  1. Jamestown would only be hard to play at if you are from Wahpeton. It's humorous to say that the 2nd worst team in the edc year in and year out would be the hardest place to play. Oh, but they do have a killer sax player, which does make it real tough to come out with a W, you damn fool.

I believe it was what rink is tough to play in. that would have nothing to do with the team they are playing. But thanks deb for your incitful imput.

  2. This brings up an intriguing point. What happened to the crowds at Grand Forks high school hockey games? If it's not Red River-Central does nobody seem to care? Granted they always draw well around state tournament time, but the regular season crowds obviously have diminished. I remember in back in my hayday the crowds at Purpur were raucous all night. It used to be a fun building to play in and to watch a game. It seems like after the renovation the life just got sucked out of it. And finally what does everyone think is the toughest environment east or west to play in? I would assume Grafton would have to be near the top of the list.

Yea back when I played, purpur was always full when we came down. I think this is maybe a testament to the kids, maybe they are too aragent and the people at school choose not to support them, thats what happend with our bball teams back in the day. I am wondering if the state tournament were to be held in a different city if ANY of thier fellow students would even make the trip.

Its been a while since i've played but, one rink that was always tough was jamestown. They had a solid pep band, and most of the time very questionable officiating.

  3. I too saw Kringstad's obscene gesture, and what I found worst about it was they were down 3-0. Maybe this kid needs to get his head in the game and stop acting like Marcus Vick by cocking off when his team is down 3 goals.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the game, I did not see this gesture or any Red river kids in the student section. You'd figure a top teir program such as Red river would be able to festure up more then 13 kids to sit in the student section.

  4. Hey dumb-#$$ that is the beauty of this web-site - you don't have to read what you don't want to. Let's not resort to calling people putzs and morons.

Can't say I was surprised to read such an intelligent post from SFsioux, You lead out with Hey dumb-#$$, then follow by telling me not to call people names. I think it's safe to say that you owe everyone on here an apology, for subjecting us to your stupidity.

But lets get back on track..... I'm really looking forward to the Red river VS. Grafton game, hopefully i can make it down. One of my employees sons plays on the team and the way he was talking he felt the game could go either way and that it would probably go down to the wire. I guess we will find out tommorow if he was right.

  5. I cant wait until South goes down in that state tourney, all of you Fargo people will be crying, "I thought that was the year for us."

I am agian having trouble understanding this.... DaveK comes on and says it looks like south is turning a corner..... Then some putz comes on and starts talking about the Grand forks peewee and bantam teams...... Dave comes back and says well they've gotten 2nd, 3rd and now are once agian a top team in the state..... Then another moron comes on and lists the past champions and groups the two grandforks teams into a catagory.... Then hockeyman25 enlightens us all with his last pathetic comment.

  6. You my friend need to seriously need to take another look around. You are barely worth this post. Talk is cheap and you do a lot of it.

You back up nothing of what you speak with facts. You claimed South would win a championship last year cause once again they were "the best" and the '80s" dominance of GF was over, but I came back and proved FACTS that it was indeed not over blah blah blah the dominance is shifting blah blah blah anything to prove that? blah blah blah.....I will predict right now South will win the championship  . People who cheer for the Grand Forks teams know how to win and are use to it, but they don't brag about how good their regular season is like certain people and teams. They are also smart enough to know anyone could win in the state tournament.

I will once again bring up your favorite Fact:

    1995 - Grand Forks

    1996 - Grand Forks

    1997 - Grand Forks

    1998 - Grand Forks

    1999 - South

    2000 - Grand Forks

    2001 - Grand Forks

    2002 - Grafton

    2003 - Grand Forks

    2004 - Grand Forks

    2005 - Grand Forks

I'm curious as to why you listed Red river and Central as "Grand Forks" instead of their respective names? I don't think that it is fair to compare Grand forks as a whole to other indiviual teams.

Side note- I believe GF's 80's dominance ended when north won it's 3rd title in 6 years.

  7. Fargo South has an above average team this year and Moorhead is rebuilding (still good but rebuilding). South barely beats them and all of a sudden people think that the balance of power is shifting to ND.

