  1. I missed the highlights of the game, but I heard that Marc Mihulka used a mythical move, one only heard about in stories of hockey games past. Called the Stop-O-Razi, Mihulka came down on a breakaway, deked one way, came to a complete stop, waited for the goalie to slide out of position, then calmly pushed the puck into the net. Anyone who has seen or been a receiver of the Stop-O-Razi know it is quite impossible to stop. Mihulka is definately one of the most talented players in the state, said by some to be less than a god, but more than a man. I know one thing for sure, I wouldn't want to be on the business end of a Stop-O-Razi.

I don't think anyone has ever said that.

  2. I thought you said a few weeks ago that you were through posting on this site (see post #179). You indicated that you were not the person listed as the screen name that you use. Something should be done about this because it is inappropriate for an individual to represent themself as a person that they are not.

He indicated he wasn't him, so how were they representing themself as someone?

  3. Just curious about you thinking that Century and Jamestown are the two worst teams in the state. I think you might be forgetting Bottineau or Wahpeton? Just curious as to if you forgot those teams or if you truly believe they are the two worst teams in the state?

25-4 the score century's opponents outscored them in the first 3 games of the year, (WF, Dickenson, Devils lake). on the other hand your right we should give them a break as those are 3 perenial powers.

  4. Anyone have any high school scores tonight? I guess West Fargo beat Jamestown 7-1 I think and Grafton beat Bismarck High 6-1, Central beat Farmington - was it 2 to 1. Any other scores out there?

I officially take back any previous comments about central being in the play-in game, also Wahpeton has a solid chance of making the edc playoffs with how poor Jamestown is this year. I can't wait to see the Bis century game and Jamestown, Those are in my opinion the two worst teams in the state.

  5. I attending the Grafton/North game. North really didn't put up much of a fight. It was 5-0 at the end of 2 periods. North only had 10 shots at that moment.. Kringstad looked pretty quick and solid on the few shots that he faced. The Campbell line looks really good with a lot of speed and great puck handleing and passing. Miller and Tanner Anderson also looked good on the second. Third line scored also and looked good. should be a good year for the Spoilers I think.

I attended the Grafton/North game also, Grafton definatly has some guns, I can't wait to see them agianst alittle stronger team.

  6. Great kid and great player. I know his parents and they are just a great family. This kid can catch the ball too. Speed and strenght are his question marks but they can always be improved.

Also, he's an amazing baseball player and has talk to the Gophers about playing baseball there.

Thanks jack, its people like you that make this site great.

  7. Minot beat Williston 9-4 last night out west. Looks like Minot is the clear favorite, for now, as the top team in the West. Should be an interesting day in the east tomorrow. I am sure there will be a lot of talk on this board after the South/RR game. I hope both teams play well and have quality refs.

wow, the west is down big time. The favorite out west loses to a team (central) that could very well finish eighth in the east region.

  8. Gratzek named second team all state as an offensive lineman by the Associated Press.

Another kid who made the all state team and who is apparently on UND's radar is Ty Boyle of International Falls. link

I think Gratzek would be a great fit with the sioux, What other schools is he looking at/ looking at him?

  9. I like when people make false assumptions about things they do not know. I have no association with Red River hockey and dont even know who hockeyrr is, which would make it foolish of me to "stand up for him". Sorry for voicing my opinion on what I saw, I thought thats what this forum was for.

You did stand up for him, thus calling yourself foolish.

  10. I was at the game and what I think hockeyrr was trying to say is that the Shanley player was not broken away from the defender. He did not have a clear path to the net and that is the reason he shouldnt have been awarded a penalty shot. I dont know where he came up with the "three step rule" however.

He was probably just an Extra/ JV player trying to voice his opinion.

  11. Boschee did not have UND #2 on his list. If a guy can go to Kansas and win Big 12 Freshman of the year honors, he could play at any program in the nation. Duke, UNC, Iowa, Michigan, Kentucky. If someone can go and play at a big time D-1 school he is not going to have UND on his list.

UND was not #2 with "Big John" because he went to Northern Iowa when he transferred. If UND was #2 why didn't he transfer back home?

I'd agree with you that UND didn't end up being his second choice, but to say jeff could have played in any program he choose is a stretch. Don't get me wrong Jeff's a great guy and a fantastic player, but Coach K and Dean Smith don't make to many trips to this neck of the woods. I think he was restricted to the mid-west teams.

  12. I heard that Anderson will probably end up at Minnesota..

I would be surprised if that was the case, As 1A football in ND doesn't gain that much exposure. Mason may go back to the well though , after seeing how well eslinger played thoughout his career.

  13. if you check with those two....I am sure you will find as absurd as it seems..Jeff's personal choices were #1 Kansas..#2 UND.....Big John same Thing as I know UND was in his Thoughts......ABSURD? maybe but we did have a chance...more so than alot others...

UND might have had the inside track on Jeff, but once Roy Williams the then Coach of Kansas expressed his interest in Jeff, they took the reins from UND. I would have to say it was the same story with Godfread. I don't think that it's a bad thing that they are sticking with the juco recruits, the talent level will be higher then the recruits they would land out of high school.

  14. Now I realize that he won't play noseguard, BUT who would have projected Mark Callahan as a noseguard? Or how about Ross Brennan? Both were pretty decent high school running backs. ;)

I'd like to maybe see him get some reps at defensive end if hes comfortable. That is if he doesn't pan out at linebacker.

