  1. South and Bismarck play tonight in Fargo. Any predictions? South is coming off a tough loss to Moorhead last night. Is a letdown in store? Hillman played very well last year against South. Everybody seems to bring their "A" game against South, but I think South rebounds tonight and should handle Bismarck fairly easily. I will go with a 6-1 score.

  2. Posts like this spit on all the hard work great individuals like Jeff Gustafson do to try and get these up and coming programs competetive, and try to get more kids interested in playing hockey....

Just worry about Red River, or whoever it is you care about. Let these teams worry about continuing to grow their programs.

    AMEN!

  3. I doubt that Dean Wilson would be risking anything early in a game - by not played his top two lines on the penalty kill. Typically he runs his top dogs as often and as long as he can.

You're probably right. He only uses the top two lines for specialty teams, so I was mistaken with the powerplay goal. Sorry.

  4. Regarding the South/North game tonight South rolls to another win 9-3 as noted earlier. My initial question before the game was - Will North score in this game? I would not have expected 3 goals against the goalie that most people consider the best in the state. It was a game of penalties which seems to be the continual theme this season. South scored two early in the first period on a 5 on 3 and then 5 on 4. Credit North for getting back into it 2-1 but South answered back maybe within 10-20 seconds to make it 3-1. Not sure how it went from there exactly although the score was 4-2 and then 4-3 before South jumped out to a 6-3 lead. As noted earlier, the 5 minute major against South resulted in 2 short handed goals being scored against North. With their depth problems it was difficult to keep a consistent attack against south even with a man advantage. South has very good speed and some excellent size. North does not have the personnel to match South but put up a good game for two periods. I am not sure that it is at all accurate to say that South dominated the game - especially with three goals against them in two periods. Clearly, they have a very nice team again and, as expected, they won.

If I remember correctly, North's first 2 goals came from their first line against South's third. It didn't appear south was trying to match lines, even though they had the last change. Since North's first line is easily their most dangerous, one would think South would concentrate on shutting them down. Just a thought.

  5. South dominated the game and they also had a lot of break-aways. North had no defense and really struggled between the pipes. Logan Doeden for south got ejected for a "checking from behind" penalty. The north player was lucky he didn't get hurt. Good call by the refs. South scored two goals while on that penalty kill. They were tons of odd man rushes. The only offense north had was their first line, scoring two of the goals. North started out ok with two quick goals answering right back from souths early lead, but south was quick to shut them down. Who had all the goals tonight? Anyone?

Graalum[sp?] had a hat trick. Other than that I'm not sure. I thought checking from behind was 2 and 10. Why did he get ejected?

  6. I don't know for sure which of these players will try out for Team ND but here are some I think might, that you may or may not have heard of.

    Marc Mihulka- Red River

    Andy Peterson- Grafton

    Ross Monson- Bismarck

    Justin Welk- Fargo North

    Grant Larson- Fargo South

Paul Weisgarber (eligibility with the Jets?)- Fargo South

    Tyler Jundt- Williston

    Jon Greicar (sp?)- Central

    Clark Dingman- Bismarck

    Adam Campell- Fargo South

    Justin Connell- Bismarck

    Marc Harrie- Fargo Shanley

    Jordan Weir- Fargo Shanley

    Greg Slominski- Central

    David Spies- Red River

    Eli Rosendahl- Red River

    Nick Klenow- Fargo North

    Andy Dittus- Minot

    Todd Bustad- Williston

Again, those are merely speculative and just players I think may try out for the team based on nothing but an educated guess. I would have put both of the Campells from Grafton on there but it sounds as if they do not intend to persue hockey after high school. Tough break for Team ND if you ask me.

It's my understanding once a player commits to a junior team, they can't play for team ND. They prefer to have only kids who haven't committed to any place since its mainly an exposure type of tournament. This would exclude both Weisgarber and Galt from South

  7. The official who made that terrible call was Eslinger. I agree that was one of the worst calls I have ever seen. I usually don't gripe about the officials, but that was inexcusable. I hope who ever is in charge of the officials in this state take alook at that and at least reprimand him. I certainly hope he doesn't work anymore games in this tournament.

  8. Well, the fact is that it is a documented cheap shot and his coach could have benched him for a period to reinforce the need for self-control. Stars9 - the information that I provide is based on fact and is reliable - I never said that the kid did not play. The point of Top Shelf's comment is that sportsmanship is important along with playing ability. I don't think anyone who cares about the sport wants to promote goon behavior.

And I trust your information and I agree 100% with that last statement
