  1. The refs on Friday were not strong. PERIOD, but I hate when we as Sioux fans use it as an excuse. This weekend the team against us was superior in all phases.

    PERIOD.

I don't blame the referee's for either loss, although I believe they did a horrible job.

Friday night the penalties early in the second period did take us out of our game. But that doesn't mean we should have given up.

Saturday we got beat because IMO their goaltender was better than ours. Not the refs fault.

Maine's a very good team and our youth definiately showed, but I wouldn't agree that they were superior in every way.

  2. I don't buy it that the extra ref had anything to do with the puck hitting the officials.

The 2nd ref never enters the offensive zone. When the puck is moving up ice the official should be moving into position deep in the other offensive zone.

The only change is that you do have a ref ahead of the play, instead of behind. That should be a good thing because you shouldn't have an official make a goal/no goal call from the neutral zone.

In the case this weekend it was more about cluelessness and laziness (mostly the former) not about too many officials.

  3. Don Adam and that Albers guy didn't see this video.

I'd recommend they review the part where they explain what to call when a goalie takes a dive.

I think they could also learn something from the icing enforcement.

I didn't see Vandervelde's CFB that well, but my impression from the corner of my eye was that that was also covered in this video as a 2 minute.

Plus the linemen need to review the dropping the puck routine. It's not about you getting attention, drop the puck.

  4. that second period was men against boys - their forecheck was awesome - The puck bounced their way longer than I have ever seen it happen & the refs stunk up the place

Goes to show a balanced team of veterans that are good (not Great) can win the big ones

we will get better - it was a good lesson to learn from

it could have been a 5-5 tie - we could have easily scored 3in the 1st & better against teams like this - while we had some momentum

I don't want to make an argument, but I thought it was more about how poorly we played rather than how good they played.

  5. Who's going to be the big hitter on this team? I don't think Finley is going to throw the big checks like Smaby and Greene did. He's big and strong and he won't get pushed around but throwing the big open ice hit is a skill. That's ok, he's got to play the game he can be successful with.

  6. I was standing in the upper bowl student section and then watching the replay and it looked to me like he had bent his right leg wrong when going down and landed on it wrong. I could be wrong about it though.

The way he layed their though looked like he had got coldcocked. When he got up he never flexed his legs or anything.

    I think he was faking.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Last night, Maine looked as good as Wisconsin did when the Badgers swept the Sioux at home early last season. Let's not forget that UND is a young team with a different makeup from last season. Maine is a team with a quite a few juniors and seniors. That difference showed Friday night.

I think it was more on how we played than on how they played. We can beat these guys. At this point of the season last year Wisonsin was just a better team. Not at the end of the season mind you.

  7. My suitemate saw Toews last night out to eat after the game. When I asked her about his arm she looked at me confused and said this his arm appeared fine but he was limping on his left (?) leg...

    We're messin' with their minds.

  8. Regardless of the reffing, looked to me like the defense needs an interjection of Brad Berry. The running around is ridiculous.

They've got to get their act together. I'm as critical of the officiating as they come, but bad officiating isn't an excuse to play like that. They'll be better tonight.

  9. I think your right. Last night was not a good night by the refs. I am sure the league will hear about it. I think one could make the argument that Adam should or won't be doing our games again and neither will Albers. The Refs missed a lot of calls last night, or just mostly called UND for penalties, for instance playing the puck with a high stick that play led to a goal. the CFB on I believe it was Bina that was blatant, the one sided calling of the game was horrible, I think 29 penalties is way too many to stomach as a fan. I also though Maine was a dirty team.

Every game that Adam does (at least when we're involved) turns into an ugly game. My theory is that his inconsistency in officiating frustrates the players and get it going. Plus the real dirtiness started right in front of him (Radke's near altercation). He didn't call the first cheap shot (the check was just hockey) by the Maine player.

I didn't expect the animosity between the two teams.

  10. BTW: Does anyone have an idea why their goalie layed down in front of the net for 3 minutes in the first period? They even showed a replay and there was nothing there.

Last time they played here (2001) their captain (#4 defensemen) drew a major spearing penalty from David Hale that was called by the Linesman (Ludwig?). He laid on the ice for five minutes and then skated the second shift of the power play. Blais said that all it amounted to was the Maine player holding Hale's stick.

  11. Got back from the game a little bit ago. I agree with you guys. I thought for sure that Lammy wouldn't be playing after the second tonight, but what do I know. The team didn't really show up tonight, lots of roughing penalties that didn't need to happen. Hopefully, Hak can get them going for tomorrow. It was interesting to see Finley get knocked flat at one point. Let's move on to tomorrow and get a win though.

On a side note, the cowbell guy was back in action tonight.

I say you put Lammy back in and see how he performs, but what the heck do I know?

I hate the cowbell guy! Everytime he goes at it I'm afraid Randall Flagg is around the corner. It must be the cowbell guy's fault.

  12. not a good thread to come home to check out. not gona go back through the whole thing so just wondering if we have any DQ's for tomorrow night? thanks, sounds like the game got a bit chippy. we will take it to them tomorrow night and get this split.

It didn't sound like Vandervelde got one, but even so I don't expect him to play Saturday.

  13. Comments about the officiating. Has there ever been a game with Adam referring where it didn't turn into an ugly game? That no way excuses the team for being taken out of their game in the 2nd period.

I was at the game and since the WCHA has so much confidence in their officials they made a rule never to show a penalty on the jumbo-tron. So.

Toew's three penalties. The first one he DID unnecessarily bump the goalie so, whatever. However he argued about the other two penalties. His hooking call near the goal, he seemed to claim his stick was held, was it? He also didn't seem to like the interference.

I caught the Vandervelde hit out of the corner of my eye. At the time I thought he didn't hit him from behind but did charge and get his elbow up. Just curious, didn't make a difference in the game.

There were several ghost penalties behind the play. There was one right at the time that Watkins made a big check in the corner (first period) Any ideas if that was a good one? (I thought Watkins came out flying in the first period, but he dropped off when the team lost it in the 2nd)

But, it's just one game and there just kids. They'll get better.
