  1. Speaking of new ice, does anyone know if our ice sheet looks like this yet:
  2. This sounds great. It will be fun to meet other Sioux fans. Hopefully they also have veggie dogs for us non-meat eaters.
  3. I think ksixpack downed a couple of six packs before he created this topic. This is the number 1 most requested event in the history of Sioux athletics, yeah, tickets are going to be hard to get.
  4. Yeah, but they're first row uppers on the end the Sioux shoot twice. I'll have to have a creative sign to hang over the ledge.
  5. I just got mine too. I'm so glad I checked Ticketmaster after the game on Sunday. The big folder and tickets made my day.
  6. I got my ticket via ticketmaster after our win on Sunday. It just came in the mail today. I haven't been able to sleep the last 2 nights. I am so excited!
  7. These are great! How about: 21 = Hrkac 21= Frattin 21= Hobey Baker U-gly Hel-mets Nice Mullet, Melrose! Every Sioux Plays for NCAA Championship #8 It's not Maize, It's Corn
  8. The Tribal Council is an elected body and made a decision. It may not be a popular decision, but I don't always agree with the decisions that my elected body has made. If I could vote on a repeal of "No Child Left Behind" I certainly would. Unfortunately not every issue goes to a popular vote. I don't know when the next Tribal Council elections are, but if Standing Rock is so in favor of the nickname, maybe they should vote for representatives who are also in favor of the nickname. The nickname was an issue in the last election and the people of Standing Rock voted for Representatives who are against the nickname. We have to accept that and move on. We can hope for the one tribe approval, maybe this legislation gave us a little more time to negotiate. Otherwise, the SBHE will challenge the constitutionally of this bill and order the nickname transition to proceed. Like I said, this will never get to sanctions.
  9. There isn't a University President, Athletic Director, Coach, Dean, Chancellor, or Provost in the country that would accept these types of life long sanctions against their school. Accepting the sanctions would not only effect Football, but every other sport at UND that could possibly host NCAA events. Those sports include Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, Baseball/Softball, Track/X-Country, and Swimming. If you think that none of these sports would host any way, you are dead wrong as a number of these sports have hosted NCAA tourneys in the past. While these may not be big "money" sports like Football and Hockey, they still provide an economic impact to both the city and the University. The University will never let this fight get to the point of sanctions. Either we will negotiate with the NCAA for acceptance of the one tribe approval like other colleges and universities received (and has been mentioned on this board), or we will drop the name. Sanctions will never be part of the equation.
  10. Don't bother with the facts of what the ND Constitution says, it is to difficult to comprehend for most on this board.
  11. Accept in this case, it isn't the state's responsibility to administer UND. That constitutional right belongs to the SBHE. I am simply pointing out the republican hypocrisy of railing against government take-overs with one breath, and taking over a choice that does not belong to them with the other.
  12. I am so glad this is a Republican vs. Democrat issue. I always thought that Republicans were against the government getting involved where they don't belong. The passage of this bill gives me hope. Now that Republicans are suddenly so interested in government takeovers, I am sure that everyone who was once against the Affordable Health Care Act is now in favor of it. That is great to hear. I am excited that the opinions on this board have changed. Here's to all of you for coming around to my side and supporting big government. Cheers!
  13. The question wouldn't be put on the ballot until the next general election in November 2012. You can find the text of the bill here: http://www.legis.nd.gov/assembly/62-2011/documents/11-3095-01000.pdf The info about the date is on line 16. Also, the constitutional change would not go into effect until January 1. 2015. This info is in section 6 at the end of the bill.
  14. Do you really need to start a new topic every time you want to spin your little message?
  15. Who cares if Kelly or Eliot didn't attend UND. A lot of good that degree did you. Their are many other great colleges and universities in this country outside of your narrow spectrum.
  16. So what makes him a buffoon. The fact that his is smart. The fact that he is Jewish. That his opinion is different from yours. Please provide some examples instead of just name calling. I've known Eliot for a long time and his commitment to public service, the community of Grand Forks, and the University of North Dakota is something that can't be rivaled by too many people.
  17. At least he can spell, and has a grasp of the English language. Your anti-intellectual rants are quite amusing considering the source.
  18. I'm sorry, but you are wrong. The constitution gives the SBHE full authority over the state's higher ed institutions. The legislature provides the money, that's it. They have no control over what it is used for. The decision to retire the nickname is fully protected by the SBHE's constitutional authority. It's a distinct and unique separation of powers that creates essentially a fourth branch of government in the SBHE. Article 8, Section 6 of the North Dakota State Constitution 1. A board of higher education, to be officially known as the state board of higher education, is hereby created for the control and administration of the following state educational institutions, to wit: a. The state university and school of mines, at Grand Forks, with their substations. 6.b. The said state board of higher education shall have full authority over the institutions under its control with the right, among its other powers, to prescribe, limit, or modify the courses offered at the several institutions. In furtherance of its powers, the state board of higher education shall have the power to delegate to its employees details of the administration of the institutions under its control. The said state board of higher education shall have full authority to organize or reorganize within constitutional and statutory limitations, the work of each institution under its control, and do each and everything necessary and proper for the efficient and economic administration of said state educational institutions.
  19. Here you go professor, It wasn't to hard to find. Article 8, Section 6 of the North Dakota State Constitution 1. 20. Again, you choose to ignore the the Constitutional argument in his claim. That is very telling of the type of ignorance being shown on this board. Take off your blinders and read the constitution.
  21. Here are Elliot Glassheim's remark's during the floor debate. They ring very true.
  22. Censorship is fun, isn't it.
  23. Great, thank you. Back to the question that I raised. Here are some quotes from Wayne Stenehjem that were included in a GF Herald article a month ago: The North Dakota Constitution includes a provision that says the State Board of Higher Education shall have full authority over the institutions under its control. The authority they have on this question. . . is rather extensive. So thats going to be a real obstacle to overcome in legislation." I am committed to the nickname. But Im even more committed to the Constitution. I just swore an oath to uphold it. I guess many of these state legislators must have missed their swearing in.
