  1. But NDSU talked up their D1 opponents (Ball State, Minnesota, Central Michigan) as if they were powerhouse football factories. Lame.

    Not at all.

We expected to beat the Gophers last year. In 2006, we talked them up because they went to 6 straight bowl games. That was a decent Gophers team.

Ball State was not high profile. But it was the first time we went head to head with a D1-A school with 80 some scholorships. It was a measuring stick and proof we could win. Not a great team but still an important win in the history of a transitioning team.

Central Michigan, well, they did win the MAC 2 years in a row, almost beat Purdue in a bowl game, and have a QB that is being mentioned as a possible Heisman Candidate. It was an impressive win. (granted it wasn't against LSU but still impressive)

2008 Wyoming - We expect to win.

2009 Iowa State - We expect to win.

I think it's cool you guys are playing Texas Tech. No, we're not jealous at all. Is it a high profile game? Not big time but it's a big deal for the Sioux. It's your first ever game vs a school with 80 scholorships. Now if you were playing Nebraska or Oklahoma... then you'll get us all jealous!

We expect to be playing Big Ten schools down the road.

  2. Maybe he'll resurface in the green and gold. :D

Don't think so... even if he did it would be as the 4th stringer behind Roehl, Paschall, and DJ McNorton. He'd be fighting it out with Horner. Maybe some time on special teams. :D sorry had to say it

I do agree he got off easy considering he pulled a knife on someone.

  3. UND and USD right now are stronger than NDSU, SDSU, and UNC were five years ago. Try a new spin.

You can't compare UND and USD now to NDSU, UNC, and SDSU from 5 years ago because the NCC was much weaker. D2 football has taken serious steps backwards. There is no way to prove or disprove your statement unless they play and they haven't.

5 years ago, Northern Colorado and UND were the #1 and #2 teams. NDSU and SDSU were clearly #3 and #4. USD was pittiful and easily #5.

Just like I said, all of the teams played each other extremely tough except for USD. Even when NDSU had their wost season in history, they lost 3 close games to UND, USD, an SDSU.

The point I was trying to make earlier is the NCC was a kick ass conference back then and the most recent version was weak.

Ironically enough, UNC had the best record but has been a complete flop in D1-AA football since moving to the Big Sky.

    NORTHERN COLORADO

2002 - 10-1 - lost in quarter finals of D2 playoffs (beat UND, NDSU, USD only loss at Montana)

2003 - 9-2 - finished the season ranked #19 in first year of D1-AA football

    http://uncbears.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/s...otbl-sched.html

    NORTH DAKOTA STATE

2002 - 2-8 (Babich last season, lost to UND by 6, USD in 4OT, and SDSU by 5)

2003 - 8-3 (Bohls first season, last in D2 beat SDSU, USD, Montana, and lost to UND in OT)

    SOUTH DAKOTA STATE

2002 - 6-4 (beat NDSU, USD, lost to UNC and UND)

2003 - 7-4 (beat USD, lost to NDSU an UND)

    SOUTH DAKOTA

2002 - 3-8 (lost to UNC, SDSU, UND, beat NDSU in 4OT at home)

2003 - 6-6 (lost to NDSU, SDSU, UND)

    http://www.usdcoyotes.com/sports/football/review.asp

    NORTH DAKOTA

2002 - 6-5 (lost to UNC, beat NDSU, SDSU, USD)

2003 - 9-1 (went undefeated in conference, playoffs, beat SDSU by 1 point and NDSU in OT)

  4. Don't you just love how the NCC and the Great West are the greatest thing since sliced bread when NDSU is a part of them, but then they become "weak and watered down" upon the AC's departure? Poly and Davis were strong, now they're weak. Do you honestly believe the crap you post, Gabe?

I shouldn't have called the Great West weak. I meant to say it was weaker than when NDSU, SDSU, and UNC formed it 5 years ago. Davis and Poly are both very good teams. Especially in California. And yes, when you take 2 teams that were ranked and replace them with 2 transitional teams, it's watering it down. That doesn't even take into account Northern Colorado, who was very good and only recently struggled.

I never called the Great West the greatest thing since sliced bread. In fact I called it a convenient schedule arrangement at best. I know you hate NDSU, probably as much as I hate UND, but along with UNC and SDSU , NDSU was a big part of the NCC and Great West.

You could even go as far to say they were the driving force since they were the best team. Nobody came close to NDSU's 8 National Championships except for Northern Colorado's 3 and UND's 1. Let me ask you this... how many National Championships has the NCC won since NDSU, SDSU, and UNC left for greener pastures?

