  1. Grand Forks residents appear to be feeling a false sense of security in regards to the flooding. Isn't it a case where one breach south of town on the east side of the river, could esentially fill up the whole town again? A combination of an understating of the projected river level, like '97, coupled with a breach, could result in a 4 mile wide swatch of water that would be impossible to defend against.

Yes...I agree! I live on Belmont with the dike in my backyard and I'm getting damn nervous. It's well over the bike path and the river is close to the top of the "97" flood statue today. I'd post a picture I was sent but don't know how. Kevin Dean might / will be out of a job along with others because he's the one leading the "do not worry" charge. with all the good things we've done since 97. The Burke addition is currently fighting a very bad fight (similalr to Fargo's fight) and I bet they wish the would have been annexed into the city in 97. To bad new owners are battling the fight while the old owners who vetoed the annexation have moved on. GF should have a plan in motion if something goes wrong....which can happen. Good luck Oxbow if you live near the mess!

  2. Ya know... you can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar.

Was this your first ever interaction with that neighbor? I hope not, because you know what they say about first impressions.

Sorry, but I would have "told" him the same thing or just thrown the hose back to him. If honey catches bees what was her neighbor trying to catch by pumping HIS water to THEIR yard. And if this was the first impression at least it won't happen twice.

  3. So the question I have is who is the moron in this picture:

    Tuesday_March_24_2009_04_25_PM.JPG

Talk about a Darwin Award candidate.

HA!! I think I drove by when this idiot did this. Talk about a dumb! He was with another kid that was furtehr away talking to him.

  4. Wow DaveK. You should maybe know something about the game of hockey before you start saying ridiculous comments. But then again your from Fargo so I get it. Why dont we talk about how South was the favorite to win state and ended up taking 4th place. And how about South trashing the lockerroom after they lost to Red River in the semi-finals! It took the Ralph staff 6 hours to clean up and good for them that they are sending a bill to Fargo South..Classless

Please enlighten me......I didn'thear about this. Heard about EGF 5 years ago when they lost some meaningless game and took sticks and skates (kicking motion) to the toilets, sinks.

  5. And many of you on this board wonder why Schack had to beat the crap out of a couple Mavericks during the Gopher and Mankato series. I'm not saying Minnesota didn't throw any cheap shots, but I know that Mankato can cheap shot with the best.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I'll admit I was thinking F'in Gopher to take a cheap shot last weekend but after watching the crap they did this weekend I can understand why Schack did it. There won't be big suspensions from this weekend but there should be something. It must be how Jutting runs his teams.

  6. Speaking for myself only.....I love a Gopher loss!!! And I don't feel bad or think it makes Sioux fans look bad. It's part of being a fan.

Unfortunately I think we have as many Gopher posts here as they have Sioux posts at Bisonville. I would like to think that we as Sioux fans are better than that. Some of us are obviously better than that, but a handful of obsessed haters make the entire fanbase look bad. I swear there are a few people here who enjoy a Gophers loss more than they enjoy a Sioux victory. :D
  7. Siouxmama....Thanks for the advice!! I was able to get the tickets. For once I'm glad I pay to the Fighting Sioux Club or else I would have had to go another route.

This is just hearsay, but I was told from someone buying tickets for this game, that there were many available through tho box office. Have you checked with The Ralph box office?

I apologize if this is incorrect.

  8. I don't have the tickets yet. This might sound dumb but does the Ralph sell tickets for out of town games like St. Cloud?

  9. By "tier I" do you mean "high-end" talent? While the Sioux haven't recruited a Zach Parise or Jonathan Toews for a few years, I think you will be pleased with the quality of many of the incoming recruits over the next few years. Derek Forbort, currently an 11th grade defenseman at Duluth East High School, has the potential to be a first-round draft pick some day.

Yes..high end talend is what I meant. It's fun to watch the Zajac's, Oshie's, Stafford's, Toews, Parise plus the many defensemen along with the past Sioux. These were all high end people. It'll be exciting to see Mattson, Cichy, Kristo next year but of these I think only Kristo is top end. I could be wrong. The flip side is being loaded with top end talent and being all about me....not about the team. Next year should be great with our freshman class growing up and the new boys!!

  10. He'll be a good addition. Just wondering...why doesn't it seem like we land the tier I recruits? It's so much fun watching the past tier I guys on the NHL package even if they were two and done? Any ideas? Obviously a team needs a good mix of guys and it's worked good for us in the past....but we've also had tier I guys to balance it out too???

