  1. Possibly posted, but I think channel 317 is showing the game Friday. Apologies if already posted.

Is that for midcontinent in GF? I was looking at it last night and that or 306 seemed to be showing college hockey? Like FSC and CBS C or :silly:?. On another note was running laps in the concourse at the Ralph last night while my kid was practicing and was booted by security. I told him I've did it all last year and he told me it's due to a change in policy after the fight last month. Like I tell my son.....every action has a reaction. Does anyone else find it odd no charges have been brought up against the Oslo guy? Ok...back to the Denver talk.....oh..and work.

  2. What the heck is the deal with Gopher fans putting Sioux fans into the hospital (or worse!), and in Grand Forks no less.

The maroon-clad ones are making it very clear who the backward, ignorant, uncivil, uncultured, violent hicks are.

May all of that ilk find that their cellmate is willing to trade them for half a pack of smokes.

It's not just Gopher fans in this deal. But wow, it goes to show when you make a bad decision that it could be detrimental. I think back to 5-7 years ago and going to the final five and our group was the one chirping to Gopher fans. Shoot, in the bars was worse. I'm sure allot of people know Jason and Friday since he's from Forks and Friday was not a good night....our thought and prayers go out to him.

But for anyone to blame Gopher fans for this is mistaken. This is clearly a bad decision that many will regret. This can and will happen to ever passionate fan base of sports. And then add alcohol.

  3. Why'd the theme music to the old TV show "Dragnet" just run in my head?

    ... bah, ba-dump-bump, ... bah, ba-dump-bump-baaaaaaaaaah ...

"The story you're about to hear is true, ... " ... we'd have changed the names to protect the innocent, but there aren't any. :(

I think he's about in incur a furious rath. This won't end for him. With all the attention this is creating the papers / investigators and people with to much time on their hands and anger towards him the dirt will keep piling up. This is like the Alerus discussion on another thread...it might not go away until all the rugs are swept clean and the dirt exposed. Serves him right! To much EGO there.

  4. FINALLY! The Curtain has been pulled away from "goon" to reveal he MIGHT be the biggest knee-jerk reactionary ever (luckily) elected to the GF city council...TERRY BIERKE!;) (seriously - I'd like to know because I had no idea a knuckledragger like that neanderthal could learn to type :) )

FYI GOON! - I've lived in GF for over 25 years. Came here as a UND student in the mid-80's and STAYED. (That says something in itself!) I've been a proud tax-paying homeowner in GF since 1998 - and HAPPILY payed my property taxes because I know WHAT i'm getting for my money! (Yes - TAX MONEY I'm willing to PAY for certain things)...such as....

--The Flood of '97! I was here during the flood...IT SUCKED! I fully supported the Flood Control Project we finally have in place - even though - OUCH - it cost me MONEY?:D Well it left us with a protection that left us LAUGHING 11 years later while Fargo was sweating bullets trying to save their town last spring? (and they did it WITH GF'S help but that's another story) Seems like a good investment to me....

--The RALPH! (FREE to taxpayers because of the generosity of an Alum - nice for us!)

-- and the AL! An Indoor Football Facility that has propelled UND into the DI world where we would NEVER have been able to do it with just an outdoor stadium. As I've mentioned before....we payed through the nose for the crappy old Civic - I have no problem writing the difference in my property taxes for the difference for the Al..because it brings SO MUCH quality of life to GF! Concerts, trade shows, events, football games - everything! GF is WAY AHEAD of things with TWO great public facilities in a town of 50,000 people - Fargo barely makes money with the Fargobarn with 3X the metro population! The point is - we're pretty LUCKY facility-wise in little GF here IMO!! That's my entire point...

PS - MY homes value in GF has increased from the $80,000 we payed in 1998 to over $110,000 in 2009....don't know where you live buy maybe you should move to Prior Lake if you're "suffering" so much here...what's keeping you here? I just get so TIRED of the constant BITCHING ABOUT HOW BAD THINGS ARE HERE! If you don't like it....MOVE!!!!!

