  1. Settle down gentleman. Until the teams play it's really pointless to argue because only time will tell how well the two teams match up. On the South vs. White Bear, well, maybe White Bear did have a bad game. But on the other hand, maybe South had a bad game? Just some things to consider before you come out firing on all cylinders about how good your respective team is. Because then in the event of a loss the people you are arguing with are going to want to tear you down because of statements you made in the past. Best of luck to all teams.
  2. Agreed, they are fun to watch. Is it as fun watching them in full gear and a Red River RoughRiders jersey though?
  3. Danny Wurden had two goals for South and in my opinion was the best player on the ice. The checking from behind was ugly. When the North player was hit I had to turn and look away, fearing what may have happend to him. The first thing I said is I hope he gets more than a game for a play like that. Sometimes in the intensity of the game it happens on accident, but plays like that have no place in the game of hockey. I thought it was one of the worst checking from behinds I had ever seen in my life. Just my opinion. South was just too big, too strong, too fast to keep up with for the entire game. North did keep it interesting for a while though.
  4. Haha. Just to clear somethings up that may be confusing to some fans/parents/players. The rules are not new. They are just being enforced as stated in the rulebook. They were not aggresively enforced that is why we believe they are "new". Technically, if you touch your stick to a player in any attempt other than to play the puck, it's a penalty. Whether you like it or not that's the way it is. The intent is not to slow the game down and make it choppy, the intent is to have it be a hockey game and not a wrestling match out there. In time it will open the game up and let the skill guys do there thing. Hopefully it will be the end of "Oh hey this guys 6'2" lets give him all the opportunity in the worl, he's not as fast or skilled as this 5'8" guy but we'll just have him clutch and grab and not have to take time to develop him."
  5. If it's true, Alex Simonson quitting is a big shocker. Not as big of shocker as Fargo North being 4-0 right now. Quick question- is North really that good... or is the state just that bad? Right now I'm just going to roll with North is playing well and give South only a slight edge over them with a 3-1 win with an empty netter (with 41 seconds left to play haha). Had North not started this way I might have said South by 6 or 7. But North is hot right now so I think they could keep it close. I guess we'll see.
  6. Weisgarber (South 1st), Marto (central 2nd), Moreland or Mcintyre?(central 1st), K. Moreland? (central 1st?)
  7. Are the EDC top four looking to be- 1. South 1. Red River 3. North 4. Grafton?
  8. Sean Diechert is a great goalie and will definitly be a Mr. Hockey candidate. However, when will we see how good he really is? Last year he did not face many shots a game due to the talent South has on the defensive side of the puck, and when he did see shots, where were they coming from? Poor angles. In my opinion this could hurt Seans chance at Mr. Hockey if it is taken into account. The coachs may tip there hat to a player on a weaker team who elevates his teams play to another level (Everson, Bombenger, Hillman, Hills (GPR)). Just a thought. I have no idea who will be up for Mr. Hockey, as far as I can see it is wide open.
  9. You're just mad because you want all the talk in the message board to be about Grand Forks Red River. Not everyone who posts on this message board has the same hockey knowledge as everyone else. And when a parents sees his team string together three passes and put the puck in the back of the net and his sons team wins 5-1 it is only logical to believe that they will think they have an alright team. So he comes on the message board and types his or her beliefs about how their respective team will do this year. If it is far fetched someone will tell them in a polite manner or provide logical reasons as to why their statements may be false. Not come on here saying how brutal their team is and that the only talk in the message board should be about "the big three" from the East. I would love to see a team from the West win state. I would love to see Wahpeton beat Grand Forks Red River. I would love to see Dickinson tie Grafton. Why? Because this means the state is improving. If we can get more and more teams competing with one another and not have certain teams or conferences dominate we are headed in the right direction. Improve the quality of play over the entire state so we can provide equal chances to move on to the next level as our counterpart across the river.
  10. I don't think the new rules will mean more kids leaving to Jr. hockey if that's what you meant by leaving. You have to be a pretty special player to forgo years in high school to play Jr. A hockey. If you watch how strong those players are on their skates, or how they make plays at top speed you'll see it's not an easy adjustment to make for any player, especially someone in high school. I'm not saying we don't have the quality of players to play Jr. hockey, that's not what I'm saying at all. But Jr. A hockey teams choose you, you don't get to choose them. So in that sense, you may want to leave and play Jr. A hockey but you might not be what they are looking for.
