  1. Here's the UND way of handling it. Downplay the severity of it and make it appear like your so swift and hard. Spin it into an NDSU vs UND thing.

Then when 5 class a misdemeanors occur, dont report it and pretend like you handled it. Talk about some good PR people. You get to claim you handled it proactively while your lapdog media ignores it on command.

  2. We wanted him last year but have since gotten players who are as good and Adams is already a year behind the learning curve. Not denying we didn't want him but we moved on and filled our roster with great players on the oline. We dont have scholarships left with 13 verbals and 6 seniors, offering a full ride doesn't even seem realistic. Hope we get him but its a numbers game. Too many olineman and if we offer a full ride well likely lose a player of need. Cant get everyone. Sounds like you guys want Bison fans to bow down to you. I guess you need another moral victory

  3. Excuses are already starting to come from Bison fans why they wouldn't want the Adams kid from Minot. If UND signs him they will say they wouldn't want him for waterboy even. Of course if NDSU does land him he will be one of their top area recruits this year and rub it right in UND's face. It is the same pattern on every recruit.

Excuses? Our recruiting class is basically done. 6 seniors and 13 really good players signed

You tell me if Adams has a chance to play at NDSU

Our starting LG and RT are redshirt freshman and will likely start for 3 more years. Then you have Jack Plankers, Zack Ziemer, Zack Johnson, Hahn, Austin Kuhert, and Landon Lechler to fill the other 3 spots. (Almost all are freshman) Backup LT/RT Jason Pomerenke is only a sophmore . Thats 7 guys to fill 3 spots.

That doesn't include the senior starters next year Tyler Gimmestad or All American LT BillyTurner. Our former starting center Jessi Hinz will get 2 more years due to injury. And then you have experienced guys like Knack and Schueller who are backups now. Were deep

Adams is good player but UND makes sense. I wish we had gotten Adams last year. But we have way too many quality guys for the next 4 years

  4. San Diego State ended up winning 7 in a row at the end of the season. UND scored more points than anyone else against San Diego State. San Diego State is going to a bowl game. If only we would of had a better defense.

To compare a team in week 2 to week 11 makes no football sense.Teams change dramatically and find their identity as a season goes along. Different everything.

  5. You guys need a coaching makeover. The offense is good. Im actually impressed. Too bad your qb is a senior. The defense lacks talent, passion, and plays soft. Its clear by the reaction of fans that you dont like the scheme either. Not sure how to turn the defense. Maybe an influx of jucos? That has its negatives too.

  6. Yet the Big Sky is the conference NDSU wanted to be in and was turned down...

That is really not a fair statement. When NDSU and SDSU were "turned down" the Big Sky only needed to add 1 team. They chose Northern Colorado based on geography. When the Montana / Montana State FBS rumors started, they added 5 teams to get the right numbers. Had NDSU and SDSU been available, they would have been accepted. Only in your elitist mind would they would put USD, UND, and SUU athletics in a much better category than NDSU and SDSU! Very similar programs. And don't forget South Dakota turned down the Big Sky! (after going winless in Missouri Valley play, they probably wish they had accepted! They haven't even played the toughest part of their schedule yet!)

Ironically it worked out great for NDSU and SDSU. We now play in the #1 rated FCS conference. The entire stadium is sold out for the year. Have great regional rivals. All of our games are televised with 4 simulcast on ESPN3. We sent nearly 6,000 fans to a USD road game. Won the National Championship. Times are good.

  7. I like when they said losing 4 consecutive to the Sioux and other "off field" factors contributed to Rocky's downfall. I guess they got sick of being down and once again "off field" factors don't mean much, as long as you win.