  11. No its not and I will compare the two if I want to the fact remains that Ziggy has proven he will get players that can make a big impact the Twins owner

will pick used, old beat up, washed up players that aren't worth a damn.

However...It seems to work for the Twins and not the Vikings. Most people I know cheer for the Twins and expect a close finish and possible post season but with the Vikings a person is afraid to cheer becasue you just know they'll screw it up and miss the playoffs. Plus it's always an excuse...we almost there, or a fumble or a bad mistake, dumb penalty...etc. I quit cheering for the Vikes long ago. Personally....I'd like to see Childress move on. He's made to many bad decisions as the coach but as Goon said "a win is a win and making the playoff is job security.

  12. How about an IHOP or other kind of 24 hour place? Having that right by the campus would probably bring in lots of money and it`d be great for the college kids too! Just a thought

Lots of things made it close as said above like hours, service, quality etc. A big issue was cost and the thought that went into the building. It was designed to be upper scale martini bar. Even before opening we wondered how that would work on campus. And then the cost of food vs. quality wasn't there. They wanted to be a north end Sanders and that isn't possible with the $$$ kids have to spend. Mom, dad, and student loans can only supply so much money to drink. Plus the building's cost was over $2 million and that's a huge amount of debt to service. Personally...I loved the place when the Sioux were out of town playing. It was great to bring the kids to and have a good adult fun time. I thought the food was good if you got it before you wanted to leave.

  13. But it works well in the NHL.....

And he seems to be making allot of money with the potential for making a ton of money. Much more than many of the nasayers on the lets bash Lee board.

  14. Absolutely! Now let's hope they don't !@$! down their leg against KC. Sweeping the White Sox was great, but it's not over yet.

I agree!!! What a game last night but it's not over. If we lose to KC the miracle comeback and great series is all for nothing.

  15. This is what makes Fighting Sioux fans the best fans in the country. Compared to some other fans, we have to work harder to watch our team play, whether it's the Grand Forks Sioux fan driving five hours to the Twin Cities for the Final Five or an NCAA regional, or the Twin Cities Sioux fan ordering a $400 satellite system to watch home games on television. Being a Sioux fan does not come as easy as being a fan of our favorite rival, but I think the extra effort makes the payoff more rewarding.

Very well said mksioux!!! We are the best traveling fans in all of hockey.....and I don't think a rival team could ague with that....but I'm sure they'll try

  16. There may have been multiple bids to host the regional BUT if Minnesota's bid was the highest that is usually what determines it. Also, was it the Xcel or University of Minnesota that put the bid in since the regional is at the Xcel, .

I've been reading this since it started and have to finally say I'm glad it's at the Xcel! Though I completely agree that it IS home ice for the Gophers it's also a great chance for us SIOUX fans to go and cheer our team since the NC$$ would most likely put us there. I think we would have more fans than all the other teams...just like Denver and the other spots as well! If by chance we don't get placed a the Xcel we can still wear our Sioux jersey's, watch good college hockey and cheer for ANOTHER Gopher loss!

  17. I heard Friday he was not even enrolled on campus let alone with the team anymore. As you said he wasn't very motivated in the classroom. You'd think he knew he was in college his freshman year and was told of the requirements while at Central. He's an amazing athlete that mat have regrets down the road. Hopefully teh CFL will still be in th works.

I think the fact they already gave away #4 speaks volumes about the possibility of his return. I've heard he isn't very committed towards "working toward a degree" too bad he probably had a future in at least the CFL.
  18. Oh man did I start to laugh when reading this. I loved wrestling when I was young.

Once, we went to a show in Crookston, Fosston or another small town to watch a show one night. It had the whole gang of Crusher (my favorite) Bruiser, Vachon, Bockwinkle, his manager, etc. About 10 -12 guys total. After the matches I wanted an autograph so my dad stood with me while we waited. Only one came out and right away went outside. So, my dad, followed him outside and said "Hey, could you sign this for my boy". It was the Crusher and he asked me how I was doin. I responded with "why didn't' you beat him up more? He said maybe next time? I then looked over and seen all the guys climbing into a large van together. I looked up at him and asked "Why are all of you guys getting in the same car" with a weird look on my face. He responded "The dirty bums needed a ride home cause they got beat up so bad and walked off".

That day was like yesterday....I think that hurt more than finding out who Santa Clause was.

You guys just made my day!! Thanks