  15. Well as far as Mr. Media is concerned, we'll see how he does not that the goophs are almost done with all the creampuffs for the year. Sorry there ca whatever the helk the rest of your name is but we'll see what happens when he plays against the "HEAVY HITTERS", and I mean that literally, of the league.

    This doesn't make any sense.

  16. Anderson would make a heck of a noseguard with about 35-40 pounds more on him. Or maybe TE? He's faster than Kleinsasser was at that age and already bigger. With his speed, would he be better suited on offense carrying the ball, or on defense hawking it?

Gratzek looks to be born to play middle linebacker.

Great question. Hopefully it isn't an either/or situation. At least it shouldn't be. Would imagine both of these guys may get real serious looks at higher levels than UND after most recent performances. TV guys couldn't stop talking about Gratzek yesterday. And Anderson's senior year was incredible, minus the title game of course.

If indeed it comes down to being an either/or situation, it will likely be because one of them ended up at a higher level.

I think anderson would be a solid fit at the linebacker spot after a year of redshirting/ I think they'll also try get him a few short yardage touches.

  17. South choked, something they are pretty good at. Every year all we hear is South South South. Every year in the championhip, it is Grand Forks, Grand Forks, Grand Forks. This year will be no different.

Both GF teams Struggle with Shanely.

-Central loses in O.T I knew they'd be down but ouch!

-Red river surrenders 34 shots and 3 goals.

Looks like another all GF final agian this year.

  18. I witnessed the game. Both teams were inexperianced with no real game plan. They both did the typical Wahp breakout plan of attempting to ice it with a cherry picker up high. Kelvin Shane did not have a lot of Defensive help otu there, but then again he didn't last year either. I tihnk South has th ebest set of D in the state. Which is goign to determine a lot fo the games this season. It was a game with numerous penalties and it was hard fought. Central at first had puck play most of the game until the third period. They were up 3-0 at one point. Penalties killed opportunites for both teams last night. I see Central getting better this season and being competitive as always at the end of the eyar. Shanley with such a young tema and coaching staff will not fair as well. However, thsoe 4-point games can kill a team's record.

Interesting scenario: If GFC doesn't beat either North or Jamestown 2 of those 4 games and drops one to West fargo, GFC will be hosting the play-in game. Central fans mark your calanders for tuesday december 13th, this game vs. West fargo could break their season.

    9th place wahpeton- 0 points

8th place central- 8 points ( wahpeton 4points, jamestown 2 points, West fargo 2 points)

    7th place shanely - 8 points wins tie-breaker ( GFC 4 points, Wahpeton 4 points)

6th place west fargo- 10 points (wahpeton 4 points, Shanely 4 points , GFC 2 points)

This scenario doesn't seem that unrealistic to me, anyone else have opinions?

  19. The population thing was in regardes to why Fargo has more players on the Select team than GF. A bigger city is obviously going to have more players from there on the select team. Hence your point you were trying to make is mute.

You want to know another variable besides chemistry?

Coaching...another thing both RR and Central (at least with Howard) thrive at.

Maybe you can come up with some on your own now and realize talent doesn't win championships, so go ahead and name off those talented players year after year that South gets, but haven't turned into to many championship teams.

I think the word you wanted was moot. And it wasn't a moot point, Gf has had as many kids come out for hockey in every year i can remember.

  20. Success in the past is an indicator of the future my friend.

The majority of those players come out of Fargo because they have a greater population...umm duh.

With all those great players you would have thought South would have won more hockey championships than one in how many years.

Good thing good players don't make a great team.

Chemistry and a bunch of other variables make a great championship team. And as of now the Fargo Schools seem to be lacking.

Its HS hockey. They are kids. You could essentially return a core of awesome players and still go nowhere.

  21. Wondering if anyone knew how many RR varsity hockey players were involved in this past weekends party raids? I heard from numerous people that as many as 6 were charged with minor in possession, the # depending upon who makes the big team.

I heard that, 5-6 Red River hockey players got caught at a party where there was alcohol, and that the A-D is looking into the matter to see what the appropriate suspensions will be. Someone threw out names but this was just thier speculation that jake brown, david hovet, matt marchel might have been involved. So it looks to me that if this is true, they only lost role players no one that will make an impact this year.

  22. You feel like you're talking to a ten year old? Well this ten year old knows a helluva lot more about hockey than you do. What is the specific instance you are talking about? I'm not doubting that it happend, I just don't recall the last state championship game in overtime. If you are talking about the Red River-Fargo North 5 OT game, the Riders deserved to win that one because they had outplayed North the entire night. Regardless, that one miscall was an isolated incident in which a team was unlucky with the outcome of the call. But the official didn't score the game winning goal. Is it playing a part in the outcome? Yes, but the team still had a chance to score; they didn't lose the game at that specific point. However, you can't tell me that the team wasn't helped during the course of the season by an official making the incorrect call that went in their favor. Human error is part of the game. However, officials make the correct call about 98% of the time. THE OFFICIALS DO NOT DECIDE GAMES!!! Do you ever hear players after games blaming officials directly for the loss? Never. But you do hear fans complain because they need somewhere to place the blame. The players know that even with the bad calls, they still have the chance to win the game.

Your right, they should have had to score twice.
