  1. All you did was just list off their top scorers, the games I have watched (which were both RR games, the GFC game, Moorehead, WBL, and the Crookston game) none of those players at all impressed me.

McDougall was the second best player on the ice behind Jordy Christian when they played Moorhead. I don't know if Graalum should be in that category but Doeden, McDougall and Powers for sure. And wouldn't it make sense that the most skilled players on the team have the most points?

  2. I disagree about McDougall. yes he is a good individual hockey player, I don't doubt that for a second, but very rarely have I seen him pass the puck in the offensive zone to someone in a better scoring position. I know he has quite a few assists this year and he assisted on both of the goals last night, but most of his assists are second assists from making a break out pass or winning a faceoff. His first assist last night was by winning the faceoff and his second was a very good pass from the defensive zone to Hooey. very rarely will he pass the puck in the offensive zone, but instead he will try to be a one-man show.

I completely agree with you on how he should move the puck when someone has a better opportunity to score, but their whole first line has the same problem. I've seen him set up goals with some great passes but he would be even more of a threat if he used his linemates a little bit more. There's no doubt in my mind that the kid can flat out play and i think he deserves more recognition. He's one hell of a penalty killer too. Plus he's one of the best at winning faceoffs i've seen in awhile.

  3. I'll try and answer your question to why South switched up the lines. If Coach Wilsons statement in the Fargo Forum and the way South played last night (selfish) had anything to do with it, I'd say it was because they were not moving the puck. It looked like South held on to the puck to long and by the time they decided to shoot they were in so tight on the defender that the shot would either miss the net completely or the Red River defenseman would deflect the puck into the corner. Even when the obvious play was to make a pass, South did not execute. Agreed, for the most part Red Rivers defenseman in general were far more composed with the puck in the defensive zone and broke the puck out much smoother. Red Rivers intensity in the offensive zone could be some of the reason for that urgency by South, however. Maybe too much credit is being given to South and especially there first line. I for one was an advocate that they maybe had the best line in the state. After watching them play sluggish last night, I'm starting to second guess myself. McDougall looked uninterested in playing physical at times, and Ian Powers looked like he was skating with ankle weights. Again, that all could be a product of playing against guys that kept there feet moving for 17 minutes a period. Right now, even though South may not have played there top game, I'm going to have to say that if Grand Forks Red River can continue play at the level they did last night, they are going to be very difficult to beat come state tournement time.

I think Wilson hit it right on the nose about the play of his team. I don't think either team played all that well last night. Red Rivers defensemen played a pretty good game and South's were a little shaky. McDougall isn't a physical player in the first place because he doesnt have to be with the size of the team around him. He was the only player that really stood out to me for South as he set up both of their goals and was a threat for most of the game. Wurden's an exceptional defensemen but i think he logs too much ice time and started making mistakes because he was bagged. I think South was the more talented team but worked very poorly together. Although Red River may be less talented they used each other very well to break the puck out and to set up opportunities. As I said before, neither team played as well as they could and i would expect a much better game when they play eachother at purpur on a bigger sheet of ice. All in all, it was a good win for Red River and a good lessen for South that they can't just rely on their talent to win games.

    5T. Danny Wurden(FSH) D Sr. 11GP 8G 17A 25P

This top five is updated through all games played.

  6. I will go with Chad Demers..... :silly: or anyone from Grafton since I graduated from there.

Mr. Hockey is awarded to the best SENIOR in the state. It'd be kinda tough for Demers to win it unless hes planning on graduating 2 years early.

  7. it just states that if ur in the school for 90 days u can play Varsity so im guessing if he started at the beginning of the year yes he could be playing varsity!

You must sit out 90 school days from the day you change schools, so no he will not be able to play varsity hockey for Red River this year.

  8. I think what he ment is that he sees RR losing their next two games, first to Grafton, and then to Fargo South. I however, have to disagree with him, I see Red River continuing with their winning ways. The last few Red River games I have seen which were agaisnt middle of the pack EDC teams, Red River has yet to give up more than 1 or two quality scoring chances in each game. The chances that they do give up, Arnason has been there to shut the door. With the combination of great Defense, arguable the top line in the state (including the best forward in the state), and a very solid goalie in Pat Arnason, I dont see Red River losing to Grafton or Fargo South at this time. Both of these games should be fast paced, fun games to watch, but I see RR coming out on top. On a side note, I think the most improved player in the state so far this year would have to go to Pat Arnason. Maybe its just because he wasnt given much of a chance last year, but from what I have seen he is the best goalie in the state. He seems much more athletic this year and is always in position to make the save. He seems to be one of those goalies that makes every save look routine. The fact that he is 6'3" doesnt hurt either. I wouldnt be surprised to see junior teams after him following the season.

Red River should beat Grafton but will lose to South. South has too much talent.

  9. By the way Century hadmost of there varsity playing. But when I first brought up this topic I was not taking about Bottineau being a team going to state, only that they havea very good player in Herbel. I see others talking about the players in the state and feel the Herbel kid should be mentioned with the other good players in the state. If anyone has seen this kid play I would like your opinionon his chances of going to the next level.

I agree that Herbel is a pretty good player but his stats are misleading considering some of Bot's competition so far this year; Rivers Collegiate, Century JV, Bienfait, Central Butte, Morden.

  10. You have got to be kidding. You honestly think that what he did was not to be cocky and a show-off? What do you think his reason was? Is he God's gift to hockey, so he thinks that everyone must want an autographed puck from him?

Sit his ass on the bench for a game and see how much everyone misses him.

Thats just it though, if his coach did sit him for a game he wouldn't be missed at all. He has 2 points in 8 games playing in the west. He's a weak classless player on a weak team.

  11. I think North just made a statement. I'm hearing a lot about how many chances West Fargo had and did not capitalize, but did the same go for North as well? Could this game have been 6-2 or 7-2. I'd like to see what NDPride thinks. I've heard a lot about Kleins goal last night, and I was told he almost had a similar goal later in the game that hit a pipe? Is there any truth to this? Because right now it sounds like people are trying to make it sound like North got some lucky bounces and thats why the game was a three goal difference.

I don't think its much of a statement to beat WF.

  12. I dont care about there wins and losses, I think that you can not determine the best team in the state by non-conferences games like south against white bear or RR against egf. Yes, Fargo South's win against WBL looks impressive but they had 2 empty net goals and also WBL isn't as strong as they have been in the past. Now in the case of RR and EGF, i went to the game and RR could have easily won 8-2 but Alex Christenson played unbelievable as he usually does, also in a rivalry game EGF, GFC, and GFRR always play tight games. Now as far as Grafton, West fargo, and Fargo North, how do we know that RR wont blow out Grafton and North, and West Fargo is always a scrappy team so if i were South I wouldnt overlook them. But the only way we will know for sure is to wait for early january in Fargo. RR vs. FS , start making your travel plans its gonna be a good one.

You mean you played in the game. Another screen name we can add to the ever increasing list of Red River players on this site.