As far as having guts, GF Central and RR have been playing Warroad forever. If I remember right, in 02-03 GF Central beat Warroad. It was one of only two losses on the year for Warroad, who did win the state title that year. Even with the victory, GF teams did not brag up the victory. That is the difference between GF teams and Fargo teams. GF teams are used to being winners and know how to handle success. Fargo teams are not used to winning and they get overconfident after one big win.

As far as youth teams in both cities, I ask everyone not to compare records. I am worried that we will have to start listening about someone's kid that plays on a Fargo Flyers mini mini mite team that always beats Grand Forks teams, not to mention any names.

Moorhead just took 2nd in the Gold division of the schwans cup, losing to the holy angles 3-2. I think it's safe to say that they reloaded fairly well.

  8. Ha ha ha ha, what? Dave, come on. Red River is (once again) a great team. Central is down, but they have won 2 of the past 3 state titles and are still looking like they could sneak into the state tourney. If we're going to start comparing high school teams to NFL teams, you missed one comparison. EVERY Fargo team = The Minnesota Vikings. They get everyone's hopes up during the regular season and make people think that THIS could be the year they win it, but they always end up disappearing come playoff time (Minot could also be included in this category).

It's absolutely rediculous to compare the GF teams to the 49ers and Cowboys. When's the last time either of those teams won the Super Bowl, 1996? And Red River and Central have combined to win the past 3 state titles, 5 of the past 6, 9 of 11...do you see where I'm going with this? Before we start comparing high school teams to NFL teams that haven't won anything in the past ten years, let's do a little research.

To say that "the days of GF dominance are over" is just plain wrong. Two of the top 5 or 6 defensemen in the state (Jarrett Galbreath and Ryan LaDoucer) are sophomores going to Red River. Red River has a deep, deep sophomore class that can only get better. Sure, Fargo teams can win state titles in the next 7 or 8 years (heck, maybe even THIS year) but to say that South will have a long run of titles is just plain ludacris.

When you reply to this post Dave, do me a favor and take off those brown and yellow shaded glasses.

Alittle off the subject but I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on kids not living within the city limits playing for either of the GF teams, I know its happened in the past i.e: manvel kids appearing on Central rosters.

I think with fargo opening up it's 5th highschool South, North, Shanely, Oak Grove( co-op with WF), and now this new highschool, it will agian be harder for Fargo schools (Talent disturbuted to 5 seperate teams) to compete with the likes of GF who has two schools and picks up stragglers from other little towns.

  9. If that's what you took from my post then... well, you missed the point.

As for my prediction, either way, there will be 5 goals or less scored in this game... both sides added together. And no, neither side will score all 5 goals. In fact, I can also predict that neither side will score 4 goals. We're looking at 3-2, 3-1, 2-1, 2-2 tie, 1-0. I would be VERY VERY surprised if there was a 3 goal lead for either team and equally surprised if there was a shutout, even if it is 1-0.

Whats your secret to predicting high school hockey games, you could make millions.

  10. Great post!!! Granted, Moorhead has had a lot of success over the past 15 years or so... but it does get more than a bit obnoxious how they're put up on such a pedestal while South gets virtually no recognition. I'm taking my boys to the game on Tuesday to hopefully see the Bruins shock the world.

I think it will be a great High school hockey game. If anyone is fortunate enough to be able to attend, could they write alittle bit about it on here. I am hoping to get down there but, one of my best workers is out with a bad back, so unless I can fill his spot I won't be able to leave the shop in time. ND Pride I would appreciate it if you could give me a summery. Also, I'll talk to the sports editor Dave Jurgens at our next alumini meeting, (if he shows that is).

  11. It's all about opinions. I can have that correct. Anyways I'm not going to get caught up in this, but in two or three years I'd be willing to bet if you go and look for high school players that have moved on to Jr. A or the college level you'll find Tyler Kleins name.

Great players rise to the top no matter what team or line they are? I think we can all agree that Mark Messier is a great player? In his first few season's playing pro (WHL) his numbers were hardly impressive. Then even when he moved up to the Edmonton Oilers early in his first season he was sent back down to the minors. Even the best players go over some rough water. You cannot play to your full potential without players around you that will help compliment your play.

In any case, I think there are some USHL scouts that will back me if I could just get them to post.

The league that merged with the NHL was the WHA not WHL. Also, Nick Klenow and Seth Fischer are his linemates both very able body atheletes. He should be producing if he is a decent player.

