  1. I'm guessing the 1970 GF Enrollment figures are shewed a little by the GFAFB population at the time....? Wonder how many kids we had enrolled from there.....?
  2. Hope Terry was his favorite Uncle.... http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/121815
  3. I agree the "Nickel" is Iconic in the State of North Dakota and should be used more for events.....
  4. Hockey: Sitting in Frenchy's watching the 3rd Place (Natl) game where local boy Dean Barsness scores game winner in OT 6-5 against Michigan State 1984.....So many National Titles and Frozen Fours, Hrkac, Johnson, Panzers, Zack.....Just remember the local kid doing good for some reason... Basketball: Men's was back to back wins over Metro State and Anchorage Alaska in the 1989-90 Regional Playoffs at Hsylop, place was packed and electric.....those years the Boys had like a 36 game home win streak, lost one game then ran off another 29 in a row at Home....unbelievable. Womens: 1996-97 Womens National Championship Game held at the Hyslop and on ESPN TV, Sioux Ladies win 1st National Title...Awesome! Ladies have really been a joy to watch the last 20 years.... Football: Tough between two.....Tearing down the Goal posts at Memorial Field when we finally beat the NDSU Bison 22-21 in 1993,was (lmao) when RT says geezz Eddy (Schultz) look out here comes the goal posts while doing the post game interview on the field loaded with Students, Players and Fans....Other one of course would be Florance, Alabama watching Kelby, Luke, Jed and the boys come from behind to Beat Grand Valley State in 2001 and win UND 1st Football National Title.... Baseball: Buck, Zig, Cazzy and all the fellas going to the DII College World Series in 1983 in Tampa, Florida, what a improbable run Wrestling: Back in the Mad Dog- Brad Kerr days when the Sioux beat the Bison in a Duel Meet, Hennesey was refereeing and UND won the match on a unsportsmanlike conduct penality point awarded at the end of the heavyweight match.....Loud as I have ever heard Hyslop with only 250 people in attendance.... Really hard to write just one, as you write you think of so many more National Title Games, Unbelievable Comebacks, Outstanding performances, Great Crowds with Unbelievable atomshpheres.....Sioux Fan since 1979.....Lots of Memories
  5. I really miss that place.... and the patrons.
  6. The expansion of the Sioux-per Swing Satellite golf tourney was the building of relationships by Rob Bollinger, for what ever reason this has seem to lose it's luster without the guidance of Bollinger. Rob believed that harvesting and maintaining good relationships with alumni and friends of the programs was the best way to keep the lines of support and future giving open. A different administration and different ideas has lead us to less Tournaments, and to the idea, that these Tourneys need to make maximum amount of profits now. So now it is not so much about building relationships and harvesting opportunities of future support, but more about where and when we can make money now. I liked the old way better....
  7. A good friend of mine Dr Pete O. (used to work at UND, now a Assoc. AD at Utah) also works championships for the NCAA. When they do pre-site evaluations they require all Alcohol Advertising to be covered or removed. Interesting how their stance on Hostile and Abusive images is sporadic and selective at best....?
  8. Ouch....! Congrats, the last National Title goes to NDSU.
  9. Back on subject: When the rivalary is renewed, my guess is we will play for a "New" trophy. The Nickel will be retired with the nickname and logo.....
  10. According to GoBison.com......2002 NCAA Indoor Track tied for 10th.....?
  11. I'm just guessing but there are probably 30 National Titles in the last 20 years between UND and NDSU, I'm wondering what the next 20 years will bring....
  12. SDSU is not in North Dakota last I checked.....? What National Title has NDSU won since 2001.....? The only other National Title in North Dakota that I am aware of since 2001 is Dickinson State Track (NAIA).....?
  13. The Nickel, Sitting Bull and the last National Title won by any North Dakota School, (D2 or higher-UND Football 2001) all sit in the same Trophy case....In Grand Forks
  14. Back on Topic..... Does anyone have any insights to why this decision deadline was moved up.....? Since we are D1 and need as much support as possible, should we have no exhausted all possibilites, to keep supporters on board...? The Summit did not give us a deadline. Why now....? The Engelstad's seem concerned to, by the lack of conviction. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/118913/
  15. Even if the "Summit" becomes or resembles the Old NCC, we are light years away, (will never-imo) from ever competing for a National Title in any sport other than Football which plays in a lower D1 (D1AA) and Hockey. Like you said just one's perception of success.....?
  16. I understand this, my point was that with the D1 move, we had time to exhaust all options on this topic. Now because the New Administration is feeling pressure from somewhere, we have escalated the process and why...? UND would not be able to host a D1AA Football playoff game until 2012 if all the stars came in alignment perfectly anyway. For the record, I am not a staunch supporter of the Logo and Nickname. I am however a UND Sports enthusiast and support the Athletes and Coaches, I maybe in the minority (I will always continue to give and support), but by not exhausting all the available options till the end, the majority who want the Logo and Nickname could very well hinder the support UND needs. I agree, but what makes anyone think that if we could not be consistently competitive at the level we were at in D2, or in transition, that we will ever be able to be competitive at the D1 level...? In a conference (Summit) that is perhaps the worst D1 conference in America, no matter how much money we save on travel, most people only will support wining programs. I do not believe for a minute that ths "Summit" is where the future of UND Athletics lies. I guess our trophy cases were just too full where we were at.
  17. Obviously this is promoted by the wonderful world of welcome to D1 athletics. Such as in the past with other Presidents and Athletic Administration, we have somewhat temporary transplants making permanent decisions on the History and Legacy of UND. We have sold out for all the minor sports that will never, ever have a chance to compete on a National level anyway. other than the possible one and done NCAA tourney, we may or may not make every 7-10 years in WBB and MBB. Football and Hockey are by far the 2 most popular sports that will bring recognition to our University now probably known as only North Dakota.
  18. Could somebody explain to me what if any effect this will have on REA...? A privately owned facility on a land lease from University property...? this quote ... "UND is further directed to undertake actions consistent with the Settlement Agreement to protect its intellectual property rights in the 'Fighting Sioux' nickname and mark. UND is further directed to address the imagery at Ralph Engelstad Arena and other venues pursuant to the terms, conditions and timelines set forth in the Settlement Agreement." What exactly was the set forth Settlement Agreement....?
  19. Happy Birhday ......K-Dog...
  20. I was just told that Randall Herbst got the job....Good Luck to Randall
  21. Forgive me if this has already been posted or discussed. I have been told that the Standing Rock Reservation already had a referendum back in 1962 with a ceremony giving UND it's blessing on the use of the nickname. If this is true, wouldn't they have to have a like referendum to have this now overturned....? If this is the case, with the Spirit Lake voting and approving, UND may be in the clear to have the support they need. Please respond if my information is correct or incorrect...?