UND and UNO have made the playoffs every year knowing each other were the teams to beat. Hell they were more concerned with teams like Grand Valley State because it was a lock they were going to the playoffs. You couldn't do that in the old days. NDSU, UND, and UNC were incredible. USD, SDSU, and UNO were very good as well and could have won most other leagues. St Cloud, Mankato, and Augustana had their moments too. The team that won the conference usually won the National Championship.

Your clearly stuck in the 30's if you refer to NDSU as AC. You must be a crusty old guy! Man they say the memory is one of the first things to go. :silly:

  5. Using SDSU and NDSU both as examples, it almost seems as if playing a I-AA schedule is not as tough as the old NCC schedule used to be. Not that those teams played the toughest I-AA opponents in the first few years of their transition, but their won/lost records actually improved from where they had been while playing D2 schedules just a couple of years earlier. Weird.

Comparing the NCC in the last few years to the old NCC with NDSU, SDSU, and Northern Colorado is a not fair. It's a watered down version.

The NCC of recent years had 2 great teams... UND and UNO. The other 7 teams are extremely average. Augustana, Western Washington, Duluth, St Cloud, Mankato, Central Washington, and South Dakota are easy.

Comparing the NCC schedule to NDSU's recent schedule is silly...

Are you saying the NCC schedule is tougher than NDSU's schedule against Minnesota, Western Michigan, Cal Davis, Cal Poly, SDSU, Sam Houston, and Western Illinois. THose are 7 tough games. Then you got the 4 easy ones in SUU, Mississippi Valley, Illinois State, and Stephen F Austin.

UND had 1 tough game against UNO and 7 other easy conference games. Throw in the cake games against Humboldt and Southern Utah and that's 9 easy games.

Then we go to the Gateway schedule next year...

You could say that the UND/NDSU schedule the 1st year in transition is arguably a step down from the NCC. Although NDSU had UNC and SDSU follow them into D1-AA. UND only has a weak SD team and a really weak Great West.

Man those old NCC days were tough!

  6. UND's schedule is what it is. The home schedule is on the weak side and the road schedule is decent. As has already been said, UND tried to put together a tough schedule. I don't think NDSU did us any favors by doing as well as they did with their transition. They demonstrated that a mediocre DII team can move up and play at the next level quite successfully with equal resources. UND on the other hand has been one of the top DII teams for the last several years. The established teams in FCS are all quite aware that a game with UND with increased resources would be anything but a given this next year. You can even use SDSU as an example as well since their D11 program wasn't much to talk about prior to their transition. They goy some good games early on and beat some of the established FCS teams.

NDSU a mediore D2 team? Your either 1) an idiot 2) just trying to get a rise out me (i guess its working) 3) have a short memory

Now if you want to say UND was better the last 5 years before we went D1, I'll agree since you won 4 out of the last 5. But I wouldn't say substantilly better since all 4 losses were by 1 score or less. Both teams were really good.

NDSU has 8 Championships my friend. You make it sound like we were horrible up until we left. We made the playoffs in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000. We narrowly missed the playoffs in 2001 and had our only losing record in my lifetime in 2002. Babich was fired and 2003 was the last season in the NCC and we managed to beat Montana and lost 2 conference road games in OT. Hardly a mediocre team that left D2.

In all fairness, UND played in a solid but watered down version of the NCC and haven't won a Championship since the 2 of the best teams left in Northern Colorado and NDSU. It's easier to dominate an auto bid conference when you eliminate 2 teams that had 11 Championships between the 2 of them and replace them with weak teams.

Either way... UND will do fine in the transition but like NDSU, will have a tough time getting home games. It sucks but if you can gut it out it will get better. But like NDSU, nobody wants to play a team that is great and never loses at home.

  7. If you'd like an example of wag the dog BS from an administrator look no further than this. As many as three different schools would have to re-arrange their schedules to get the dates for an NDSU- Wisconsin football game to line up. Gene's just setting up an excuse to tell the Bi-son faithful when he brings in Concordia St. Paul or Arkansas- Monticello for their final non-conference game next year.

Maybe in the Great West Days. The Gateway has 5 teams that finished the year ranked so there are plenty of good home games to go around.

  8. Well I'm very happy with the class! For a first year of D1 recruiting class I'd say it's surpassed my expectations!

I'm especially pleased in how we beefed up our OL, DL, and LBs.

Of the group do you think there will be anyone who doesn't redshirt? Maybe rosario will follow in kuper's footsteps?

I love this class and I would love to see how it stacks up to NDSU's 1st year of D1 recruiting class. Anyone know how to get ahold of that list?

I think we will be able to run the ball proficiently next year and make a run at a GWFC championship!

