No disrespect to Carter Murphy but I don't feel like a 5'6 prospect is a high-end prospect atm.

Nice get, 4 star. I’ve heard he’s really really athletic. These local kids are the ones we can’t miss.

This kid played one year as a freshie @ South and then a AAA team last year in Chicago, is that correct?

Good height..what caused his uptake as a solid recruit, a good summer + time spent in the USA hockey Select Festival?  I’m just generally curious. Nice to see a Fargo, ND on the team in the upcoming years.

Those of us that live in Fargo aren't Minnesotans and there a reason we don't live across the river.  Let's hope the bolded part isn't the case. The general do good law abiding public in Fargo has had enough with what has transpired by some over the past few weeks.

Crossing the river on 52nd isn't too far from my house in south Fargo to get to MN. Once you're in Moorhead, it's amazing how quickly things start to look scummy...from beater vehicles on the road to what demographics I witness come/came into the Casey's convenience store.

There are more US born first rounders now than ever, at least higher end first rounders. Canada has always dominated the first round. I may have missed the point here however.

You take a 1st rounder when you can, any team would and yes the '16 team had BB in 2016 and won a Natty... BUT if you review memory lane and UND's history in 1st rounders: Sanderson, Pinto, Bernard-Docker, Nelson, Oshie, Zajac, Stafford, Lee, Finley etc. = No national title :-(

I do believe UND needs to get more commits out of USNDPT team though, 100%

Had a kid here who left for Sioux Falls Power 4 years ago when he was a freshman in high school. Came back his senior year and of course wasn’t eligible to play because he left so he watched instead of played his senior year. Now he’s off to basic training to become a marine. He said he would of stayed here had he had to do it over

    Out west, what school?

It will be interesting to see who UND picks as their extra coach.   Would have been nice to get Nick Oliver, but there are plenty of nice options out there.  Does Jason Ulmer get a chance with all the work he has done with UND as a volunteer, or do they go with someone for recruiting?

Zach Parise on line 1 would be a good option to start getting/attracting large recruits in the MSP & surrounding area. Mold Zpar into a future head coach. This would be a huge marketing boost for the program and school.

Oh sure ok. Great numbers (albeit in an iffy league), captain too. I just listened to his post championship game interview…very well spoken kid. I’d be perfectly fine taking a kid like that to fill a depth role. But, if he’s thinking an Ivy that obviously makes sense too.

on twitter or do you have a link? I'd like to listen to it to hear his IQ.

Yeah MN is super loaded.  They probably won't lose a game all year.

Knies was one of the few players that didn’t play like Gopher hockey. He’s gone. Then on the backend, Jackson LaCombe was the one D-man who didn’t play like a Gopher. He’s gone too.

They’ll be a top 5 team, no question. Their year to win it was 2022 and they choked.

  9. Who needs to have the biggest off-season transition/impact? I’ll start.

Zmolek opportunity window is all yours given fully recovered/healthy. Pedal to the metal off-season.

    - Kunz continue doing what he was doing on/off the ice during the 2nd half of last years season. Maybe try new diet to lean out a bit/sprints working with Poolman to continue to enhance speed. Luke Johnson changed his diet in pro, suggest Kunz doing the same to see if it helps/makes a difference. Kunz has skill.

    - McLaughlin strength and offseason shooting. No reason why this kid shouldn’t have double-digits in goals next year, let alone hitting that metric in 1st half of season. Kid set the rookie record for most pipes hit by a freshman

    - Johannes - go workout with Cole Smith in Brainerd Minnesota all offseason.  NCHC conference is much harder than the conferences you came from. I’d say your season depends on what you earn next year  Should have all the tools to make an impact. Get it done

  10. What are your thoughts if the NCHC adds Arizona St. then the future UNLV team?

Gives the NCHC student athletes an opportunity to play down south and get some warmer weather a few series/weeke per year to get out of the midwest winter grind/depression.

Could be a swing in recruiting “a bit” to get some young upcoming talent down south to the NCHC teams/conference.

    I say do it!

A lot of his goals was because of shaugabays passing. But again, decent get. He’ll probably play a his senior year then a year of juniors. I’m curious if he’ll go NTDP next year, typically Warroad kids don’t.

Meh - Kid is a scorer, you can’t teach that and is faster.

He’ll get stronger and faster too. I’ll argue 100% he has more upside at the next levels than Shauabay. Fun debate.

