  1. Ok, I'm putting this in this thread. It doesn't belong in any of the existing threads really and I don't want to create a thread for it so...

UMN got their replacement goaltender for Frazee yesterday by signing Kent Patterson. Not at all surprising. He was among one of the better uncommitted goaltending prospects in the USHL. He'll be a good backup for Kangas.

In other news, August Aiken was once recruited by UND. He committed to UAA recently.

apparently und was going to make a pitch to patterson...o well.

  2. After talking with players that played with and against Mike Cichy, he will not have the impact on the program that many are expecting. From what I've heard, he can't even bench 100lbs. He is not a good team player and not liked by his teammate because of his attitude. Don't get me wrong, he has the skills to play at the next level but just isn't the type of player that many people like to play with.

that sounds like BS to me. cichy has twice as many assists(29) to goals(14). also, everybody in the ushl can bench 100. are you just making this stuff up?

  3. He was the leading goal scorer on the NTDP 18U team this year. It has nothing to do with his on ice ability, Kristo just simply didn't accelerate his education and therefore is not eligible next year.

i dont know...you ask some of the "experts" around here(who have never seen him play), and they say hes not ready regardless.

  4. He is definitely on base with that comment, in fact he may be rounding third and heading home.

--Breakin face "A cross between Gasparini, Blais, and Charles Barkley"

--Breakin face "A newbie who likes to make noise"

  5. Yeah, I'm with you and Goon on this one. I think the 08-09 Fighting Sioux will burn out the goal lights.

i agree as well. i think people are way too down after the loss, and losing a couple of players. there are some very good players coming back, and you combine that with a class that will rival the 06 class, you have a stellar combination.

  6. Will David Toews get drafted in round 1? If not, this will be the first Sioux team in a long while not to feature some big-time NHL prospects

The last time the Sioux didn't feature a current or future #1 draft pick in the lineup was the 2001-2002 season

    2008: Finley and Oshie

2007: Finley and Oshie and Toews and Lee

2006: Finley and Oshie and Toews and Stafford and Zajac and Lee (should've done it...that's an NHL lineup)

    2005: Stafford and Zajac

    2004: Parise and Stafford

    2003: Parise

toews was not a 1st rounder in 2006 :silly: DT will probably be a 1st rounder this summer. id be surprised if not.

  7. very early prediction for wcha next year:

    1. CC

    2. Denver

    3. Minny-a trip to DC isn't out of the question as they won't have to leave the state of MN for a playoff game with the West Regional being at mariucci.

    4. Wisconsin

    5. SCSU

    6. UND-to many questions to be answered on defense, in goal and for scoring.

    7. msu-makato

    8. tech

    9. duluth

    10. aa.

ill bet 1 million that und finishes top 5....strike that. why are you predicting how the wcha finishes next year? the season ended 2 days ago.

  8. He was in the lineup last night and ended the game with a one sided fight. Bad news is that his team lost 3-0 and there will be a game 7 in Camrose for the AJHL championship. If Camrose does win and advance to the next level there could be some real fireworks between him and Hextall.

are you serious!? thats good news. and hopefully he beat the crap out of the guy that hit him. :silly:

  9. I would say Oshie is the only one who is 100% gone.

If not for the MCL injury I would also expect Chorney to be gone. With the injury there may be a slight chance he is back if Edmonton wants to wait and see how the rehab goes. 90% that he goes.

Duncan is hard to say. If he can get a high offer I would say he is gone.

Finley is probably 50/50 based on what I have heard.

Kozek is another tough one. He has an NHL shot but needs more development before he is ready. I am guessing it may depend on how the rookie/prospect camp goes this year. If he gets a decent offer I think he is gone. We may not know about him until July/August. 50% chance.

Outside of these I don't expect anyone else to leave for the NHL/AHL early. The bigger risk for someone else leaving is for Major Juniors. Not expecting it, but nothing would surprise me.

i would say oshie, chorney, and finley are 100%. kozek is increasing the more i think about it. over 50% for sure, but very likely that ATL will want to get him in the mix. duncan is the only one i can see staying more than leaving.

  10. My memory is often faulty but I believe that the failure of those small skilled teams when facing large BU/MI? teams was a factor in Blais changing the mix of players he recruited. Seems like that's when he started getting bigger more physical players. I seem to recall he made comments to that effect, but I can't say for sure either.

i think that winning a championship takes a lot. puck luck, chemistry(which i think never was this year), will to win, rediculous goaltending, etc. you can win with big teams, fast teams, offense, defense....its not just one setup. i dont think that this would be as big of a deal if we had not lost to bc this year.

