I agree on the scholarships..  but I thought that NDSU fully funded all sports.  And if moving to FBS is going to require an additional 12 for football.  Would NDSU need to add a sport? Which could mean an additional 12 or so for a women's sports to get to the $6 number.  And at what point are the FBS schools who are making up their own rules going to drop the two approaches to title IX.  And go with equal opportunity.  The day that comes you would see a sizable shift in resources at NDSU.  All things to be considered prior to making the move.

Moving to FBS requires an additional 22 scholarships going from 63 to 85

Of course UND needs to get better at recruiting, that’s all of our points. Can you explain to me how him come on this forum is going to get us better recruits? Talk is cheap, I can talk all day long and get nothing done for UND football.

I want to beat out AG U for recruits, I want to recruit bigger and better talent, I want the next Trey Lance or Billy Turner. Just because I say I want it on this forum won’t get UND anywhere. If we pony up cash for NIL or facilities, volunteer my time to fundraise , buy season tickets,  etc, for the betterment of the program is the only way change things.

I don't get the problem we have with recruiting.  It seems like nothing ever changes and now NDSU is pulling them in left and right.  Big, sought after players too.   I think my skin would crawl if I had to sit in the same room with Entz listening to him recruit any kid of mine and yet they they get the job done.   The only good thing about NDSU getting all these top notch recruits is that in 2 or 3 years they'll all be in the portal.

The fact still remains UND isn't doing it right on recruiting and I've complained about this for years.  No, I don't have the answer.

My understanding is that our football program is underfunded. If true, how much would it take to be fully funded? Break down in dollars what is needed and where the money would go.

    For instance:

Increase coaching salaries half million a year

    NIL half million per year

Hockey has proven that throwing money at a program doesn't necessarily get you more championships.

LOL - You don't know what you're talking about.  No FCS program develops players better than SU.

I didn't say develop, I said keep them in the program.   Seems you boys lost a lot of good players to the portal this year.

Well damn.  When is it gonna start as it looks like the top talent in the state is going south.  I know they messed up on Belquist but it seems like the pattern is continuing?

Getting recruits is one thing, using them successfully and keeping them for the next season is something else and both those last two items seem to be a lost art at NDSU.  As long as they have clueless coaches and an AD they are still very beatable.

Lol. Last names on the back of a jersey really isn't that deep!

Lots of schools don't have individual names on the uniforms for the very reason I said.  Whether you agree or not is a different matter, but that's why.

    Last names would be cool

Disagree.  The only name that needs to appear is the name on the front of the uni.   We're a team, and names on back signify individuals.

I guess if you are a YSU fan you would want to think you would only lose to Ohio State and SDSU based on that schedule.  But I would guess they lose at either UNI or USD.....or both.

They sure have an easy schedule avoiding both us and NDSU, but I predict they have 4 losses.   YSU really hasn't been relevant in a while

Most likely scenario is Bubba retires or moves on to a leadership position in the athletic department and Freund gets promoted to HC. Not sure when that will happen, or if Freund will be a major upgrade. If UND loses Freund before this happens because of Bubba and Chaves’ stubbornness, then UND will have to look elsewhere.

As for inbreeding, this is definitely an issue. It’s been an issue for UND and Bubba. It’s potentially an issue with NDSU, but they’ve ultimately done fine with Entz and Roehl - back to back FCS championship games the past two seasons and one championship. UND football would kill for that, let’s be honest. NDSU does expectations/philosophy on a way different level than UND.

I'm glad to see NDSU failing.  Sure looked bad in Frisco, so I'm fine with Entz too, but I wonder if their fans feel the same way.

His contract situation is perpetuated by UND AD, Chaves. It’s intentional, not an accident. Questions should be [rightfully] directed to him on what the true goals and expectations for UND FB are. They don’t seem too high based on timing of contract extensions. That is disappointing, and partial source of the impatience and frustration you cite.

Even if Bubba is somehow eased out (or pushed out) I can foresee his replacement coming from within or strong past connection.  That's the UND way and it's not working.  Ask NDSU if it always works to stay within your ranks.   They went back to the well one too many times and now Entz and Roehl are steadily running the program into the ground.

If you're going to make changes, then make changes.   I've used this word before:  Inbreeding

Banning collegiate athletics booster organizations from profiting from charitable gaming should be a high priority.  If we're going to have "charitable" gaming, it should be for actual charitable organizations.

But is that any different that boosters getting a charitable tax deduction for donating to college athletics?   I certainly don't see the difference.   I'd rather UND find a way to get into the gaming business somehow.     Banning gaming would lead to a rather slippery slope

Season tickets aren't sold out anymore nor is there a waiting list, so probably safe to say they found the top.
Bigger question would be what happens if/when the team performance slips.

I think a bigger issue, that maybe they can resolve with demand down a little, is getting the younger crowd back. They priced them out for a while as they had plenty of people willing to pay higher prices, but likely have a chance to bring some back with where things have been the last couple years.

I have a hunch that teammakers gets less money this year.   With the team laying an egg in Frisco some fans are off the bandwagon.  I also would think their fans would be tired of not moving up and would walk away.   The only games that draw well at the Fargodome are UND and SDSU.

The schedule really is favorable for a high floor.

    • Guaranteed: Drake, Western, Indiana State
    • Feel Confident: NAU, @ Murray State, ISU-Red

Last year, how many would have you put in those camps? There was a lot more 50 / 50 games. I would have put one (@ ISU-Blue) or maybe two (ACU) into one of those categories. Next year, 6. Six doesn't guarantee you anything. Definitely a favorable schedule.

Murry State should be considered a guaranteed win.   If it isn't, then this program isn't progressing.   I expect Murry to be a perennial bottom feeder.

    Probably true.

There HAS to be a solid upset in the first round of the tournament.  Colgate, you will beat Michigan tonight (and then get pounded by Penn St.)!

The way the trend has been in this tourney Michigan will win 8-0

    Another "inbreed" hire....

I'm happy to see we stepped away from that type of hire here.   Mr. Kirkwood looks like a solid coach and it's new blood.
