.

Fullerton adamantly denied that, and stated that any vote regarding UND would be on the right to host.

The NCAA has claimed the Big Sky has passed a resolution identical to it's own on the nickname.

Those are the facts, and nobody has refuted those words from either Kelley or Fullerton or the NCAA.

Cleary, someone has misinformed the media and the NCAA.

    It's either Fullerton or Kelley.

Stick your head in the sand all you want, either Kelley lied or Fullerton lied.

Kelley could have taken the ethical high road like Clifford would have done and reported the facts: instead he chose to launch an all-out political attack to get his way.

In this thread, I have never ever denied that the Sioux nickname wouldn't have extremely serious consequences to the athletic department. If the Big Sky banned UND from hosting post-season events, that would be a major blow. There is absolutely no denying that.

But having a President with ethical issues is equally a major blow.

You are the man with all the answers but none of the proof. You are so full of hot air, I'm tempted to put you on ignore, but I really do enjoy the humor. You do not speak for all of us, I'm not sure you speak for anyone, really. Quit thinking this is one big conspiracy and only you can prevent it from happening.

Maybe you can at least answer this. Why is it no one else has these ''facts"?

  2. Says the simpleton that can't process multiple-layered information and must always yield to conventional thought and peer pressure.

For people like you, I will distill the facts down:

    FACT:

Fullerton stated that no Big Sky vote has been taken on the Sioux name. Fullerton further stated that any vote would be if Grand Forks can host any Big Sky tournament. Fullerton denied that UND's membership is in jeopardy.

    Outright Lie by Kelley:

Kelley has stated UND's membership in the Big Sky is under threat, unless the nickname is changed. Kelley has stated that the Big Sky Presidents have voted, or at least so he heard, and the vote happened while he wasn't in the meeting.

    NCAA statement was false:

The NCAA press release from Bernard Franklin's office stated that the Big Sky's policy was aligned with its own. Where in the world did the NCAA get that information? Could only have been Kelley or his administration. Bernard Franklin's office has caused embarrassment to the NCAA, because it listened to the wrong person.

    Fullerton's letter:

The letter was about why Grand Forks wouldn't be able to host conference tournaments. Fullerton probably never intended that letter to be disbursed to the media, but only to the SBoHE and Legislature through Kelley.

The key people for the future are the local media, who consider themselves very sophisticated but couldn't solve a multi-level problem to save their life. The chance that Tom Dennis and Mike Jacobs actually authorize investigative journalism that could potentially cause Kelley his job is a joke. Both Dennis and Jacobs have defended Kelley as if he is some type of high priest or something. (In Jacobs' case, an academic bureaucrat is the pinnacle of spiritual success, so that priest characterization is accurate). Kelley is just a man with his own faults, like everyone else, and Kelley wants the name gone, dammit.

If anyone thinks that Kelley can lead UND into a post-Sioux era, that is delusional.

You keep trotting out these "Facts" without proof, but what we should be looking at is "Reality". If something isn't done and done IMMEDIATELY, we won't be in the BSC. REALITY trumps alleged Facts.

  3. Added a few more lines about the information fed to the NCAA. How could the NCAA sent out a press release stating that the Big Sky has a policy, and not even check with the Big Sky? The Big Sky could have clearly answered that no such policy existed. Is the NCAA so quick to send out press relases, that it doesn't even check facts? Or did the NCAA want to bully the Big Sky into implementing one?

    Kelley's resignation is imminent.

Care to supply proof to all those "facts"? You just keep throwing out stuff with no proof and hope something hits the target. I suggest you go with the flow because the train isn't going to stop, especially at this late point in time.

  4. I would suspect only the Board has standing to move against the law since its powers are enumerated in the NoDak constitution. Arguably, the AG could do the same on his own by going to court and getting a declaratory judgment against the law on constitutional grounds.

I really think Shaft, Stenjhem et al. need to pull some of the top legislators, including those who supported the law like Carlson, into an "informal" meeting at some bar or restaurant and tell them they need to repeal the law in the next session or a special sesssion for the reasons that are becoming abdudantly clear from the NC$$, and the BSC. Timing and certainty are becoming critical.

While some may see this as "cut and run", so is giving over the destiny of your school's name/logo to unpredictable, and unreliable, tribal politics.

