I watch pretty much every sport including college basketball. Love March Madness. I’ll be watching Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight. Shocking I know. I’m done now

So can you elaborate what makes the  NBA garbage?

big difference between "booing a team"....and actually booing a national anthem

non political...just saying that would love to see a coach walk his team right back to the plane.

Sounds like us anthem is getting some boos at four nations cup. Will US team walk out on saturday? Why do the canadians have so much hate towards us?

The city gets a million dollars a year.

The people get more job options.

The visitors get more hotel and entertainment options.

Downside: we can't let people decide how they want to spend their money.

The other downside is when money is involved people really perk up.

    You: "We need more money!"

Spirit Lake: "It'll take our money!"

Other cities: "Hey, why they get that money and not us. Not fair!"

    💰 💰 💰

At least the tribe will have spare money to buy security, since gf police wont be allowed on this land!

    No casino ≈ $0

Any money is better than zero.

Property taxes are an odd entity.

If it gets shot down, they'll collect the exact same amount as if it was built then?!

So no downside to the casino/sovereign land in grand forks?

  7. Casino will be on sovereign land so will avoid taxes. Because of this the city has come up with an agreement to collect $855k-$1M per year. Why so little? Isn’t this amount a very tiny fraction of what would have been collected from taxes if this wasn't sovereign land?

You might be right. Didn't know the reservation land cut up into ND in the corner.

    How is it sovereign land?
Did the chunk of land on the Vegas strip become sovereign land because the 3 Affiliated Tribes bought it?
Not a land attorney, but I don't think a tribe can just buy land anywhere and it automatically becomes sovereign land, though maybe that's not what you're trying to say?

I thought it was mentioned they intended to make this sovereign land. Heard this spoken about on KNOX at least, not sure if this is only a rumor or not though.

Malls in general are a dying breed, so this isn't unique to Grand Forks. I would say busy malls doing well are more rare than they are common in 2025. With that said, it either needs major change fast, or needs to be converted to something else fast. Most of the failing malls around the country have closed down or converted, so the Columbia Mall situation has been unique in that sense. No more dragging on a giant empty building.

Giant food hall and beer hall with open seating areas seems to be an easy option for the main areas and smaller empty stores. TILT in Bismarck has done well in one of the old pillar large stores.

I guess the 800 employees from Belcourt might need some housing. Maybe convert it into apartments for the staff?

That’s a lot of zeros to pay for something that isn’t guaranteed.  I know the value isn’t going down but still

Didnt they spend more on their land purchase in Vegas?

Being this is out of gf city limits, the casino/hotel will avoid city taxes. If I read correctly their goal is sovereign land, so would no longer even be part of GF County.

I’d be interested in perspective from Devils Lake residents and how Spirit Lake Casino benefits them.

Cornell is the heaviest team in the country by average weight, but UND is the third heaviest, so not much difference in that aspect. Just have to find a way to sustain more offensive zone time and get more pucks to the net.

I’m heading to NY for this series. I’m excited- never been! :D

Have fun, I went in 2010 and had a blast. The atmosphere at the Lynah was amazing and it was at the local establishments as well. Enjoy!

Those of you planning on watching tonight’s game via NCHC.tv may want to try and fire that up prior to game time.  I access NCHC via my Roku and the site was definitely not functioning correctly.  Long story short, I removed the channel and then reloaded it and now it appears “normal”.  Good luck.

Is anyone able to view the miami game? I paid for my subscription but it wants $37.99/month to watch this game on my end!?
