  1. Aff, you did not read what I typed. I never said UND and NDSU get along. I stated the reason why NDSU would support UND, becuase of the pressure from the rest of the state. I never said SDSU would oppose USD. I said they are doing nothing, for or against. Just nothing. They really don't care what USD does. We are a nonfactor to them and don't exist, like we've been disowned. NDSU does support USD, from what I heard. Of course the other schools pres's will need to vote on this, but having advocates like the conference commish and the infuence of a president (NDSU) who pushes for it doesn't hurt.
  2. This article is more on than you think. And don't be suprised if the Bison are the ones helping to facilitate USD & UND getting into the MidCon, rather than any backdoor deals going on. Here is what I have heard around Vermillion and the USD Community: NDSU has never had an issue with USD, in fact, they like and support us, and our Athl Depts get along pretty well. The NDSU administration also will support UND getting in. They know that the people of the state of ND won't stand very long for the two schools not competing against each other once UND hits D1. And any "revenge" actions by NDSU towards UND would be bad PR (people around the state won't like it too well, rivals is one thing, being in a position of power and hurting another state institution, another). The fans won't like it, but the fans don't call the shots and the administration will do what is necessary to avoid any problems at the state level. SDSU does not like USD, we won't get any cooperation from them, they will not oppose our MidCon conference bid, but they won't support it either. Much bad blood there. Not really a problem since we have the support of NDSU in this area, which, most will admit, carries more weight than the Jacks. The MidCon is excited about the possibility of having the 4 Dakota schools anchor their conference for many years to come. Stop the revolvong door stuff. They noticed how long we all existed in the same conference together and like that we have built in rivalries to bring to the conference. I pointed out that NDSU probably likes us so much because we were 4-16 over the last 20 years against them in football . Again, this is just what I have heard and do not have any evidence to confirm this. Personally, I tend to believe it. There are just two many positives to the 4 Dakotas hooking up in the same conference again. Those positives outway all the ugly stuff that has gone on over the past few years.
  3. Well, I guess the NC$$ may have to give up it's main addiction, $$$$$. Since the US Mint and the Federal Reserve are institutions who are "hostile and abusive" towards Native Americans by using depictions of Native Americans on their product, currency. The NC$$ should have no other choice than to quit using products produced by this entity. Link, I am sure you have seen this before. http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/buffal...x.cfm?flash=yes

Right now, with the Great West possibly losing the Su's, I don't think beggars can be choosers. they need numbers, plain and simple. The Sioux have already proved they can beat one of the top teams in the top conference in 1AA (yes , I know it is now Playoff Division, 1AA is easier) and the Yotes have been pretty successful of late, they would be foolish to turn away our schools even if the SU's were still in that conference. Remember, there are other schools than the SU's in that conference that have a stake. How does this look to those other schools,"Yes, we know we are planning to bolt and leave you high and dry, but adding these schools might hurt us, we need to block these additions." If I was the other schools I would be PO'd at the SU's. We can't be choosers when it comes to conference affiliation, either, but the Great West is on a tough spot as well. I think it is pretty much a given we'll be playing there after next season. I know some on here still love the Big Sky idea, but which conference is going to be more stable and more powerful in the long run, the Big Sky, with the Montanas toying with the 1A idea, or the MidCon, with the 4 Dakota schools and all our tradition and rivalries solidifying that conference for the future. I know NDSU has dreams of being in the Valley, but don't you think the Mid Con with 10 -15 years of stability could run down and compete evenly with those schools given a solid core of motivated institutions? Look at the tops of the Valley, UNI and Creighton. Used to be conference members with us. Heck, Creighton is on a good run, but as soon as they lose Altman they'll be back to 3000-4000 per game attendance like they were a few years ago. They even believe that on the Omaha talk radio stations. The word down there is if Omaha wants a permanent player in D1 athletics they need to free up UNO from the handcuffs that UNL has them in and allow them to flourish and move up to D1. It's like a freaking game of chess. We have to make the right moves now to position ourselves for the future and I don't see UND, with a school based on the eastern side of the state, isolating itself from the Midwest by heading west, to a less populated area, away from Minn, and the rest of the midwest as being a good move. I mean, you can draw athletes out of Minn, geographically not that different. You think you can get recruits to leave Denver, and the mountains to come to the cold plains of NoDak? that's a tougher sell. I don't even think the Big Sky is even a thought in anybody's minds at USD. But if they did come into play, we'd bite. All that being said, the MidCon is no guarantee, that is why we should come at them hard. But hey, we have no choice but to dance with whoever will take us. End of my free form dialog.