Pretty good. It produced our best passing QB in NDSU history, a current member of the New York GIants, 3 NFL hopefuls, 3 starting offensive lineman, and a starting cornerback.

Craig Dahl, S, 6-3, 206, Mankato East (NEW YORK GIANTS)

Mike Dragosavich, WR, 6-6, 200, Oak Lawn (JUST PLAYED IN THE SENIOR BOWL. NFL LOCK)

Joe Mays, LB, 6-0, 230, Chicago (NFL FREE AGENT HOPEFUL)

Steve Walker, QB, 6-1, 195, Lockport (HE'S OK)

Justin Frick, DE, 6-4, 255, Yankton (SIGNED NFL CONTRACT WITH TAMPA BAY BUCS)

Tyler Lekang, OL, 6-3, 270, New Brighton (STARTING LG)

Nate Safe, OL, 6-4, 280, Cannon Falls (STARTING LT)

David Earl, QB/DB, 6-0, 180, Milwaukee (STARTING CB)

Jerrod Wagner, OL, 6-5, 290, Waukesha (PART TIME STARTER)

John Majeski, S, 6-0, 180, Hastings (BIG PLAY RECEIVER AND KICKOFF RETURNER)

  9. There you go thinking again!

I'll quit thinking and accept this as a fact. The NDSU basketball show along with the UND Football SHow is bigger then Monday Night Football. Say that with a straight face 3 times in a row.

  10. Lennon show is the top rated college television program in the region.

Those numbers are strange. I have a tough time believing more people watched the Bison Basketball Show than watched Monday Night Football, which narrowly beat NDSU Football. I have a tough time believing the Lennon show had more viewers than NFL football on CBS at 3 pm, NBC Sunday Night Football, and ESPN's Monday Night Football. No matter how you look at it, NDSU, UND, and NFL Football are huge in this town. Apparently Bison Baskeball is bigger than I thought. I don't buy it.

    or

    http://www.gobison.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SP...mp;ATCLID=75644

These would be comparisons. TAMUK is the worst team on the schedule as of now.

Maybe if you talk about the road schedule but the HOME schedule is PITIFUL!

Texas AM Kingsville, a bad D2 team, is arguably the worst team on the home schedule but there are some pretty bad teams. How about winless Southern Utah? How about the St Cloud State out of the NSIC? THey

were 1-7 in the NCC last year. The only game that will be competitive is South Dakota.

I tell you this.... I don't miss the schedule during the transition becaue we had some horrible games too. Crookston does have an opening... tempting huh?

  12. If (or when :  ) this retractable roof really happens, could you imagine the reaction in certain quarters? There would be so many bricks sh*t by NDSU fans that they could appropriately brick their BSA.

Yeah you could pack 5,000 people into a stadium that holds 30,000. :LOL! That would look like the Metrodome during a high school game. Either way it's pretty funny that you really think it's going to happen. Start by getting a confernce. Then start selling out the dinky shed. Then try to book a home game against a team that is not D2, not non scholorship, and has a winning record.

  13. That is really interesting he would do that. If any Bison posters have any info on how it went down or why, I would love to know.

Maybe he found out UND is not really building a retractable roof stadium! ???

  14. Are you going to have the taxpayers pay for that also??? NDSU can't raise enough money to pay for anything on their own. i.e Fargo Dome, Newman, new Dome expansion. Just let the state and the city pay it for us. NDSU loses $16,000 for every football game they put on TV this fall. I hope you can buy your way to the "First Yellow State Playoff game in FargoDome history." It has only been 18 years since you hosted one. Of course we have 7 more.

How was the Alerus Center financed? State Universities that are owned by the state typically get money from the state. Not a foreign concept calling it a state university... not a private one! NDSU raised 15 million for the BB arena already and have a renovation plan in place if they dont do the dome addition, which is surplus and alread approved. NDSU pays for the tv games with advertising dollars. Of course it takes money to make money and it's obvioulsy working since NDSU has more than 1,000 students than UND. You make it sound like UND is some dynasty. By the time UND is eligibable for the playoffs it will have been nearly 13 years since the last Championship. Our last championship was 17 years ago.

  15. I'm a little confused. Why did we close the Bison thread? We need a civil war game (South Dakota does not count). Why are we scared to debate the Bison fans over a game? That's the fun of a civil war game. I don't mean any disrespect to Fargo or their fans, but its fun to debate it. It's not personal. A Civil War game would be the healthiest thing for the program. I have an email from Dale Lennon that says there is a standing offer to play NDSU (this was about two months ago) and that they were working on it. So for someone to say we won't play for years doesn't know anything more than anyone else. If the fans demand it, then it might just happen. If we're scare to debate the Bison fans, then I'm scared we'll just hand over our nickname, give up the Goofer series, stop arguing with Goofball and Badger fans, and roll over and die. Football will never work if we're scared of our rivals. Would Michigan fans be scared to say something about Ohio State? Doubtful.

