  1. Golf and fishing are my favs, although there's nothing like watching a good baseball game.
  2. I'm not a fan of arena football, but a lot of people will watch it in any way, shape, or form.

    Division I

Yeah I know. It's just frustrating considering how underfunded salaries and some departments are. It's a good thing it was a mild winter or we'd be looking at 12-15% increase
  4. You make some good points, but NDSU is going to have a much better shot at a lot of local talent if they decide to recruit them. Maybe not with women's bball right now, because of how competitive they are right now, but overall I think most kids would want to try at competing at the highest level they can. Like bin said, it's not about competing with big institutions as it is like institutions. I've been cautious about DII vs. DI in the past, but I think it's time to join our peers.

While I'm sure there are some in the student body that would push for raising fees just because being DI is something they'd believe in, I don't think many students are happy with the rate tuition has gone up the last few years (a 9% increase just for heating?!). My guess is student body would raise fees, but only slightly ($25-50).
  6. Even though most people associate the Wolverine helmets with football, I'm always surprised how much I like them out on the rink--especially matched with their classy uniforms!
  7. Does anyone else find these remarks foolish? I can't imagine trying to start up a conference "something that's not going to be tough," or getting into a conference much easier. Granted, officials are going to put an optimistic view out there or might know more than we do, but those remarks seem a bit much considering NDSU's situation so far.
  8. Any idea how much of a profit comes from lax? Edit: *note to self: read posts carefully before making dumba** replies * P.S. you guys are already planning to expand your lacrosse stadium? Sounds like it's taking off alright. Sweet.
  9. I wonder if they will set a date for their surveys? The end of the school year is fast approaching...
  10. A childhood role model for me growing up. He was the best. RIP
  11. Tough, tough year. Hopefully the program can get out of it's jinx next year and at least compete more, even if the record is similar. Recruiting has to be addressed though.
  12. I'd much rather he'd step down on his own terms than forced out, but firing may be necessary, especially if DI is on the horizon.
  13. I find it a bit interesting how adding seats to the Alerus is specifically mentioned. For sake of purely aestetics it would be nice to have seating on the ends of the field, but it doesn't seem like big need right now looking at our current attendance. Although I wouldn't mind having a bigger house for us to grow into. Seems like practice facilities, soccer, and swimming/diving need upgrades more than football. Perhaps there is more going on behind the scenes?
  14. I'm all for the growth of hockey at any level. Given time the Bison could compete with everyone besides the Sioux and Gophers. The biggest problem (besides the usual suspects like funding, an arena, ect.) is the appearent lack of puckheads in Fargo. I agree that Omaha isn't the best comparison becuase it has long had a visible hockey crowd (look at how their minor league hockey is supported). I think the Bison label could convert some casual sports fans to hockey more than a minor league team ever could. Looks like the people of Fargo aren't willing to give it a shot though .
  15. Good, I'm glad to see both sides are being reasonable and at least trying to come to an agreement. While the university has does have some great native american programs, I think UND hasn't done it's best in developing a real relationship with the tribes, a la Florida State. The new ideas sounds good in raising cultural awareness, regardless of what happens to the logo.
  16. I was disappointed last night when I wasn't going to be able to attend the games, but it looks like I would have been turned away anyhow . Regarding the Betty's seating, it seems to me I've seen it listed somewhere at 3300, which may be the real number if 3300 - empty seats= "sellout" of 3064. I think if UND moved up, we would have the smallest gym in DI . While we can moves game to the Ralph, maybe in hindsight it would have been more practical to have built the Betty with more seating . So, exactly how expensive would adding seating be?
  17. The idea of DII-A and DII-AA might work if they are enough schools that would support the upper division. I'm not sure about the regional stuff though.
  18. Regard a BTHC: Keep in mind the U of MN fans probably would be against breaking the Sioux/Gopher rivalry as much as we would. I think the schools would only leave their respective conferences if there were at least 8 or 9 schools with hockey. IMHO, Penn St. alone probably wouldn't do it, but thrown in Iowa and Illinois...
  19. You're probably right, big schools have the advantage in $$. NDSU might be an exception however, since hockey has been hanging overhead forever there. Once they get situated with their current sports that is.
  20. Wow, Big Sky with hockey?! There's one I've never heard of before! I think that's little too far-fetched right now though. Gonzaga even more. But we can dream, right? Actually I think DI NCC with hockey is more likely to happen than a big sky hockey conference. Not that I think a DI NCC will or even should happen (I think it would be detrimental for many involved) just (somewhat) more likely.
  21. My vote has to go to NDSU, for obvious reasons. It would be sweet if DI hockey expanded to Iowa or some of the PAC-10 schools, but I'd rather convert the Bison first . Of course, if it were up to me I'd have them ALL start DI hockey !! Even at the expense of Big Ten hockey .
  22. Just Curious, has there been any new developments in the push for SU hockey? I know there is a considerable group that has pushed the issue for what seems like forever, but is there anything noteworthy that has occurred recently that makes you think it will look at it again (besides the club doing well)?
  23. Now I'm not a big hoops guy, but I think some people are being a little too hard on NDSU women's bb squad. Yes, it probably has taken a couple steps back during the transition, but an 8-9 record so far in their first year of (mostly) DI competition is hardly aweful.
  24. NDSU's team was impressive even before this shocker. Got to hand it to them for landing Woodside. The coaches are doing a heck of a job down there too. Hopefully this will generate more interest in the team. Could this fallicitate more DI discussion among UND alumni? It seems inevitable now for SU BB to be getting more and more attention over UND, regardless of the quality of teams we're fielding. You know how competitive alumni get in appearing superior over our rival... Congrats to NDSU for a well-earned victory. I'll be disappointed if ya lose any more games to the likes of Utah Valley State .
