  1. Those two examples pretty much make my theory bunk. But I guess you would have to try and estimate what those games would have drawn at Hyslop. Also, the "newness" of the REA is pretty much offset by the "newness" of the Betty. But in the long run, I think you're right. Have one arena you bball team can call home. Unless you're expecting a huge crowd (conference championship on the line or something like that) play all games in the Betty.
  2. OK, I have to admit the love coming my way from you guys is more than a little freaky. I found the link to the MSU game at the REA from 2002. Beavers draw 7542 I don't know how I remembered that (actually I do, I think it was disbelief that you guys drew 7000 for the Beavers). I doubt that kind of attendance would be the norm for ooc games, but I say if the building's available play in it.
  3. I checked your guys' volleyball schedule and basically the regular season is over on November 13th. I would speculate they want to play every game possible in the Ralph, thinking the arena itself would draw more fans. Didn't UND draw something like 7000 for a Minot State game in the Ralph a few years ago?
  4. Minot State would sometimes fill the lower bowl of the Dome for big conference games in the late 80's. I would guess that would be close to 5000 people. I think they would do ok attendance-wise for bball, but having never attended a Beaver football game I can't comment on the football program.
  5. In 2000 Delta State had extremely small linebackers. They ran a 3-4 and one of the inside linebackers was about 190, and they had an outside lb that was in the 165 range. But they also had a noseguard that was about 330. I think now their coaching staff is much different, so I they may look quite different. It should be a great matchup.
  6. According to this Fargo Forum articleBrady Trenbreath is playing in the East West Shrine game. If so, that's great news. When the accident first occurred, I wondered if he would ever be completely healthy again, and now it looks like he's recovered enough to take contact. I wish him the best.
  7. Corella, you are definitely the guru when it comes to college basketball. You need to post on Bisonville more often. It appears that a conference would not really be penalized for taking the SU's when it comes to RPI. Let's say the mid-con takes us and expands to 12 teams with a two divisions. That would be 16 DI games. I don't think it would be that hard to find 5 or 6 nonconference games to fill out the schedule, so IMO it is not really a risk for a conference to take a provisional team.
  8. I actually thought it was pretty funny. Any idea how old that is?
  9. I remember that from a piece on "Sixty Minutes". They basically had to scout the entire country to fill spots on the roster, while there are hundreds of talented male gymnasts and wrestlers who have nowhere to continue their careers.
  10. Thanks, jloos. It seems like you always hear some of the conservative pundits (Sean Hannity in particular) bring up the word treason when liberals start spouting off about the war. While I don't necessarily agree that we should try these people for treason, I was just wondering what one has to do to be charged with treason. If what "Hanoi" Jane Fonda did in Vietnam is true, I would certainly think those actions would fall under the realm of treason.
  11. I first saw it on the I-AA board, and of course all the UMass fans were getting alot of crap. It made my blood boil so bad I wanted to travel to Amherst and inflict bodily harm. If he thinks Pat Tillman is an idiot then all American servicemen who have ever went to war for this country are by his standards idiots. I know there's some lawyers on this board. When does one cross the line of free speech into treason?
  12. Thanks, I was most curious about baseball, track and field, and the "olympic" sports. I would guess that both mens' and women's bball would ramp up to 13 and 15, respectively right away. It would only be an increase of 3 for the men and 5 for the women, and those sports should generate enough revenue to cover those increases.
  13. Hey Corella, where have you seen the numbers for NDSU's scholarships. I've seen the ones for football (I think we offer 54 next year), but I haven't seen numbers for other sports.
  14. Fair enough. And I agree, if Hunt and the rest of the team aren't up to I-AA standards, then we are in trouble. I'll think we'll do fine, but of course we'll know more in just a few months.
  15. I'm asking this because I really don't know (I was in grade school at the time). What was the attendance like at Dacotah Field in the 80's for Bison-Sioux games when the Sioux were awful?
  16. I have no idea what that sentence is supposed to mean. When I say (or write) DI and the context is football I mean IA, if i'm referring to I-AA then that is what I'll type. And I stand by what I said, I think Rob Hunt (and a few other Bison) could start for a few DI teams. Heck, I'd put the whole team up against SUNY-Buffalo.
  17. Let me just add from a sane Bison fan there is absolutely no way Hunt would start over Eslinger, although there may be a few DI teams Hunt could start for.
  18. For every UMKC there is a IUPUI. They've been a DI member since 1998 and already have one trip to the Big Dance and another appearance in the Mid-Con championship game. Geography is not a predictor of success or failure in this move.
  19. From all reports the official vote is a formality, since there was zero opposition to it while in committee.
  20. I totally agree with you about MAAC and Pioneer League teams still being DIII if they could. But I just don't know how anyone could argue that DI-AA is not more competitive than DII. About the watering down of DII, I could care less about who comes in to DII. What bothers me is when schools join DII, then whine about scholarships until the limit gets lowered. The SAC only allows 25 or so, but yet they do fine, and I've never heard fans, players, or coaches whine about inequity because of the reduced scholarships. It would be nice if the rest of DII took notice. It seems that in I-AA, the conferences that allow no scholarships accept the fact and don't try to lobby to get limits lowered. And as a side, personally my biggest problem with DII is regionalization and the SSI playoff criteria, not the influx of new programs
  21. The only problem with that is that in DII there is a huge difference between being a playoff team and being one of the top 16 teams in the country. I would have easily put NDSU in the top ten last year, and given that there may have been a dozen DII teams that could have beat Montana on any given day. But Montana was far from being the premier team in I-AA last year. There is no (and I mean no) DII team that could have touched Delaware last year. I will stand very strongly by that statement too.
  22. Yes, and 95% of those schools (including Valparaiso) would wax UM-Crookston and MSU-Moorhead. Call it conjecture if you wish, but there is no doubt in my mind, and I would put a considerable amount of money on the outcome. I will have a lot of fun watching NDSU play UC-Davis, Cal-Poly, Northern Colorado, and the two Southland teams. By the way, I also think Montana Tech would beat UM-Crookston and MSU-Moorhead and also we only play non-scholly at home.
  23. I know absolutely nothing about building construction, but why can't they just bond the remaining 500,000?
