  1. I never realized the empty student section was in all four corners of the Alerus. Enrollment numbers? I did not know undergrad students include grad students and faculty. I guess you just throw them into the undergrad numbers, while counting them again as faculty and grad students. I suppose higher math skills aren't a requisite for a school in a city that can't count their population properly, either.
  2. Freebies? Would that be like a certain university giving away free tickets to everyone at the Grand Forks Air Base, Guard and Reserve units in the area(including Fargo),all their immediate families, and still not having a sellout? Here's what I saw at last year's UND v. PSU game last year: sections 201,209,210, and 218 were completely empty. Sections 202,208,211, and 217 were on average half-full. How that amounted to 10,000 I will never know. Must have been the same people that count UND's enrollment numbers .
  3. Any sort of "corporate" counting was probably learned from UND's student enrollment numbers . A few empty blue seats here and there can be accounted for, people have to answer nature's call and may want something to eat. When NOBODY is sitting in the the four corner sections and the sections next to those are only half full in the game against Pitt. St., that's another story.
  4. Would those be sellouts like UND's playoff games last year with a few thousand empty seats? I counted over 19,000 on saturday.
  5. Sicatoka, Here you go: CSL Report from NDSU Website btw- Sioux Falls and Fargo have nearly the same size metro area, actually Fargo is larger, 174,000 v. 172,000. NDSU also has a much higher concentration of the populous within 25 miles than SDSU(i.e. primary market). I know you already were schooled about this on the Bisonvile board, but I thought I'd throw it out there for everyone else.
  6. I agree that the NC$$ loves the bucks, but they drop the ball on other money making opportunities, such as bidding for the D2 football championship and playoff games.
  7. IF, and I mean IF the NCAA opens the D2 championship up to bids, the Alerus could possibly host. The NCAA historically does not make sound fiscal decisions.
  8. UPDATE: NCAA game receives boost: Area governments, businesses step forward to help
  9. Jim, If UND's "bubble" is anything like the "bubble" NDSU has been talking of putting over Dacotah Field, it's like the roof at the Metrodome. Imagine the Sports Bubble in Fargo only larger. I've seen a lot of NFL teams use these sort of facilities in their camps.
  10. Women's equestrian may be a possible addition to counter the added scholarships for football. NDSU cannot cut any sports, as they have the minimum required for D1 right now(men's and women's).
  11. The Sicatoka, I just can't resist. Doctors are obviously the only people allowed to carry a stethoscope, huh? Nurses never could, because NDSU has a Nursing program. Someone in a Pre-Med program would never wear one either, because NDSU has one of those-LINK. The following paragraph should be noted from the above link: Pre-Professional and Medically Allied Programs Fact Sheet College of Science and Mathematics If you wish to become a physician, an optometrist, a dentist, a podiatrist, a chiropractor or an osteopath, this fact sheet may answer some of your questions about allied health programs available at North Dakota State University. The Program Pre-professional programs usually consist of four years of college. This is followed by four additional years in a professional school. While state-supported professional schools usually admit very few nonresidents, a resident of Minnesota attending NDSU and applying to the University of Minnesota Medical School will be given the same consideration as a Minnesota resident who has received a pre-medical education in Minnesota. Similarly, North Dakota residents are given equal priority by the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine regardless of graduation from NDSU, UND, or any other university of equal standing Wow, who is the one suffering from insecurity?
  12. I just believe it would be better for NDSU to join an established conference. A team from a brand new conference will have a harder time making the postseason than a brand new team in an established conference. Nobody will give a new, untested conference much respect until they establish a tradition (or re-establish in the case of the NCC). There was a lot of controversy with Winona's playoff berth last year, and I think there would be a parallel to a new D1AA conference. There has also been talk of the BB ineligibility being reduced to 8 years, but new conferences would remain at 13. My ideal situation would be NDSU, UNC, SDSU(?), UND(?) to join the Big Sky, with two divisions in the conference. On a semi-related note on respect: The Montana Grizzlies fans showed absolutely none for UNC. I saw some of their comments after the game, and the only decent comment they had about UNC was "their defense was OK-nothing great, just OK". They all thought Montana had a terrible game and should have been winning 35-0 at the half.
  13. I was speaking about the NSIC in the football sense. There was quite a "controversy" about WSU getting into the playoffs at the expense of a second MIAA team. That was what my reference to the NSIC was pointing towards. If, and that's a big IF, the "hypothetical D1AA NCC" was given a postseason spot, a lot of people would get upset. This problem would be avoided by schools moving up joining an established conference.
