  1. From a very reliable account Wurden took an unprovoked two hand at Fargo North's Matt Labernik and caused him to have a season ending injury in the South and North's 2nd meeting this season. I'm sure ND Pride will vouch for me on this one.

Well your "reliable account" isn't very reliable because Labernik played all three EDC games. So the injury couldn't have been that bad.

  2. I don't disagree with you, but if you let EDC swing your vote, as some here have indicated, you'd have to factor in the fact that Erick lost the puck behind the net on the power play which resulted in Mihulka's short-handed game-winner in the EDC championship. Arguably that single play won the game for Red River since it put them up by two instead of South later tying the game and having the momentum. If you let that game swing your vote, you'd have to let the deciding play swing your vote, which would almost force you to vote for Mihulka.

Personally I don't think you should base anything on one play or even one game. But since the voters can't see all the games, individual games can sway the voting a lot more than they should, especially postseason games. With that said, I do think Weisgarber will win it, based mostly on numbers and a good performance at EDC (although overshadowed by Mihulka). I don't think it will be a landslide, and I wouldn't be surprised if any of them won it, since their numbers and records are so comparable on paper.

Your facts are a little wrong here. In that short handed goal Erick didn't turn it over, Wurden got the puck and then was picked by Mihulka and scored, so I don't see how you can put the blame on Erick in that situation or Wurden for that fact. Marc made a good play on Wurden and made a heck of a shot.

P.S. I still don't see how Wurden didn't make all conference with year he had.

  3. If the award of Mr. Hockey was just flat out the best hockey player in the state, Mihulka of RR would win. No one in the state can compete with his size, strenght or general skills when it comes to battleing in the corners. If its gonna be all about #'s then it would have to go to Weisgarber.

I dont totally agree with that. I do agree however that Mihulka is very good in the corners and has good strength which results in a VERY hard shot. But to say that he is the flat out best hockey player is a stretch. I believe that Weisgarber has better hands, can just see the ice better and has a very accurate shot, which results in all the points he has. So in my opinion, I think Weisgarber should win but if it's Mihulka, Campbell, or Galt, all of them deserve this award with the year they've all had but it will be interesting to see who it is!

  4. I believe the #1 Western school plays the noon game because that game commonly has the lowest attendance number, and they would rather lose money off a Minot-(Insert eastern 4 seed here) game than risk losing some gate for the best eastern team which usually comes from the city of Grand Forks (the host city). I'm not saying thats the exact reason why and if it is it's completely wrong but it may be why.

Interesting theory. You could be right. It seems everything now days is driven by the almighty dollar.

  5. I hope it comes down to a rematch of the South-GFRR game at the Ralph for the tourney championship. From the sounds of things, and what I've read, it was a VERY good game.

Maybe GFRR will win. Maybe South will win the rematch. Who knows? Gosh, what a treat the last one was from what I heard. Probably would have been at that game if I hadn't had a suite at the Sioux game.

As for riders06- Yeah, careful. You wouldn't want to make DaveK's point for him.

Ok, on a completely unrelated note:

I was listening to the Central/West Fargo contest yesterday on my way up from Fargo on the radio and a High School player's stick was broken in a play. Nothing out of the ordinary there, but it got me thinking: If a player's stick is broken during a game, does the player have to go out and buy another one or does the school have a supply of sorts of sticks and equipment? I believe high school football teams supply each team with at least jerseys and helmets if not pads as well... Kindof curious on that. I mean, those sticks can cost $200-$400 each!

The player has to furnish their own sticks, most are in the 100-200 dollar range though.

  6. It's unfortunate that Williston may have lost some of their players to injury. I was looking forward to seeing them at the State tournament this year. Ideally, it would be great if every team was at full strength. I had the opportunity to see some of the Williston players this summer. I was impressed with some of their skills, especially Jundt. I'm not surprised he got the WDA senior award. Congrats to him!

  7. A few observations on posts over the last few days. When Junior24 made his original post he had the spelling "Weisgarbage" as that is what I saw in his original post as I was online when he posted it. That post was changed shortly thereafter but my feeling is that his original spelling "error' was caught and those who cited him did not tamper with it - just my view. The original "error" (putdown) of Weisgarber came from Jagrfan around Feb 7th when he referred to the south player in that way. Stars9 has no disrespect for Mr. Weisgarber as the context of his posts on this thread clearly show. Now, tron3050 has not been a core contributer over the season but jumps in, starting in February, with a combination of player putdowns and an attempt to analyze. We would all be better off if the childish attacks would stop. You have to ask yourself what your putdowns really accomplish. These sorts of comments just show that some people are too immature to handle discussions on a high school hockey thread. The anonymity of this type of forum is too much for some and the cowardly nature of their comments is clear to all reasonable contributors to this thread.

    Thank you, doubleu.

  8. My answer to this question would be probably you, who was maybe upset about South losing to RR...Postseason awards don't really matter.

Ya I was upset that South lost to RR so I decided to bash Souths best player...... you've got to be kidding me Tron. Think with your head here, none of what you are saying makes any sense!