Wow...seems like a lot of hostility here.

Though I don't always agree with Goon's opinion the great thing is that we each get to have one. And on this subject I tend to agree with him more. Both good points but SiouxMeNow..a little less mudslingin. I do not agree that we needed two facilites of this size but it is what it is. I will say though that the Canad is a great addition and makes the Alerus a little better but I guess we help pay for the Canad Inn too. I better stop typing or I might even want to move. I'm already wondering why I live here when I have to coach my son's FB game tomorrow...October 10th...and it'll be 26 degree's at 9 am. As for property taxes my lake place which is far nicer than my home is alot less. but at least we have the greenway to enjoy and get some bang for our buck here. Go Sioux!!!

  5. I recently moved to WF (begrudgingly) and followed this closely. I went to one of the meetings put on by the school board and I am still in disbelief by the incompetence of the school board. Dr. Wallace, who is typically vilified, gave a great speech and did a great job at answering all questions. She convinced me something needed to be done, however, it became very apparent she did not agree with the school board's plan.

The president of the school board was a condescending moron. In response to a question about why all of the new schools have so much glass (inferring they may not be energy efficient) the president of the school board gave this drawn out narrative about how the old schools did not have much natural light which caused all kinds of problems including fights and depressed students. He stated that now the new schools do not have any fights and all of the kids get to school and immediately become happy because of all of the natural light.

This just paraphrased the drawn out idiotic narrative this guy gave. All I could think of was this movie scene -LINK

I've been watching this a little bit. Is the main reason WF doesn't want to merge with Fargo schools because it allows Fargo to swoop in and get the tax dollars from some 1970's agreement? Seems to be a good idea to try and merge from what I've read.

  6. Last summer and into the fall the price of steel skyrocketed, putting many construction projects on hold. Then the economy went in the toilet killing more projects. With the price of steel down and construction firms scratching for work (at least along the Gulf Coast), now would be the time to great pricing on new construction. Anyone heard what has been going on the proposed Practice Facility?

I haven't heard a word and I've got a good friend who's in the loop. Even though things have been good around here commercial projects are hard to find especially new ones. There's not much planned in regards to renovating buildings at the college which there's been 2-3 per year for awhile now. If people have money they're not spending it on new buildings...same as cars I assume. And material still sucks....common sense would say prices will go down but I kep gettign letters about cost increases including light gauge steel. How are things down south?

  7. cichy 2g, 2a in 6-0 win tonight as pointed out. cichy and kristo are gona turn some heads in grand forks and in the wcha !!

    !

We went to the game last night and Cichy is good.....really good! He'll be fun to watch next year. He has a heck of a shot and can make a pass when it doesn't appear to be there. As for the game....Lee let in 3 goals in the first 4 minutes and was pulled. 2 of the goals were terrible, just wasn't his night. Of course one could argue that the Force D-men could not move the Indiana team from the front of the net. They could have brought a camper with for how much they just camped out there. Was a fun night but a long drive home to Forks. Made me wonder what a crappy drive home after a Sioux game in the dead of winter for Fargo fans.

  8. Yes, he played on the 1st line at a traditional hockey school like Red River as an 8th grader. A lot of potential there!

Tons of potential! He was on the 1st line because Malm knew he would lose the kid going into the 9th grade as he would go to Central following his dads footsteps so he was buttering him up. GF has an open enrollment and if a kid is going to play varsity in 8th grade he HAS to play in his district which is Red River. The interesting part is he had a blast and they won state and nobody foresaw that. We'll see where he goes next year but my bet is Central. From what I hear he'll be USHL bound by 11th grade. Good thing is family is great...kids and parents are not head cases at all.