  7. First request, can we end this thread and get our own. Augie isn't going anywhere and we are moving on up. A few statements in response to some of what I have read here. I think we may be joined at the hip in this deal. Our AD's talk, they are most surely forming a coalition to help each other through the transition to D1. The Dakota Dome is a nice football facility, compared to the Fargo Dome or Alerus (never been there but I'll take your word) maybe not as nice, but still more than adequate. Oh yeah, and we OWN our building as well, not the city. All will admit we need a new basketball (and Hockey!!!) venue. Most Yote fans are in agreement that you should be able to keep the Sioux name. Instead of putting all that money up for the building, Ralph should have just wrote a check straight to the NC$$ and paid them off. Works for Florida State. From down here, I would say to just give up, it's not even about the name for the NC$$ anymore, it's about them being the bully and getting there way. Conform or suffer the consequences. They will never let this go. You should all just come up with another cool name and start a new tradition. I have a few suggestions, but don't want to get banned by the PC police. Finally, me and the Chief (Sitting Bull) were kicking back having a few beers after we ripped that trophy from you back in '95 (35-0, boy did we party after that). He wasn't upset at all about the whole traveling trophy thing. I don't know who got rid of him, Iheard he is now residing in GF. We wish we could bring him back too, however, I think our two Flagship Institutions should come up with something else, based in our history. It won't be phony, like the "Dakota Marker" that the land grants have, because we have an actual history of a rivalry.
  8. You guys totally missed the tongue in cheek nature of my post. I wasn't slamming UND at all. I was pointing out that UND is having a report done by the same place that did SDSU's. If I have to hear one more time about that stupid report from an SDSU person I am going to scream. "where's your Carr report? We have followed this report to the letter. Blah, blah, blah." like it is a fricking Bible. We have to hear it from SDSU fan just like you have your ongoing war with the Bison. Just showing some solidarity, brothers!
  9. Wow. UND is going to get the most prestigious "Carr Report" that SDSU fans always throw in our face. Hey, when you guys are done with your copy could you let us folks down here in Coyote Country borrow it. Now that USD moving up is happening those folks at SDSU refuse to share theirs. That's right. USD doesn't have a plan we are fools. We'll never make it. Truth: Those years of pumping out doctors, lawyers, and other professionals is paying off as fundraising efforts are going well and looks like we'll have plenty of cash to fund the move and upgrade facilities. Hockey anybody? 2010 will be here before you know it. Heard it here first. SDSU fan will disagree with anyything out Verm, but what do you expect. Sioux fans, you know what I mean. That OTHER school that is now in a hissy because they won't be able to claim that "We're D1" title to much longer. Good luck on your endeavors. See you in the Al in a couple of weeks where we get our revenge.
  10. Fellingham said that of the past five institutions ICAC had consulted for, the firm had recommended that one, North Carolina Central, should move up to Division I. He said the firm recommended to three other schools, which he did not name, that they stay in their present divisions. ICAC recommended to another school that they move down a division. I guess that this statement could also silence the critics who say that Pres Abbot brought in this consulting firm to "rubber stamp" USD going D1. Heard this man speak on 590 AM out of Omaha yesterday, his firm is stocked with academic types and are not in the business of advising every school to move up.
  11. At least UND has a budget, according to SDSU fans USD doesn't have a real athletic budget. I guess we just pool together our pocket change to pay the bus driver before we go to road games. Why have I heard two completely different stories regarding proposed conferences for our grand institutions. The SU's fans are adiment that the MidCon is closed for expansion, yet I hear other news from that conference that further expansion into the Dakotas interests them. Wonder what that is all about?
  12. What can I say? Great minds think alike.
  13. This sort of response from Coyote fans comes from the crap that spews out of Brookings regularly and has less to do with NDSU and more to do with SDSU. SDSU people always reference the past and what was said when they moved on but forget that this is an ever changing landscape. Jack fans are just getting nervous about the USD move up because it means increased competition for them and decreased visibility. The move up by USD is just part of a comprehensive plan for the U. The plan is to increase enrollment to over 11,000 in the next 5 years while maintaining high enrollment standards (ACT greater than 24 or top 50% of class). the greatest thing that USD can do to increase enrollment is to retain more of its freshman class. There are too many freshman that drop out after their 1st year and the U is taking positive steps to reverse this trend. Now, the cynic will look at this and say that they are going to increase enrollment to fund athletics, that's lunacy and everyone knows it. Truth is this plan has been in motion for some time with the building/improvement/upgrades to many of the academic facilities as well as the DDome. An increase in size only makes sense when one looks at what is happening in SD. It is becoming a more urban state with the growth of Sioux Falls and SE SD, the state needs the university to produce more professionals in the business, medical, teaching and law sectors. I have also heard the argument that SD does not produce enough young kids to fill this growth. Unlike SDSU, many of the U's students come from neighboring states and is not heavily dependant on SD's student population. Is this good for SD to be educating other state's kids? Yes, evidenced that I and many, many people I know came from out of state to go to school at USD and have remained in SD years after our graduation because of the growing opportunities SE SD and SF have to offer. With the U in growth mode, it only makes sense that a visible D1 athletic program will help in creating the image of a university that is on the rise.
