  1. Personally I'm still a little concerned with our scoring, but I have zero concerns with our defense.

Sioux finish it 3-0. JPL's last game at REA will be shutout with rousing standing ovation during his curtain call.

  2. and i think he said the stats guywas on crack :D must suck when you care if you get creidted with a shot or not

That comment makes no sense for him to make. The only benefit of adding a few more meaningless shots only helps Lammy's save percentage.

  3. Providing that the Sioux and CC each advance to the final five, which Friday game would the Sioux be playing? The afternoon or evening game, or does everything hinge on whether or not the gophers make it and win the play in game?

    Please advise......Thanks

Forgive me if my question was answered earlier in the thread

  4. If we can't figure out how to score some goals, we'll go no where in the post season. We barely managed a 3 GPG average in the league this year and in our last 5 games, it's been a measly 1.6. Our defense has been strong but we cannot survive for long with this kind of offensive performance. Hopefully we can get something to click during the MT series.

  5. they are in a corner and a sweep by the sioux can put them away for good. the difference is playmakers. they dont have them right now, or at least the amount of them they would need to make a run at a title. any logical gopher fan will agree with this. stoa was the biggest loss of the season and that was right off the bat and then KO. its reality, those are 2 of their top 3 players and playmakers........im not saying we are gona kill them by anymeans, no way. they havent been able to score goals for a while. lets keep it that way and goon it up, errrrr, i mean play physical hockey right wooger

I agree losing Stoa hurt the Gophers but not sure I would consider him a "play-maker". He's more of a big body finisher which people like Wheeler and Bare-balls desperated need to be effective. I just think their so called playmakers just haven't played that well.

  6. Hmm...well I may be a "newb" as you say on this board, but I can still have an opinion...it seems someone (cough...chevyblaiser..cough) might have been a little offended by my last comment maybe??? All I am saying is that if Porter wears the "C" then he has the responsibility to play in the same way as a Panzer, a Goren, or even a younger Massen. Even if Porter takes bad penalties or slams his stick and curses loudly after missing a shot or a pass or a hit, he still is producing at an incredible rate this year at that will translate into his year next year......Thoughts??????

For those of you keeping score at home, "incredible rate" equals 6 :D

  7. Yeah i agree with you except for hes the exact opposite of brad defauw. Anywho, I check in here once in a while and i decided that it was my time to share a loyal sioux voice. The fact that someone started this thread is nonsense. I know you all wish Chris the best in his future endeavors but the fact that remains is that he is still shooting for a national championship to finish off a rather subpar career with this years squad. I agree with most posters on here that he has blistering speed down the wing and the shot quickness that would make a skeet pigeon shooter jealous, but where do we go from there? The loops around the offensive zone and the constant self-destructiveness of when he doesnt make a play is almost nauseating and shows a severe lack of leadership which you are all praising him for just because he wears a "C" on his jersey. Its not much but chevyblaiser may have a point in regards to what people will recall when the name chris porter is brought up 5 years down the road. Not saying that i dont wish him the best but i felt like a line had to be drawn. Toodles

    The Red Baron

    Couldn't agree more!

  8. From http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/

... 2. Get a goal out of the second line. A major reason UND was so hard to contain last season is because it had two outstanding lines. If you were able to stop Ryan Duncan, Toews and Drew Stafford, then you got to see Rastislav Spirko, Travis Zajac and T.J. Oshie. The second line has been quiet lately for UND, though. Chris Porter hasn't scored in 12 games and Matt Watkins hasn't scored in eight. Tonight, they'll play with Brad Miller, and they need to get some production...

    Bingo!!

And what about next year, when Porter/Toews/Oshie will/probably will be gone? Who's on the 1st line?

Porter needs to be demoted. For those of you who predicted a breakout year of him, well.....CLANK! That C on his jersey needs to be removed and given to Toews while we still have him.

  9. Our goaltending is definitely in question and has been ever since Parise left, even with a healthy PL. But how many goals did we score against AA again? How many 1st & NHL draft choices do we have? How many preaseason Hobey candidates did we have?

  10. Can't agree with the MUCH MUCH better quote? The apparent top 3 team in the country being swept by AA (a projected celler-dweller) is not a team playing better in anyway. Yes its still early in the season but.....geeez.

  11. I suppose if neither works this year we can bring in a new goalie recruit next year. I am going to get flamed for this but hack away. ;) I think its funny that people are hacking on Grecio and calling for our practice goalie because god forbid we won a few shoot outs. I will bet anyone one of you by the time he is done Grecio will be up there in stats and wins at UND.

I have not been all that impressed with Phil since has been at UND, except for a few handful of games he has played at UND. Everyone said he was going to be the NEXT KG. Not even close.

I remember people used to say Jordan was out of position a lot and he was, but he always seemed to come up with the big save (maybe it was luck, it appears Phil has none). Phil does not seem to come up with the big save very often. After looking decent in net against Wisconsin, Phil looked sick against Maine in both games, he definately wont be confused for being Brian Elliot.

A lot of the goals score were him being out of position being too far back in the crease. While Lammy is a good goalie (better than Briggs) he dosn't seem to make the game saving belling ringing saves, but neither did Brandt, both have good number but nothing to show for them.

No flame here. I couldn't agree more. Although I suspect Briggs will have really good stats this year and will hopefully sieve out when it counts in the NCAAs.

  12. Why no love for Porter?

I agree with rw77 ( :glare: )....Porter could have a very good year if he is paired with the right players.

I think that once the team starts finding their scoring touch, Porter will start to add to his point total nicely. His goal against WI was very nice...picked the top corner on Elliott from the slot.

And I think that every team (and line) needs a player like him...always hustling, moving, grinding the corners, getting in front of the net looking for loose pucks to slam home.

If I were Hakstol, I would keep him on the 1st or 2nd line for those reasons.

I can understand the lack of love.

Porter has played with plenty of talented players over the years and hasn't contributed to the level he should have since his freshman year and therefore he's where he deserves to be. For crying out loud, he's the captain and he can't consistently break the top line or be a steady contributor on the power play. He needs to earn it and IMHO, he hasn't.

Perhaps he should hold Hak accountable for his lackluster career then... ???

  13. I'd say the fan base that starts a thread about him being checked, which is actually a fairly normal occurance in hockey.

The first step for you people is to just admit you have a problem. The steps get easier after that and then you'll no longer be forced to live your Kessel obsessed lives. I could even be your sponsor if you'd like.

Bucky actually learned something from Alcoholics Anonymous. When do you get your coin?

  14. Too soon to tell. I'm sure Hak will keep them together this weekend as the chemistry is just too good right now. I think a dominant line is important to have in keeping the opponent on their heels. Although there is probably a drop off of line depth from top to bottom, breaking that line up now would be a bad idea. The other younger players need more time to develop before that should be considered.
