Charlie Burggraf coached Gopher women hockey as an assistant and was HC at Bethel (D3) for a long time. Both men's and women's I believe. Was slated to coach in PWHL but stepped aside before it started.
He coached me in Little League and was awesome. He LOVED antagonizing over-enagaged opposing coaches; got a ton of laughs out of his team, our parents and the umps.
He wasn’t just “slated” to be a head coach in the PWHL, he WAS the head coach of PWHL Minnesota until a week before the inaugural puck drop. He dropped out on December 27th with PWHL Minnesota’s first game on January 3rd.

I did not know that about Klee.
My daughter was at the game yesterday too and she said the atmosphere was electric. I was at one game this year. I enjoyed it and it’s nice seeing the league let them be more physical than say the college gameIt’s not that the league “allows” it. It’s that the players wanted it and was part of the negotiations between the players association and the league when the whole thing started. The players very much wanted the increased physicality. It definitely makes it more fun and intense to watch.

Waiting on the story from Schloss to come out with any UND connections to both teams (just a joke as I respect him and what he provides us.}
Well, here ya go:
Susanna Tapani played for the Sioux for a year, I think, and was a member of the Frost last year for about 10 games before getting traded to the Boston Fleet.
Goalie Kristen Campbell plays for the Toronto Sceptres and played for the Sioux when the team was shut down.
Michelle Karvinen played for the Sioux from 2010 to 2014 and she has declared eligible for this upcoming draft on June 24th.
Those are the only UND connections in the PWHL that I know of.

Man, that was a fun game to be at!
This whole series was stressful. The Frost hosted 10 periods of hockey over two games (3OT game on Saturday, single OT yesterday). Over 11,000 fans at The X yesterday for game 4. Finally got to clinch the cup at home after a goalie interference call took back what we thought was the cup-winning goal last year.
It's so cool to be there when a team wins a championship. I've watched it on TV a few times but never been there in person.
And for those who didn't realize it, future Hawk David Klee is the son of Frost head coach Ken Klee.

Mason Kraft to UND? I know nothing but sounds like something’s going down in Mankato.
I would not be upset about this.

Head contact is a penalty regardless of whether it’s goalie interference or not. So “in the crease” shouldn’t be an issue here if there’s actual head contact.

Am I the only one who thinks that’s referring to a player as “that kid” is a bit disrespectful and a sign of being bad at your job?

Some of these plays really remind me of the 01-02 season.

Who’s in net this period?

They felt "sorry" (in Canadian) for Canada and gave the US a penalty
Yeah, I guess I didn’t know unrelated penalties like those could be “coincidentals”, so I assumed it would lead to 4-on-4 (if the goalie was in net).
I thought only matching roughing penalties, or the like, would keep teams 5-on-5.
-
So confused why this is 6-on-5 instead of 5-on-4.

Three assists for James tonight.

As long as its a 5
That’s not what happened though. They called a minor on the ice. Then reviewed and got rid of the penalty. It was the right call but I didn’t know they could that.

I didn’t know they could overturn a penalty call that was made on the ice.

Was that even a penalty?
Hard to tell from the only angle they showed us. On first look it seemed like he was falling down before contact was made.

Not as likely anymore.

Well, I decided I was going to pull the trigger and sign up for another month of Midco Sports Plus to watch tonight's game, but their website is apparently broken and it won't let me re-subscribe. This sucks.
Update: I was able to add the subscription though the Apple TV app.
-
The only streaming option for this is the same Midco Sports Plus plan as the MSU series, right? It’s the $25/month plan, but this time for only one game

I thought that was Jordan. Surprised they didn't comment about it on the telecast.

As long as there's no kicking motion, that's perfectly fine.

The PWHL
in Women's Hockey
Posted
That's incorrect.
Each team will lose exactly four players through a combination of the exclusive signing window and the expansion draft. Each team initially protects three players. As soon as they lose two players (which Minnesota now has) they get to protect a fourth (which they did, Britta Curl-Salemme). There is no 5th protected player.