I didnt realize that no Bison coach survived 3 losses in a row to UND. I think Don Morton said that

  8. Great job. As I Bison fan I admit it makes me respect what both teams did. I loved the basketball bit even more. We will never see anything like that again. I kind of agree that Rocky sounded like a dick. Hes just really competitive and hated to lose. Normally I cant stand Roger Thomas but I have to admit he came across as very likeable for the first time ever . Stirred up some great memories

  9. Wow this game has lit the fire squad at BVille they are asking for Saul's head for losses to UND and MSUM. Damn.

no just a couple of trolls . und is good at home. of course we hate to lose but there is no shame losing a close game on the road. obviously both teams suck on the road. our season is still ok. you guys are actually pretty good. it was a big game for both but bigger for you guys the coach called it the biggest win in a decade

  10. I recognize that by playing a competitive game vs Fresno is a good accomplishment but never in modern history has a team dropped 6 spots by virtue of a bye. I think the fact that the 4 Dakota schools were all in the Great West is the root of the confusion.

  11. The bill was not going to pass until your hockey coach got involved and got everyone fired up about this "ingenious " plan. Blame him. Blame all the people who bought into it without having the foresight to see that the NCAA doesn't care. Its not a conspiracy. Its not Douple. Its not Carlson. He was not the only one who supported the bill. It takes more than 1 vote to pass. And all the facts are irrelevant because the Big Sky is going to follow the wishes of the NCAA. All of those facts are before all of this happened.

  12. If you look at our Big 10 neighbors to the East, one could argue that hockey is also the most "popular" sport at Minnesota. Definitely has the most passionate fan base there. No, they don't outdraw attendance at Gopher football games. But, with the apathy surrounding the Gopher football program & even basketball over the past years, I'd say Minnesota Men's Hockey has a much more loyal, passionate, dedicated fan base over any other sport on their campus.

As for ND, the Bisen fans will argue about their football attendance, etc. A decent opponent at the beginning of the season will get them 18-19,000 in the stands. However their attendance seems to drop as the season goes on. UND home hockey games always seem to be at or near capacity. But, it's tough to compare 18-20 home hockey games vs. 5-6 home football games a year, apples to oranges I guess. The state of ND could be considered a toss up. UND may have a slight edge in that it's the only hockey program to cheer for. But midwest region or nationwide, Sioux hockey has much larger following.

If you're talking history, tradition & success... Sioux hockey hands down. ;)

You can't use attendance as a basis for popularity. If you do than the Timberwolves are more popular than the Vikings because they out drew them. Of course they play 41 home games and the Vikings play 8. Of course nobody cares about the Wolves and the Vikings are more popular than anyone. Heck the Lynx drew 130,000 people last year with a bad team. Give them some home playoff games and a good season and suddenly they outdraw Sioux hockey... does that mean they are bigger than Sioux hockey? Obviously not.

Let's just say that Sioux hockey is very popular and leave it at that.

  13. Too much attention on the South Dakota schools. I imagine UND and NDSU will schedule some games together. Do we miss St. Cloud and Mankato? I don't. Likewise we won't miss SDSU and USD. Big Sky is a new chapter full of potential.

Strange statement considering 90% of UND fans called the Yotes your top rival.

Bad comparision. St Cloud and Mankato didn't even have the maximum D2 scholarship levels of 36. St Cloud only had something like 20 scholarships and they were pretty much weak teams. St Cloud is talking about dropping football altogether.

On the other hand, SDSU is actually committed and has 63 full fledges scholarships. Same goes with the Yotes. They are not the same teams they were back in the D2 days.

  14. wow...I'm blown away a 1-14 school could beat SUCH an established DIVISION ONE POWER (in their own minds!)

THIS is crazy! I'm thinking VACATION IS NEEDED!!!???:D

In all fairness, NDSU has only added 1 baseball scholarship since the D2 days and the 10 day layoff couldn't help. The team isn't much better than 7 years ago and we always suck anyway.

  15. Well, after 2 games, we were well ahead of what I had projected. After 3 games, we are about where I thought we would be at 1-2. Looks like we got our Texas Tech sized whooping this week.

It will be great to have 3 home games in a row, I will be there cheering on this team.