  9. Actually, Stars9, you CAN change the post and make it look like the original author wrote it. For example, look how I changed the names in the all-EDC team (I bolded them for you). As far as the five posts, do you think this is the first time I've ever used a message board?

You are absolutly right so I cannot prove 100% that I didnt change it but you cannot prove 100% that Junior didn't change it either but would you please answer my question from earlier.I have never bashed anyone on this site before, Im a South fan so it would make absolutly no sense why I would do that. Stop trying to set people up on this site!

  10. Now this proves my previous post. I posted that one line, Cory quoted my ORIGINAL post and then I went back an edited it. Now the original post is gone and the new one replaced it, so should I say that Cory went and changed my post.... I dont think so. Too bad Tron and Junior couldn't of figured that one out.

  11. Very interesting that you pointed this out - Hey everyone- go back and reread junior24's original post. He spelled the name "Weisgarber". Stars9 then went and changed it to "Wisegarbage". Pretty classy, Stars.

The only one who can edit or change a post is the original author, not me! But Tron maybe if you knew anything about how this posting works maybe you wouldn't try bashing on an innocent poster, because you have a whole FIVE POSTS!!! In this clever case junior posted those names and when i quoted it, it showed up and then junior must have felt so terrible about it, that he had to go back and change it, and have his friend here (Tron) made me look like the guilty one. Nice try though!!

P.S. By the way who do you think would be more likely to post somthing like that about Paul? Me who lives in Fargo and supports Paul or a RR supporter who a couple hours before making that post, just saw his beloved Mihulka lose to Paul for the Senior player of they year?

  12. Congrats to Paul on winning the Mr Hockey Runner Up award tonigth! Mihulka is truely an amazing player. No other way to put it.

    All EDC is as Follows:

    G-Sean Diechart

    G-Eli Rosendahl RR

    D-Eric Galt FS

    D-Andy Peterson GPR

    D-Ryan LaDoucer RR

    D-Jarret Galbreath RR

    D-Marc Harrie Shanley

    D- Tyler Swanson WF

    F-Mark "Ten Bears" Mihulka RR

    F-Adam Cambell FS

    F-Grant Larson FS

    F-Paul Wisegarbage FS

    F-Paul Cambell GPR

    F-Thomas Cambell GPR

    F- Alex Simonson GFC

Very interesting spelling on some of the names. You were obviously in the RR student section. [see my earlier post]

  13. Who did win all the EDC awards? I left before the awards ceremony so I missed that.

There were more penalties called on Red River tonight (not sure of the numbers off-hand, but it wasn't what I would call lopsided) but I don't think that necessarily means the refs were favoring South. Sometimes one team actually does commit more penalties than the other team.

Seriously, though, the two teams were incredibly evenly matched. I hadn't seen either of their previous games, but they're so close that the smallest thing or a lucky bounce can make a big difference. Judging just from tonight's game and who was controlling the puck I'd say that Red River's first line has a slight edge over South's first line, but South's second and third lines have a slight edge. The goalies are about even.

Here's hoping they get the opportunity for a rematch next weekend for the state title!

As far as I can remember:

    All conference

    South-Weisgarber, Larson, Campbell, Galt, Deichert

    Grafton/PR-P. Campbell, Peterson

    RR-Mihulka, LaDoucer,Galbreath,Rosendahl

    Central-Simonson

    Shanley-Harrie

    W. Fargo-Swanson

    Sorry if I missed anyone.

As far as the penalties are concerned, RR was one of the most penalized teams in the state and South was one of the least penalized. The fact that RR had more penalties tonight wouldn't surprise me.

I agree 100% with on this being a game of bounces sometimes. South's first goal was a screen shot by Galt. The goalie had no chance, and I think one of RR's goals went off a body and another one was batted out of the air[legally]

  14. I'll be going up to Grand Forks sometime in the late afternoon for the championship game, and hopefully some of the prior game. I'll again be posting updates live from rinkside tonight for all those in parts of the state without radio coverage. :D

I did hear last night that WDAY will not be carrying the RR/South game due to the Bison bouncyball game but it should be on the GF station.

  15. Yes, RR/South is the EDC championship game. South and Red River will be the No. 1 and 2 seeds from the east, depending upon the outcome of the game. The winner of Grafton/West Fargo will be No. 3 and the winner of North/Central will be No. 4. At State, the pairings should be:

    No. 1 east v. No. 4 west

    No. 3 east v. No. 2 west

    No. 2 east v. no. 3 west

    No. 4 east v. no. 1 west

Red River and South will be in opposite brackets. Assuming Minot wins the west, they will be in the bracket of No. 2 east. Whoever wins the east will likely end up with Grafton in their bracket.

One possible outcome is if both North and Grafton win today, North would be the third seed from the east because they beat Gtafton ealier in the tournament, even though GPR was the higher seed coming in.

  16. That's what I said...Just not as clear as you put it.

No you didnt. You said that they go to a 15 min overtime first then followed by an 8 min overtime. Its the other way around. And then they get the 3 min break between the end of regulation and the first overtime. You said they get the break between the two overtimes.