  11. Back on topic, where is our scoring going to come from next year. It seems most people agree we need faster, more skilled players in order to bring home a championship. Where are those players going to develop on our roster? I gave my analysis earlier and I didn't see where we were going to get a boost in goals. If anything, I think we'll take a dip in scoring. We're going to have early departures for sure, so that means that we might as well forget about competing before January 1, 2009, which is evidently fine with everyone on this board, since when, back in December, I stated I'm sick of the poor starts that have seemingly become the new definition of Fighting Sioux hockey and was subsequently lambasted by everyone for being a poor fan who doesn't support the team. So, I ask again, where is the scoring going to come from. Someone mentioned Martens scoring 30 goals next season. What makes you say that? Are the new recruits going to be the spark we need? I'm curious to know what you guys and gals think.

if kozek and duncan stay we will have zero firepower problems. if both go, we will still be good...people are too concerned with the oshie departure. the talent is rediculous for next year.

  12. Me too.

Some posters are so busy drinking the all is well cool-aid they can NOT allow for even constructive criticism.

The last four years have shown that in the BIG TOURNY lack of team speed, scoring depth and sound defense kills them.

No experience at goalie, losing the guy that carried them for two years and a couple other defections makes next year a rebuilding year.

i actually disagree with a number of the comments that Irish made. it would take too long to touch all.

i have to disagree with your comment too. people will be surprised at how good next years team will be. i have no question with their talent, it is the character that i do not know.

i agree with your first comment...the drinking was REALLY disappointing. makes me glad to lose oshie. if im not mistaken, all of the guys that have gotten into trouble with the police will be gone after this year. that is good.

  13. That was as bad as it gets; BC conitnues to build small, speedy teams, whose physicality amounts to cheap shots on the opponents best players. Gerbe sent Lammy flying after scoring on him, then running him on the way by before the celebration.

If this had been the regular season, there would have been a major scrum that would have gone way beyond the Wisco/Sioux and Pioneers/Sioux scrums this season. Sioux held there composure very well, unfortunately BC used the cheapness to their advantage, once again.

i have to disagree. i think lammy flopped. from what i saw in the replay, he wasnt even touched.

  14. [rant]

So many Sioux fans make being a Sioux fan a joke. To see everyone just ripping apart a few people for not winning a hockey game is unbelievable. Do some of you honestly believe that these guys aren't trying to win or something? It's an embarrassment to see and hear what's all being said. When you lose 6-1, it's a team thing, not something caused by a few individuals.

So many of you are on and off the bandwagon all year, every year, and need to just stay off. If they are so horrible, don't even waste your time cheering for them if you are just going to rip them the next day. Many of you are spoiled crybabies...spoiled being the key word.

So many teams wish they could even sniff a chance at a game like this. 55 other teams dreamed they even had an oppurtunity to lose 6-1 just so they could have that chance at winning. Some teams will NEVER make it this far. Us..? We take it for granted that we'll be here, and some appreciate it, and some abuse it.

Hakstol is a great coach. Finley is a great defenseman. Lamoureux is a great goaltender. Almost every team wishes they could have our facilities, our coaching, and many of our players. Hell, even the NHL wishes they had some of our players.

Next year, when we are at it again with a fresh new team and a clean slate, I hope many of you are not a part of it, because it is a complete joke that some of you call yourself "fans."

If there is anything to bash, it's you.

    PS: Go Notre Dame!

great post...i would like it if more people looked more realistically at these things. hopefully egfHOSEHOUND will read this and maybe not be such a moron.

  15. i bet a one of the three captains next year will include watkins.

kozek is as good as gone. talked to his dad at the final 5. said andrew doesnt no that this is the time of his life and andrew thinks he will be making ton of moeny and life will be great.

    was it said like that?

  16. A reasonable alternative, to be sure.... but what about Jones? Steady, solid, doesn't make many mistakes, not flashy, doesn't take penalties (ok...that's not really Sioux captain-esque :) ). VV might sign. Duncan might go too. If so, we could see both Genoway and Jones wearing a letter.

Heck, maybe Martens will wear a letter. I don't know how much more that guy could do for his team off the ice and in practice. He did have a great year this year too all things considered.

i think he will be 3 or even maybe a 4 year guy. according to HF, the oilers look at him as a long term project. i like your thinking on jones. definitely duncan if he stays...he is fantastic.

and your previous post with the caps signing finley... sasha pokulok was a lot like finley and they signed him after his soph season. i think finley is gone for sure.

  17. chorney will still be gone. i think duncan and kozek are the best hopes to stay. on a similar note, i wonder if stoa will be back for UM? i would say yes, and that will be very good for them.

  18. Didn't see this posted, my apologies if it has.

    Todays practice photo gallery

Also, article and press conference video

thanks for the links. i didnt think to look for the video because you usually have to pay. nice that they changed that for the F4. i like the way jerry york talks about und all the time. has nothing but respect.

also, im not sure if im the only person who noticed this, but our guys seemed a lot more relaxed than they did last year. thats probably good...they were too hardcore about last year. i remember watching BC last year and thinking that they were not focused enough(their guys were really relaxed and in good humor). i think that the team learned a lot about the last few performances.