  12. It's a little early to say who will be all state/ won't be all state, will be Mr. Hockey, won't be Mr. Hockey. For example, the most talented player in the state (Tyler Klein), hardly gets any recognition because of the fact that he plays for Fargo North, a struggeling (to say the least) team. Say what you want but if you put him on a Grafton or Fargo South and he would be leading the state in scoring no question. In my humble opinion the favorite to win Mr. Hockey has to be Paul Weisgarber. Not only because he is a model hockey player on the ice, but also off the ice. Paul has the skill, the grades, and the respect of every coach in the state.

On the Klenow winning Mr. Hockey, come on. I don't think its reasonable to believe he has a legitimate shot at winning Mr. Hockey. He's going to have a difficult time making all conference (Not that he doesn't deserve it but he's in the shadow of up and coming Jr. Tyler Klein, and with North low in the conference they will probably only get one All Conference pick which will go to Klein.) However, Coach Erickson may have a shot at the coach of the year honor depending on how his teams turns twords the second half of the season.

"Your most talented player in the state" ripped wahpeton for two points. Also, there is kind of this unwritten rule between the coaches, that players with 3 points going into their christmas tournament don't get considered for all Conference.

  13. That is a great question to pose and a very difficult one to answer. Your comment about Jamestown is a good one and it will be interesting to see how they can do in January. I think Shanley has some good coaching and may continue to to create problems for teams in the middle of the pack. Central has good potential and I really like what I see from Red River. I think Red River has probably done the most to fill in the gaps from last year's graduating seniors. North is due for a turn-around but it is one thing to hope for it and another to actually get the job done. Good luck to all the kids I hope all of the teams reach their potential and have play their "A" game during the holiday tournaments.

I'll hopefully get some updates from my nephew of how their doing down in the Blake tourney, if I do I'll post them.

  14. Enough of this BS. Who does everyone see improving the most over the second part of the season? Personally I think Jamestown may come around and start clicking, riding the momentum of their big upset. I also think Fargo North eventually has to start getting some goals to go in. Anybody else see any big improvers or teams falling apart down the stretch?

I really hope North can come around, my nephew plays on the team and he was up here for christmas and he likes what hes seen in past few practices. He told me that they are getting back to the basics: Skating, shooting , stickhandling. He also mentioned that the upper-classmen are really stepping up and becoming the leaders that they need to be. I think north can be a team that can take a game from anyone on any given night, they just need to find some consistency. Also I ran into a few of the spoiler players at the local store and they arn't letting that lose get them down.

  15. No it does statisically support my answer your telling me that in every section of MN hockey they have 600,000 people give me a break buddy, you are getting all worked up about nothing. Chill out. Anyone can talk about anything on these threads.

Since Minnesota has a population of 4.9 million people and eight sections, each section would have about 612,500 people. Personally I find your posts humorous, as I picture you as 13 year old kid pecking away your keyboard.

  16. Yes. The saves were 46-19, so Grothman apparently played well. Amazingly, Jamestown's best player, Zach Welding, did not even have a goal.

I think North has just taken over the riens in the fight for hosting the play-in game. They may be doing this intentionaly as that is the only team they have success agianst, and want that extra game to pad their stats.

  17. They played Bismarck High's JV team though to a 4-3 game. From what I hear only one or two varsity players played that game, so I guess you can take that score for what it's worth. Also off topic, but to NDPride if you get to the BHS south game could you give a good game summary and if anybody from BHS looks good other then the 3 you mentioned. I have only seen them play once this year so I couldn't really tell at all who were their main players. I was just curious so I know who to watch for when BHS plays Century on Thursday.

I'll probably have to close the factory early and send everyone home so I can get down to the game.

  18. Well, his team is struggling this year and most likely will next year. Tough problem for some players if they cannot get enough support to show all of their skills. I have heard no confirmation of any possibility of a transfer even if he does not try the junior route early. Best thing is to try and focus on being as successful as possible during the season at hand.

Nice job by West Fargo the other night. That sure throws the middle of the EDC pack into perhaps even more confusion. Should be interesting to see which teams rise up within that second tier behind South, Red River and Grafton.

I think it's a pretty safe bet on him playing high school next year. I would be very surprised if he were to be picked up by a junior team.