  9. different players overall and the nhl is different now as well. porter was last late draft pick who never signed with chicago and vv will sign the minute he ends next season. will he make it as a nhl regular? who knows but he will get a shot after a year or 2 in the AHL like pretty much every other young player not drafted top 15 and ready to make a impact right away in the nhl. porter will be a up and down player for now but he was one of their last cuts last training camp so thats good for him and he has had a solid ahl season. all it takes is the one chance.

Good point. Look at Bayda and how long he kept at it until the NHL called. VV will make it but just not the first year he signs unless he lights it up. I ran into one of boys at a camp this weekend and I asked if VV was coming back for sure and he said yes....huge piece right there.

  10. Twas a joke. I never predicted the Sioux to start like that either, which was the surprise.

Also, where'd all the love for LaPoint come from all of a sudden? His whole career here before he hurts his ankle no one said anything good about him. Now, it sounds like he was an All-American. I like LaPoint, but before he got hurt I recall being one of about 3 people to actually like his play.

Exactly! Where did the love come from? I seem to recall he was the heir apparent to Finley for the D whipping boy until he broke the leg. I hope VV come back and I think we'll be great next year with some solid recruits coming in. Hopefully they adjust to college as good as Gregoire!

  11. The different mentalities between GF and Fargo is really interesting. Fargo doesn't believe in the predictions and actually believes the numbers to be to high. GF used the predictions in 97 and ended up not having the dikes high enough. This year with our protection up here in greater GF I was really surprised at how many people believed the NWS was wrong and it would go higher than the predictions so they were all moving between the cities and staying in hotels.

one of the things that Fargo smartly did compared to EGF/GF was build contingency dikes well ahead of breaches. I don't remember those in the area until after breaches.

The thing about GF is their are to many peopel in charge and not once person to take chare. Back in "97" the people along Reeves and Belmont didn't want the dirt in their area's or affect the view of the course. In Fargo they will build the dikes and could care less what the higher end homes think. To me.....that is a huge difference and the main one. The mayor of Fargo is a take charge guy! And I've lived in GF most of my life.

  12. Uhmm ...

... let me think about that ...

    ... uhmm ...

    ... NO!

uhmmm....yes....to a point. I agree with HG...Chay hurts us when he rushes in to far and gets caught at or behind the net leaving Finley hanging out to dry. But the other side is that when he pushes the puck he creates so many opportunites. I don't think he should move to forward but I think he needs to try and minimize his rushes or give him a partner that can move fast like a Marto. Joe was to slow to react with all the 2-1's or 3-2's he faced.

  13. Stop talking and your apology will be accepted.

Finley didn't single handledly choke on a 2 goal lead.

UND lost the game. Not Finley. If you do want to blame him though, that's fine. Let the haters have one last hurrah.

It will be interesting to see who is the whipping boy next year though. Finley is gone. Genoway might have sucked today too, but he's too much of a fan favorite. LaPoint? Well.... all the pieces are there but there is a sympathetic side to his case and he did do a pretty good job on the PK... Blood? Fienhage?

OH! MacWilliam! Big, bruiser. Sure to take untimely penalties. Maybe he'll be the next Finley.

I don't know. Guess the haters have all off season to cook something up. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Exactly what I was thinking! Finley wasn't terrible but is often left out to dry by his partner. He might be a tad slow but we'll see next year when he's in the AHL possible NHL and we're still here reading the comments about the next whipping boy. And will Melrose please stop talking!!! I'm takin Notre Dame the rest of the way.

  14. No problem. I didn't know if anyone was reading. I was talking to myself there for a bit. :D

    I'll keep going then.

Yes...please keep going. My son and I are reading this while watching Toews and Parise in overtime. Doesn't get much better than that....except listening to the game. Thanks Brian!!

  15. and NO webcast through team sites. this site below may pick them up the day of games

    http://www.channelsurfing.net/

I'm not sure on this but was looking at the cable guide last night and I think a person can order single games on ESPNU but only on game day....Not in advance. I live in forks and have Midco with extra packages. Any other thoughts form someone? What about direct TV, is it on there? Got that at the lake.