  11. Should be interesting to see DL play a team like Grafton or North. It looks like both those teams are middle of the pack and it will be a good measuring stick for them. This season will be very interesting...
  12. That has nothing to do with what I said. You said Elite 2 hockey is like JV hockey (which may be true). NDpride then brought about the information of a a number very good hockey players (one going division1) and you were still unable to get the point. Last years Elite 2 team from ND may have been bad. But that doesnt mean the team the year prior (Ian Powers, Zach Miller, Tanner Hills), or in years future will be poor. Nor does it mean that all teams in that league are like JV teams. I'd put my money on the top Elite 2 team in the league against any High School team in ND. The point was your generalization about Elite 2 hockey just doesn't add up. I get your point, and I should have been able to read that you were talking specifically about this years team. I really don't see where Fargo North or my recently turned 71 year old father fits into the mix. North is bad and has been for several years, and likely will be for years to come. If you were to say no good players have ever came out of Fargo North then I would probably disagree and point you towards players Cory McClean (sp?), and Aaron Walski.
  13. That may be true. I haven't looked at this years roster. But to say a team with 5 future Jr. A hockey players was merely "alright" it seems like you're implying your unimpressed by those players and think your head and shoulders above them. That was just my read on things.
  14. The team used to be alright? Paul Weisgarber (USHL), Erik Galt (USHL/NAHL), Jeff Foss (USHL), Jordy Christian (USHL/St. Cloud), Marc Harrie (NAHL). How do you figure a team with those guys is just decent? I think everyone in here would agree you seem like a high school student and probably a hockey player. Did you play Elite 2 last year and know the quality is down? Or did you play Elite one like Paul, Erick, Andy, Jake, Nick, Jeff, And Jordy did the year after there season with Elite 2?
  15. The teacher in me wants to tell you not to use "at" at then end of a sentence. Haha. Someone posted he's skating with the Jets. If that's true I looked at the Jets roster and adding him would put them somewhere around 32 players. Is that legal?
  16. I think North is going to be outmatched in most aspects of the game on thursday. GPR has 2 lines at least that get up and down the ice very well and they are always crafty and move the puck well. Neither team has a goalie so that factor cancels out. Also from what I hear Grafton was very physical with South last night. Is this true? That hasn't been typical from Grafton in the past few years. My prediction is 6-2 in favor of the Spoilers. Comparatively this year of high school hockey has significantly less talent than years passed. There are no players like Jake Marto, Jordan Willert or Rody Selk who played two years ago. Grand Forks Red River has two defenseman who are very good but nothing like Marto. Jordan Willert was in the USHL all-star game last season and I do not believe there are any players of that caliber playing in ND right now. Because the state is down and the new rule changes I believe point totals will be huge. I think if you get 30 or 40 points this year, you would probably get a little more than half of that in previous years. What does everyone else think?
  17. I believe the state is down in general. Here is a look at some of the players that graduated last year that are playing at the next level. Paul Weisgarber- USHL Andy Dittus- USHL Tyler Jundt- USHL Erick Galt- USHL/NAHL Marc Mihulka-NAHL Marc Harrie- NAHL Grant Larson- NAHL Alex Olson- NAHL Adam Campbell- Concordia Nick Klenow- I hear he's playing, where? Then dynamic forwards Thomas and Paul Campbell, Ross Monson, and Justin Connell. Eli Rosendahl also graduated who was an able bodied goaltender to say the least for GFRR last season. Grafton also graduated a very good (maybe off the wall, but good) goaltender in Tony Kringstad. Fargo North graduated there starting goaltender in Justin Welk. Many teams lost many key players. These are just some of the big names from last season. Other players who may have been talented enough to move on in hockey chose to hang up the skates last season as well. I do not believe there will be 10 players from this years senior class who will be able to fill that many spots in the Junior ranks.
  18. I'm not going to disagree that they have talent and chemistry. But, it's easy to have chemistry when you're playing a team that you can beat by 13 goals.
  19. That was said because previously someone said teams that compete year in and year out should only be talked about. Well, apparently only the past 2 years count to you. How about you start your own message board called South, Red River, and Grafton. Or maybe, each year we should all vote on which three teams we should talk about and then disregard all the other teams because apparently those are the only three teams that matter. Or because the three teams that everyone thinks will be the best in the state at the beginning of the year always are. Use your head.
  20. I dont think anybody is giving Jamestown any credit, most things said about Jamestown are negative
  21. You're right don't give Grand Forks Central any credit. They don't deserve it. Just look at how many titles they've won. Great point buddy.
