  1. The Gophers are penalized just as much as any other team in the league. Against Duluth the Dogs had 5 or 6 more power plays for the weekend than the Gophers. Wooger is right about the officials being questionable, they have been inconsistent for years.

You don't have to agree with me or not but this is my opinion Goon, I mean Loser.

Skippy you may have a hard time believing it but the number of penalties is not an indication of bias.

It's really a matter of how you call the game.

Calling bias (and of course there is such a thing as bias) is a tough thing to do. It's very easy as a fan to wonder why they called this holding on your team when they had three or four opportunities to call it on the other team. The problem is are you seeing it objectively, or through the eyes of a fan.

The larger problem is that the level of officiating is so low. You can't tell if a bad call is bias or is it just a crappy call. The fix is to insist that the professionals in the league rise to the level of the amateurs.

If every bad call was in favor of the Gophers you could certainly prove that bias. On the other hand if only 5 out of 7 bad calls were called in favor of the Gophs you can't prove anything.

Certainly the level of officiating is so low that nobody has any confidence in that call being the right call. Its easy to go from there to thinking that there is bias.

  2. No. I predict we won't see much of Grieco when we play CC and UW. After that, though, we may see a little swapping here and there.

I think its up to Lammy. If he plays well (good to great) you're right. Otherwise Greico very well get a shot.

  3. I agree with that. Apparently also, Maine is human.

When we played them I didnt think Maine was all that good. I thought we just needed to gel as a team.

Now when Wisconsin beat us this time last year I thought they were a very good team at the start of the year.

  4. it is simple, there is no logic. the polls are what they are, meaningless until the pairwise rankings come out towards the last half of the year......

The state of college hockey today seems to rely on young talent. Polls this time of the year just can't factor in how these Freshman and Sophmores are going to develop by the end of the year.

UND has the potential to be a #3 (or #1) of course. But we've got a long way to go to get there. Apparently the other teams are in the same boat.

  5. If UAA were playing somewhere and it was on my TV at 4:30 in the morning I'd be watching it. I'm surprised (or am I?) to see a Sioux fan indicating that the "late" local time for these games might be a problem for them.

It's not so much a problem just that I fall asleep before the game is over. I'd like to blame my job for making me wake up early but I wouldn't lie to you guys.

Have no fear though the Sioux can do it even if I fade off in the second period.

  6. I wonder if the reason the NCAA didn't petition to move this case up to the federal courts was to keep the ruling limited.

Of course if UND wins they'll have a hard time enforcing their mandate elsewhere, but they're dumb enough to try I think.

  7. We can talk all we want and I think we should. The sad thing is that we'll probably lose our voices! :D

Actually the league officials should be the ones talking. Maybe if they released their reports I'd believe that they actually give a darn about improving the officiating. Right now I really think they don't.

  8. All Alaska Anchorage homes games are shown live on C-Band (big ol dish) digital on AMC7 (137W). So as long as you can see 137W, have a DVB box and a C-Band dish you can see them. They are also on the web (I watched parts of the UAA/Mankato game on the web).

Yesterday on the football game Sweeney said the next FSSN game is the bouncey ball on 11/21, so it wont be on there.

me...I'll be bringing my 6 foot dish out in front of the garage to watch the game :D

I'd say the bigger problem is staying up to watch/listen to the games. Any chance we can convince them to play their games in the afternoon?

Any info on the Sioux Injury situation?

  9. I'm in the camp that believes the officials as a whole are incompetent, not biased. I watched both UM/SCSU games this weekend and even the Wooger was taking shots at them by predicting who the next penalty would be called on based on the situation. He was right more often than not! It's really a shame we even have to discuss this.

I think the officiating would improve if we actually did talk about it. Here we are in a amatuer game and we're not allowed to talk about the people who are actually being paid for their involvment.

  10. Take last night, even Doug Woog thought the call that incidentally went in favor of Minnesota was bad.

It's true the officials are pretty poor, but I do think the refs favor Wisconsin and Minnesota a bit. I've watched the Gopher games where they don't play the Sioux and they've got the calls their way.

On the other hand I'm sure the Gopher fans can point out plenty of bad calls that went against them. So it's hard to separate out any hypothetical bias from the noise of bad officiating.

One example, there's no way that Jay Kleven would have been fired if he made a call like that for Minnesota. By the way the Saturday call he was punished was correct. He called perhaps a bad penalty on Friday. From what I hear Friday Kleven called a legitimate slash on Minnesota, but the Gopher only slashed the Sioux player because he was getting his stick held.

  11. For all practical purposes Donny had him banished from the league, or at least it made i difficult for him. They would have never done that for Hakstol. I personlly think Nate Freeman is worse that than Kleven was.

Pre-Donny. Wooger got him fired. I have a tape of the game and it was the right call. Mike Schmitt was looking the wrong way when the hit happened so the AR did what he was supposed to do. It was a charge/boarding no doubt about it.

  12. Looks like Goepfert is still struggling. He gave up 3 last Friday. 4 (or three I didn't see a replay of the disallowed goal) on Saturday (although Mason only allowed two to be counted). Five last night (although they would have taken great saves to hold that down).

Can we count on six tonight.

  13. Wasn't Woog talking about something similar at the end of the Friday night game when Goligoski took that 5 minute major? Someone was telling me how Woog was saying something about Goli should sit out the next night as well since he wasn't even going to be serving a full five minutes because of the end of the game.

I would agree that that last minute stuff should count against the next game. Otherwise you're encouraging stuff at the end of the game.

Case in point would be the incident at the end of the overtime Saturday. If the guy Duncan (goon) went after threw a punch to end the game he should sit the next game. If he didn't then Duncan should have.

That'd end that stuff right away.