Bison fan here. I actually thought you guys would be better FASTER because you have risen to the occasion when playing FBS teams and the TT game was pretty decent, given the competition. You guys are finding out the big difference between D2 and D1 is the higher level of competition EVERY week. In the D2 days, the non conference games would have been against some crap team. Now the crap teams like SFA are actually pretty good. The occassional upset will happen but a D1 schedule wears on a teams depth. Wait until the end of the year when injuries pile up. So far you guys are 3-5 vs FBS teams but most of the losses came late last year. When you guys build depth you should be pretty good. We're only 7-6 going back to last year i fyou pull out the Iowa State and Wyoming game.

  16. I could not agree more. UMD would have had to play @ UND, @ USD and @ Central Wash this year not to mention Omaha. I would bet alot of money they would have at a minimum 3 losses in conference and would not have even made the playoffs. But it was great to see them win it.

The NCC was so good in it's hey day that the team that made the playoffs was going to go to the championship. IMO, actually getting to the playoffs was as big of an accomplishment because conference play was insane. UMD couldn't get past UND. How about the NCC version with NDSU and Northern Colorado's 11 combined championships. They would have been lucky to finish .500 back then.

  17. The Sioux are facing a lot of new opponents this season (though the Javelinas aren't such), so I thought it would be fun to have a pregame scouting thread for each where we could collect links and articles.

Javs see promise in new players - Caller-Times

Javelinas' Linebacker Craves A Winning Year - KRISTV.com

Trying Times - Players look to make a mark during scrimmage Caller-Times

I expect this line to generate indignant hate mail to the Caller-Times from Bison fans:

Not because it says UND is I-A, but because it says I-A instead of BCS :silly:

I thought it was a misprint that your playing a D2 team. If this game is not over by half time, your in for a long season because these guys are terrible. They are not only a D2 team but a bad D2 team.

  18. While I disagree that the Big 10 as a whole is overrated (on the contrary, I think it's underrated)... I agree that the Gophers stunk big-time last year. SCSU probably could have defeated them. I still can't believe how badly the Gophers regressed in a span of just a couple of years. Amazing. Too bad the Bison couldn't have played them when Maroney was still there, that would have been an epic beatdown.

Now if you really think SCSU could have beaten Minnesota your being a complete jack ass. We all know the Gophers sucked and we expected to win the game. It's funny though because in 2006, we more than competed with the Mason coached team that had the same players (on the maroney team) who went to 4 consecutive bowl games. Ironically, they lost to Texas Tech 44-41 in a bowl game that cost Mason his job.

  19. Hey Sioux fans! I was just curious to know if any of you are planning on going to the NDSU/SIU game on 10-4. I just read on Bisonville that the game (which happens to also be homecoming) is already just about sold out. I'm wondering if this is due to a bunch of Sioux fans pre-ordering tickets to come cheer for Lennon or against us? Also is there any truth to the rumor of bitterness against Lennon for the way he handled his departure?? He seemed to be a first class guy, and flat out great coach and that would be sad!!

    P.S. I don't intend for this to devolve into a Bison/Sioux smackfest!!!!

    GOOD LUCK IN 2008!!!

The game is almost sold out because 1) We sell most games out now 2) It's homecoming 3) It's the first ever home conference game 4) It's against a great team in Southern Illinois 5) The Lennon just ads another interesting storyline.

With or without Lennon this game sells out a month early.

Just to chime in on the other talk...

Higher end D1-AA teams can routinely beat lower end D1-A teams. Top tier D2 teams can compete with top tier D1-AA teams. (early in the year only because they don't have depth with half the scholarships. NDSU would have lost to Montana if it was week 10. UND would have lost to UNI in week 10) Nobody can compete with top 10 D1-A teams. Once in a blue moon you have a team like Appalachian State that pulls the upset but we have to remember they were ranked in the D1-A polls last year so we know they are good. Heck, they won the Championship again. Of course the real championship was winning in the Big House.

Importance of winning? Winning a National Championship in D1-AA football is still a huge deal just like it was in D2. Except D1-AA gets more exposure but still not a ton. A D1-AA team upsetting a big time school is bigger and would feel like a Championship. Making the NCAA BB tournament and winning a game gets bigger exposure. Winning 2 games is huge. Conference Championships at our level mean nothing on a national level.