I would think the University itself would also have standing to challenge the law. Letting the law go into effect in August and waiting for the special session in mid November is too late. The BSC will hang us out to dry long before then. I honestly am worried about the BSC deciding to give us the heave ho, and we won't have this chance again if they do.

  5. Does anybody know if UND "skipped over" USD in order play mines? I don't handle scheduling for the school, so I wouldn't know. Is it possible USD could have declined to play UND in 2012? Probably not.............UND of course is in a position to pick and choose to play whomever they want at their own terms........... :silly: Obviously UND has an axe to grind agains USD, otherwise we certainly would have allowed them to play us........... ;)

I suspect the problem was it was our turn to go to Vermillion and we needed a home game.

  6. I really thought going to the BSC would put a stop to schedules like this. Playing lower schools doesn't bother me as much as losing to lower schools and we've done it. IMO nothing is gained by us playing down.

  7. Last I heard, Moorhead was running a rather stiff deficit and was cutting programs to the bone. I rather doubt they can come up with the $15 million they are rumored to be needing to start a hockey program.

The earlier reports I saw indicated this whole MSUM hockey thing was being pushed by the owners of the UP to try and make money for their arena. I see failure written all over it. Kinda like Bison athletics.

  8. Why the directive towards Wyo? He didn't start the thread and the post you quoted was the 18th of the thread.

What is to be expected when a politician retiring is a thread topic? Maybe some political discussion? BFD

I understand the board rules prohibit such discussion, but considering the title of the thread, maybe you should have made a choice to avoid the topic. My $.02.

The first post in the thread was simply stating a fact: Conrad is retiring. Mr. WYO Bison turned into a personal slam and political name calling we have all grown to loath during the campaign. I suspect Mr. WYO frustration has more to do with the R behind Berg's name then anything else. I'm not an R or a D, so don't think I'm being one sided here.

Another thing to consider is that Berg has nothing to do with the Conrad seat or the US Senate, so why was his name even dragged into this?

  9. The "Slum Lord" Rick Berg will serve ND well. I have known Rick since undergrad school and the guy is perhaps one of the scummiest opportunists I have ever met. Good luck with that liar as the Congessman.

    Community

Topics of interest at UND, in Grand Forks, and in North Dakota. No politics, please.

We don't need your political mudslinging here.

  10. Sorry. I didn't understand that length of time posting on this forum was the litmus test for being a true UND or Sioux fan. I'll go away now.

Don't worry about it. Length of time here doesn't matter, it comes down to posting what certain people here want to hear. I've been a member for 4 years and was told a few days ago by StarCity that my posts weren't worth reading. Some people just like to run the show apparently.

  11. OK I am tired of hearing about the wins that regional schools have won against FBS and that the Sioux should be up there right with them. Would I like to see the Sioux win against a regional FBS team? You can bet just about anything that I would! But the fact of the matter is that it isn't as easy as some posters make it out to being to beat a FBS opponent! And this point emphasizes that more than any other I have seen. You say that FBS and FCS are basically the same, by using that logic EWU should be playing who exactly, Auburn or Oregon, I guess it would be Auburn since they are #1 in the BCS? I mean the scholarships don't matter and FBS and FCS are the same right?

As far as winning against FBS opposition, it takes a lot for an FCS team to actually beat an FBS team. And by a lot, I mean a lot of skill... and a lot of luck! I mean look at a game earlier this year, UMass lost to the University of Michigan (yes, that U of M) by only 7 points. Are you really saying that UMass is just a bit worse than the UMich? I say no. And last year the darling FCS team of Appalachian St. went to the Univ. of Florida and lost 48-10. That was the best FCS vs. one of the best FBS teams! It is just that as a fanbase of a school playing at the FCS level we only look at the results of several games that have turned out favorably for some of our peer schools and easily ignore the losses of those same teams.

I really wish I could easily find the record of the two divisions records against the other but I am unable to at this point. From memory there are only about 5 victories that I can think of for FCS teams out of the numerous games that were played. So please, to all Sioux fans, don't use the FBS victory mark as a measuring stick for the program!

My point was more so that we shouldn't be playing D2 teams. I'm not all that upset that we aren't beating FBS teams, but it sure bothers me that we lower our standards and play D2, D3, and NAIA teams. I was happy we played out in Idaho this year, even if it wasn't a good showing. But we have to start getting better, both in our play and the quality of the opponents we select.

Overall, I consider our performance in the transition to be an embarrassment. Sometimes the truth hurts, but we have to face it before we can improve it.
