  1. This blog made me chuckle. I hope you don't mind me posting. This is my first post on Sioux Sports. I am a Bison alumni but have enrolled for my masters at UND starting this fall. I researched advanced degrees in Finance from Wisconsin to Oregon and almost every college in between. UND has it all over the others --- hands down. After graduating from NDSU I joined the Army and served with the 101st Airborne and did a tour of duty in Iraq and another in Afghanistan. (There are three things that come from the sky: moisture, bird manure and fools!) Anyway, during my tour of Afghanistan I got acquainted with a number of pilots who where UND alumni. Without question they are among the best in the world; if not the very best. It will be an honor to be a part of the same campus that these courageous people attended. Geez, I can't believe I'm saying this but ----- "Go Sioux!!!"

Thank you for your service!!!! Go Sioux!

  2. To me this is all about people on the council that think they are smarter then the average person and certainly more enlightened so they need to protect you from making a decision, they know what is best for you. They don't. It is the same mentality in Washington, DC a bunch of elitist that think they know what is best for you and do not care about your opinion, because to them it does not matter.

  3. Copyright?

    I say Fighting Cavalry.

I agree with you, Fighting Cavalry would be a great nickname. I have said it for a long time. But with all the PC zealots in charge at colleges. UND will probably end up the Rainbows or some intangible object nickname. It is truly sad to see the Fighting Siux nickname come to an end. But I cheer for the program not the name( I love the name and wish it would stay)but most of us on here just wanted this put to a vote.

What I still do not understand and never will is why is it ok for other schools to only get the approval of one school and UND had to get two schools approval. I think that alone is something that should have never happened. The tribe closest to UND overwhelmingly approves of the name, why is that not enough for the NCAA.

  4. I've been to the last six F4's and bought my tickets from a secondary source for face value all but once and even then it wasn't out of line. This year my two sons and I all applied for tickets. It's still toss up and I may end up buying them from someone else again.

And one time you bought them from a really nice guy that was going to DC by himself.

  5. If you do that application process and you are not selected you get your money back. I know when I went to the Frozen Four in Milwaukee I got my tickets for face value on ebay. So while you can get tickets from a secondary source I would rather just try the application process and hopefully get my tickets that way.

  6. I gave a speech a few years ago regarding the Sioux name and I was given the first perfect score on a speech the instructor had ever given out. I think once again if you can show people the honor and symbolism within the logo people look at the nickname and logo differently. I know my instructor and classmates did.

  7. I also do not think we need to attack the tribes but Cavalry alone is a great nickname. That or Roughriders. It is a way to honor the military and North Dakota heritage.

I still think that Standing Rock will hold a vote and the State Board will reverse their decision. Maybe it is wishful thinking but I am holding onto hope.

  8. Fair enough, But one thing I will say "they" is very broad when its a small minority of the minority making the assumptions. As a whole "they" all do not want this nor blame any problems on UND, you as a fan, or a nickname.

Great I will direct all my anger over this idiotic decision towards the SBoHE.

  9. You were borderline threatening the SBOHE :silly:

Everyone understands the resentment at certain people, but to outlash and talk about the problems on the reservations truancy, alcoholism etc... is wrong.

I am not threatening anyone nor do I want someone to get hurt over this. But i do think that might hear from some people that are pissed off. As far as the alcohol and suicide things. I have read on this board that some of the anti-nickname people say that the nickname is the reason for some of the problems on the reservations, and we all know that is a load of crap. So my question is, when these problems continue what are they going to blame now. That is all.

  10. I think that the members of the state board should watch there back for pissed off Sioux fans. I also think that Spirit Lake and UND should sue the NCAA over unfair practices, why should UND have to have two tribes when other schools across the country only needed one. I wonder what people like FWB will find to blame the problems on the reservation know that the nickname is gone. Because I know that suicide, alcoholism will just disappear now.

  11. The SBoHE, UND president and athletic director, and I believe, Charles Murphy want the name eliminated.

They just don't want to be blamed for it. I have been suspicious of Murphy's real stand on this issue for a long time. By all appearances he is just playing a waiting game with the SBoHE, letting them make the move on eliminating the name. Once they drop the name then Murphy has an out...he didn't get enough time to bring this to a vote. If Murphy was in favor of the nickname or a least in favor of putting it to a vote I believe something positive would have happened today. Looks like a game of hot patato going on...in this case they are passing the nickname around and I think the SBoHE will pull the plug on the music this week.

If the nickname is dropped prior to the deadline I will put full blame on the SB0HE, Kelley, and Faison. If it goes to the deadline without approval and without a vote on SR then the full blame goes on Murphy.

This might be a dumb question but is there a way to contact the State Board and let them know how we feel about this issue and that they need to give it time to have Standing Rock vote on it. I am not sure if there is a way to get those phone numbers or email addresses.

  12. I'm going out on a limb and saying if Standing Rock says no today, the SBoHE will retire the nickname on Thursday.

I want to know why you hate the Sioux nickname and logo? You seem to always want the State Board to retire the nickname, and do not say that you want UND in the Summit league because that is a bogus reason and you know it. I for one think that it is a great way to honor the history of the state of North Dakota and to honor the contributions of the Native American people that made North Dakota the great place that it is.

  13. Correct. You pay for the privilege of being in the lottery and if you're not picked you get your money back, sometime in July.

Correct me if I am wrong but if you have a customer ID # with the NCAA, you are more likely to get picked?

  14. When did you guys get your tickets in the mail...I'm freaking out because we moved and sent them a letter about our new address and have heard nothing. Their website is not very useful. I will just chock it up to the anger i have for Myles!!!

I actually called the NCAA today about something, if you need their number I can send it to you when I get home from work. Let me know.

  15. Someone at work pointed out to me that there is a way to watch it on NCAA.com you need to choose it by sport and then it launches a video player and you can choose any regional you want to.

I am not totally sure it will work but I thought it might be an option for some people.

    Go Sioux!
