  1. Who do you see as the most improved player from last season?

The question states "Who do you see as the most improved player (not players) from last season?" you have to pick one just like Tim Hennessy having to pick three stars to maintain the integrity of the poll. I know it's a tough decision but you have to pick someone in all fairness to Rutgers.

  2. IMO, if Drew Stafford had skated as hard and drove to the net like he did this past weekend ALL YEAR LONG, discussions anywhere regarding the Hobey Baker Award would be about what wall Drew would be storing it along in Gord's house. Or at least where the glass case would sit in the lobby of the REA. Seems that the "lower body injury" served as a HUGE wake-up call. Would love to see him keep it going!

With 13 freshmen, there isn't must to pick from for most improved, but I just feel that with Drew, he has finally stepped up to be what we all expected him to be last year. He's scored as many goals this season as he did in the previous 2 and has 7 shorties. Great numbers considering all the offensive talent this year compared to last. I'm looking for him to play a huge role this year in the FF.

  3. I feel Drew Stafford is by far the most improved. He is more multidimensional this year. He's a scoring threat when shorthanded, great on special teams, plus he's really started throwing his weight around. He's definitely ready for the next level. Smaby on the other hand was arguably our best defenseman on the ice at the end of last year and IMHO he has slowly progressed to get back to where he was in April of 2005. He still has more work to do on his stickhandling.

  4. My thoughts are that if Toews continues to dominate at the Frozen Four like he has done so far in post season, he's your #1 overall pick. As for Trupp, he's probably another Ryan Duncan which is great for the Sioux but would likely go undrafted. Forney will probably be taken in the 1st round too.

  5. But remember, Oshie, Ovechkin, and Crosby are nothing compared to Phil Kessel. Ask any Gopher fan.

Oshie is the ROY in my opinion. He's the hardest working player on the ice on both ends every shift. He's not a one dimensional roll player. He makes plays, performs well in transition, good defensively and makes/takes big hits. But Mr. Media will probably win simply because all they'll look at is points.

  6. I believe TRF would have finished off Hermantown had Forney played the entire game, but he 1st period performance was somewhat lackluster. Didn't seem to have the level of intensity I expected for their 1st state tournament in 41 years. Although I did like the penalty he took. That was the kind of physical play that will serve him well at UND. Hopefully the injury wasn't too severe.

  7. I think it will be hard for the Sioux to be anything other than a #3 if they get in to the NCAAs. Remember, there are only two #4 spots available for at large bids. The other two are locked up by the Atlantic Hockey and the CHA champions. The NCAA must avoid inter-conference matchups in the first round of the regionals. So if by chance, UND is a #4, the Gophers will definitely be going elsewhere providing they maintain their #1 seed which is highly likely. If UND is a #3 seed, I guarantee you Minnesota will be in Grand Forks. I don't think we want this to happen even though it is probably inevitable. When was the last time Irmen and Potulny had a bad game in the Ralph?

  8. All we need to do is shut down the Gauthier line. I think the Gophers did a good job limiting their chances. Gauthier did score in the 5-1 loss but the game was already over. If I recall, it appeared that DU skated only three lines against Mn and basically ran out of gas. Carle was forced to press and ended up on his heals frequently. Last weekend defintitely did not help his Hobey chances although I still believe he's the best defensemen in the country.

If we can establish a physical presence while staying out of the box, we should be in good shape. We need the first goal. If last weekend's performance is any indication, the team's passing and position has really improved. Our defense still makes me nervous (except for our goaltending). If Lee makes another mistake like he did against Duluth, DU or any quality team will make us pay.

    GO SIOUX!
