  1. My fault. Ian Powers is a Junior. However he is of senior age, it just slipped my mind.
  2. One game doesn't mean much. Welding is a good player, don't get me wrong, but one game against a lackluster performance doesn't prove much. Charlie Bair had like 70 points his senior year and he didnt win Mr. Hockey. That went to Jake Marto. Keep that thing in mind. Mr. Hockey Hopefuls (my opinion) Zach Miller Danny Wurden Michael Hillman Sean Diechert Tyler Klein Ian Powers (?)
  3. Welding with four goals? That's impressive. Then again I don't know what DL has for a team this year.
  4. This is just a question I was wondering. Does that go for criminals who get sentenced to life without parole. I assume they cannot get paroled right? Or am I wrong. Do not mistake that statement for sarcasm opposing the death penalty. I believe he should be sentenced to death.
  5. In all of my years of hockey I have yet to hear a coach teach his player to hook a player that has the puck to slow him down. In fact it has been the exact opposite. "Keep your feet moving, and catch the guy." The comparison of West teams being less penalized than East teams and saying my theory has a flaw there does not correlate. The West teams do not play the East teams during the regular season (very often) so there would be no direct comparison. The way I see it is teams that took a lot of penalties last year are going to be affected much more than the teams that took less penalties.
  6. The reason that the top 4 teams will be less affected is obvious. Better teams, have better skaters. The better you can skate, the less you need to use your stick. So the bottom half of the conference teams, who previously were able to try and slow down the more skilled players by hooking, tripping, and slashing there opponents will no longer be able to use those tactics. It's really a simple and logical explanation. I'm not on here to criticize a players style of play. However, last season Spennginsby had a huge amount of penalties. This is before the rule changes. I find it very hard to believe that he completly changed his style of game to adapt to the elite league and the rule changes. Maybe we can get his penalty minutes from elites? The point I was trying to make when someone said that Jamestown graduated there highest penalty minute taker, I wanted to point out that they still have plenty of players who are going to take penalties. Here it is one last time. The top teams in the conference are better skating teams than the lower half, correct? So ff player A is a better skater than player B, player A will not need to hook or impede the progress of player B because he can outskate player B.
  7. I completely disagree. The top teams in the state don't need to use their sticks, because they can skate. So they won't have much trouble adjusting to the new rules. Nic Spenningsby also had a huge number of penalties last season and I think anyone will agree with my Jamestown in general takes lots of penalties. The point is, the teams that can outskate their opponents (South, Red River, Grafton,... whoever else steps up) will be less penalized than the teams in the bottom of the conference. The number of players from each of these high school teams is significantly greater than the number of them that are also playing in the fall leagues. Top 4 teams in each conference= less effected by new rules Bottom 4 teams in each conference= more effected by new rules Reasoning.. Good teams have good skaters and poor teams have poor skaters.
  8. Jamestowns biggest problem is the penalty box. And with the new rules in place I don't see it getting any better. If they don't realize they can't win on the penalty kill early, I don't see them making a run at the West Region.
  9. National team? I guess I'm not 100% up on the Elite league but is this like a Team USA type thing and they get to go overseas and play? How was the team picked? Who else from around the Nation is on the team? Any USHL guys?
  10. Sean is a great goalie. It becomes more clear if a player can play D-1 or not when he moves into the Junior ranks, rarely when he is in the high school ranks. On that note, I believe Sean is technically sound and has what it takes to play Junior A hockey. From there, it all depends on how he progresses. I look forward to watching him play after high school and hopefully at a college D-1 school as well.
  11. I love Zach Millers style of play. I think any combination of forwards you put with him would succeed because he has so much fire in his game he makes other players around him better. If I was a coach I'd make my gameplan around him. Red River is always going to find players. They probably won't be as dynamic as last year with Mihulka gone but I see them making some major noise. Does Alex Simonson have anyone to play with? If so, Central could surprise some teams.
  12. Don't forget Parker Metz, who is playing with the Jets right now. I have one statement about Fargo South right now. Unless Red River gets some spectacular play from their forwards, South is too big, too strong, too fast.
  13. I may be going out on a limb here but North may actually be better than last year. On one condition. They play as a team. Last year North played for themselves and it showed in the statistics. How are you going to score goals when no one shares the puck? Every time North came to town whether it was for a league game or EDC I saw the same thing. One player trying to do it all himself. Another downside is that Norths bantams last year were weak. Really weak. I don't think there is any help in the pipeline right now. If North plays like they did last year, you can count them out of the state tournement.
  14. Easy to mix the names up. John, Jay. The share similar qualities besides last name aswell. Both are excellent coachs.
  15. Devils Lake will be a mid of the pack team. It's hard to compete with Red River, South, and Grafton unless you've got some special players. It's nice to see you have support for your team but, is there any chance you can change your name to DannyGrovesMamma? haha.
  16. Lets go back a few years and include the best games played in the old ralph (through lets say 1990). Any ideas?
  17. Are you saying the best ND school would fair well against the average teams, or that an average ND school would fair well against an average TX school? Not to put ND down but, I find that very hard to believe.
  18. Hmmm this is interesting. I'm trying to think of who played high school hockey that was around 5-6 years ago. I'm sure you'd know however, because these Jr. Gold boys your talking about were so good no one was even worth comparing to. Your probably right, but I do believe some sophomores at Grand Forks Red River named Danny Irmen and Ryan Potunly that might disagree with you. Seriously. Was that statement a joke?
  19. That's exactly the point. Until the majority of high school players want to play junior gold and get in 50 games a year thats all junior gold will be, a really good JV team. Even now with the kids the "choose" to play junior gold, from my perspective most of these kids do so because they are assuming to be cut from their respective high school team and don't want to put themselves through that kind of embarrassment.
  20. I agree to an extent. The NHL changed it's rules to yield more scoring and more fans (more income). I think the level of scoring in high school hockey was just fine. Don't get me wrong I'm not entirely apposed to the new rules, I mean, let the skilled players do their thing. On the other hand, I dont want to see the game get "soft".