The game doesn't count right now for the Bison so there is no reason for them to play UND. And why on earth would they come play in Grand Forks? The last game was in Grand Forks. Maybe down the road we play again but we have more to play for than you right now. We have the playoffs. You guys have pride and that's it.

  16. Is UND building a retractable stadium?

No and it's not going to happen in our lifetime. With some luck maybe by 2040. It's UND propaganda trying to convince the public UND is bigger than they really are. They want to take focus off the fact they have dwindling enrollment and draw 5,000 fans for playoff games. :silly:

  17. A message board poster on D2football.com is reporting that UND will host Texas A&M-Kingsville on 8/28/08. TAMUK is historically a strong program, but went just 3-8 this year.

    link

Texas AM Kingsville is a really bad D2 team... "This will be the Javs' ninth game in a domed stadium and the first since a 52-7 loss to North Dakota State in the Fargodome in 2000."

  18. Is someone jealous......

I don't think he's jealous since we all know the stadium won't be built until, oh lets say 2060 at the soonest. Maybe his grand kids can play in it. It was probably a misquote and I doubt the coaches are telling players there is a new retractable roof stadium being built because they will be extremely disapointed when they see the tin shed.

You guys h ave a good recruiting class. One much larger than ours since we only graduated 11. I can't speak for Dan but I'm n ot really jealous of the players since NDSU has landed 3 recruits on the Kare 11 All Metro team. These are the best of the best in Minnesota. We've also got 2 of the top 15 linebackers in Wisconsin.

    http://www.kare11.com/sports/prep/2007/200...ro_offense.aspx

  19. Found it!!! The last two playoff games NDSU hosted(they did keep records back then) had attendances of 4839 and 6230. That sure sounds a lot like our Winona games. And of course those figures are ones back when NDSU fabricated their attendance figures. They probably only had between 2 and 3 thousand people there. Once again they probably shouldn't be pointing fingers. It always comes around to bite you.

Where did you find that information? Do you have a link?

NDSU could have nearly 10,000 season ticket holders next year so I guarantee you they will draw more than 5,000 for the Playoffs. Every home game will be sold out. Actually, when UND was playing Winona in the playoffs... NDSU was in South Dakota and we brought 7,000 fans with us. Maybe more. Times have changed.

So I would anticipate a sold out dome in the playoffs. We play inside now so the cold isn't an excuse. What's UND's excuse?

  20. gabe:

Before you award yourself the "Dick Tracy Investigator of the Week" decoder ring, please go back to the post that started this thread and then follow the link to the McFeely blog that started this conversation.

He discloses where he got the information from. He discloses (and disclaimers) who owns what and which runs where.

I'll even give you the first link: http://forum.siouxsports.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=302087

Just because is discloses the fact he works for the Forum doesn't change it. He has an agenda. Clearly. It's like calling someone ugly and saying, but don't take any offense.

  21. The numbers are being manipulated by someone who works for the Forum and is not being objective. Gee, think there is some animosity that NDSU is using the competitors for games now?

When you go back last year when the Bison show was in the same slot and UND at 11 it was...

    Ages 25-54 group.

    NDSU Bohl 1.2

    UND Lennon .8

Has it changed that much in a year?

I found out that the ratings McFeely is using includes WDAY in Fargo and WDAY in Grand Forks! THe Bohl show only includes Fargo. Sunday night has way more viewers than Sunday morning.

    So this begs the question...

Is there any value in the coaches show? The Bison are on the rise. THe Bison sold out every home game except for SUU who was 0-11 and theys till drew 15,000 for that game. Every Bison home game, except SUU, was on TV. They have taken the program to a higher level. You can have the coaches show! I'll take what we got.

The coach show is obviosly not effective.

I just realized I'm not acting sanely. McFooly better write a column about me!

Besides you can watch every Bohl show online and who doesn't tivo shows these days? You can watch it on the web. He has 2 radio shows too.

Are you telling me 3 times as mnay people watch the coaches show than go to a playoff game? Yeah the Sioux drew 5K for the playoffs.

  22. will Bohl make 200g next year?

Go ahead and laugh at Bohl when he made twice what Lennon made at UND and he still has a package worth around 200K with a pubic statement from the AD that he wants to make him one of the 3 highest in the FCS.

You are a real homer if you can lose your head coach (and key assistants) and turn it into a postive. The bottom line is we still have our head coach while you guys have to start over from scratch.