Time will tell. We shall see

  12.

Off-season time killer, predictions for next year. (Someone else can do the defensive core :-) )

    Gaber -

    • 2022 stats: 20 Goals 17 assists -- 37 points
    • 2023 prediction - 24 Goals 22 assists -- 46 points
    • Note - Overall should improve uptake in goals & points one would assume for 2023- '24 season

    McLaughlin -

    • 2022 stats: 2 Goals 13 assists -- 15 points
    • 2023 prediction - 14 Goals 20 assists -- 34 points
    • If he doesn't hit a million pipes again in the '23-'24 season, will easily be a double digit goal scorer, no question. Imagine where last year's team would have been had Owen scored more than 2 goals on the season ffs?!

    Blake -

    • 2022 stats: 16 Goals 26 assists -- 42 points
    • 2023 prediction - 25 Goals 32 assists -- 57 points
    • Your '23-'24 Hobey (Blaker) Baker winner or a top 3 candidate 100%

    James -

    • 2022 stats: 8 Goals 8 assists -- 16 points
    • 2023 prediction - 15 Goals 18 assists -- 33 points
    • Will have a huge sophomore year, will get stronger this off-season and that will make him even more explosive and faster - crazy! Could exceed projected point total.

    Berg -

    • 2022 stats: 10 Goals 24 assists -- 24 points
    • 2023 prediction - 14 Goals 22 assists -- 36 points
    • Have Cameron scoring a few more goals but have lower assists total, his point outcome "could" exceed this prediction. All depends on his role, line mates and chemistry for next year.

    Perron -

    • 2022 (USHL) stats: 22 Goals 47 assists -- 69 points
    • 2023 prediction - 13 Goals 22 assists -- 35 points
    • Listed at 5'9 ~ 165 lb, it'll take him a bit to transition to the college level/game. Everything I've heard, he's more of a set up guy but can certainly bury the puck in the back of the net too. How good will this freshman be? TBD.
      • Note best "freshie forwards in the last decade" Pinto, Brock, Jackson B. Is Jayden in this company? TBD...

    Kunz -

    • 2022 stats: 5 Goals 0 assists -- 5 points
    • 2023 prediction - 11 Goals 13 assists -- 24 points
    • Have to think Kunz takes a huge jump in development and continues to work on foot speed this offseason and rounding out other areas of his game. Should be on PP unit #1 or #2 and be the focal point being the big body in front of the net on the PP 100%. No way he doesn't Surpass his point total of 5 from last year...

    Schmaltz -

    • 2022 stats: 5 Goals 7 assists -- 12 points
    • 2023 prediction - 10 Goals 14 assists -- 24 points
    • Jake is a ? mark for next year depending on role and what line & players are on his line. Needs a jump in his development with consistent scoring and strength. Skill is there...work (workout) with your cousin, Nick this off-season as Nick finally got the message to shoot more in the NHL and he's become more of an offense threat and a great puck retreater with his stick lifts etc. Jake needs to carbon copy this 100%.

    Emerson -

    • 2022 (USHL) stats: 30 Goals 33 assists -- 69 points
    • 2023 prediction - 8 Goals 10 assists -- 18 points
    • Haven't watched/seen enough of his game. Everything I hear is that he goes in the paint and goes to the net to get his goals. If he has more speed than Jackson Kuntz, there's no reason to assume he'll have more production output as a freshman comparing Emerson and Kunz USHL stats.

    Jamernik -

    • 2022 stats: 3 Goals 11 assists -- 14 points
    • 2023 prediction - 7 Goals 13 assists -- 20 points
    • Should have better production next year. Needs to find that scoring/production touch. Has the skill & speed, just isn't a lethal scorer at all but serves other roles. We shall see.

    Strinden -

    • 2022 stats: 3 Goals 6 assists -- 9 points
    • 2023 prediction - 9 Goals 15 assists -- 24 points
    • Has the skill and rounded game. Depending what opportunity given line and teammates, could certainly exceed 9 goals next year in my opinion.

    Ness -

    • 2022 stats: 5 Goals 1 assists -- 6 points
    • 2023 prediction - 7 Goals 5 assists -- 12 points

    Johannes -

    • 2023 prediction - 13 Goals 16 assists -- 29 points
    • 2023 prediction - Honestly, TBD, depends what line, role, who he is playing with.