  14. I just heard the info for tomorrow. Steve Halstrom stated they(Wanless or Doug Fullerton) would have "strong advice for UND officials". Take that for what it's worth. Yeah, Wanless had stated before that NDSU would have to "prove" themselves before being accepted into a conference, and the Big Sky wasn't looking for new members. That's coming from the new AD of the bottom-feeder of the Big Sky. There has even been talk of Sac. State leaving the Big Sky. I can tell you guys have a high opinion of him. Anyhow, one quick note about the NCC moving up or reforming with some new members. As much as I'd like to see others from the NCC move up, I don't think that would be the best scenario. Postseason play(once eligible) would suffer from the "new kid syndrome". To put it another way, the NCC(or whatever it would be called) would be the NSIC of D1.
  15. I just wanted to inform everyone that there will be an interview with the commish of the Big Sky and Terry Wanless (AD Sac. St.) tomorrow on WDAY's news @ 6 and 10. They said that there would be talk about UND, possibly Terry saying they should move up. If any of you Sioux fans live in Fargo, or can listen to 970, you might want to hear whatever they have to say. I don't know if it will be on WDAZ or not.
  16. UNC's D may be young, but they return eight starters from last year's second ranked (NCC- behind UND) defense.
  17. He claimed to be Ryan Bakken's (GF Herald) son.
  18. Clayton, You have to take JBB for what he is, a Bison fan that does not care for UND. He does have immense knowledge of NCC football, though. As for myself, first and foremost, I'm a Bison fan. If NDSU is not in the playoffs, I'll cheer for and support UND(made it to the PSU and UCD playoff games), followed by anyone from the NCC, then the Midwest region, after that, my interest is lost. Jim, I agree with you about the hockey issue. Fargo has the support for hockey, but not the facilities. Maybe if the Fargo Park District and Mr. Englestad could have come to terms, things would be different.
  19. Clayton, Don't you like to hear an opinion from a different perspective? We welcome other opinions on the boards at Bisonville.com and BisonInsider.com, but unfortunately until JimDahl started posting all UND opinions were a bunch of troll garbage. Here's an example: guess who waasted wiona last year? SIoux by the way- central washington is is d-1AA acording to d-1.com. also, y do u spend ur whole life on this site? siox have won more then 11 championchips they ahve won 4 or 5 gilrs b-ball 8 hockey 1 football 2 mens b-bnall Even if JBB is a little rough on UND, he doesn't post garbage like that here. Hey Jim, We even directed the Sioux fan quoted above to this site. You can thank us later.
  20. Sicatoka, That was a ONE TIME EVENT(i.e. big hoopla). If hockey could support that many fans on a continuous basis, they'd build arenas that big. That's still 30,000+ less than Michigan AVERAGES for FB.
  21. A couple random responses: The NDSU v. Maine game sold over 17,000 tickets with a week left. (quote)... its diffuclt to take "D1 Hockey" seriously as a D1 sport. I hope a Gopher, Badger, Wolverine, Spartan, or BC Eagles fan didn't hear that. "Shredded" would be the best you could hope for. (end quote) FOOTBALL ATTENDANCE: School games total att. avg. att. Minnesota 6 258,419 43,070 Wisconsin 7 545,983 77,998 Michigan 6 659,447 109,908 Michigan St. 6 442,292 73,715 Boston College 6 255,838 42,640 HOCKEY ATTENDANCE: School games total att. avg. att. Minnesota 18 172,122 9,562 Wisconsin 20 230,330 11,517 Michigan 21 134,365 6,398 Michigan St. 21 137,550 6,550 Boston College17 93,012 5,471 I'd say that they take football a little more seriously than hockey at the above mentioned schools.
  22. No, unless they have Cheetos on 'em!!
  23. I know JBB is rough on you guys, but at least you don't have to put up with stuff like this: All of u people think the bison rokc, i dont think so. Thier ranked nine in the midwest. GUess what the siouz are ranked? 1 the siouz r gonna kill the bison and everyone else in this stupid conference. THe sioux dont need to be d-1 becuase they dont need to prove they are better then the bison and lso, sioux have way more students in thier school guess who waasted wiona last year? SIoux by the way- central washington is is d-1AA acording to d-1.com. also, y do u spend ur whole life on this site? siox have won more then 11 championchips they ahve won 4 or 5 gilrs b-ball 8 hockey 1 football 2 mens b-bnall OO ya i just did check the stats 22 nationla titles by the mens swim team and 13 by the womens and also the men have a strek of 12 starght ncc championchips i didnt goto the agme today cuz it was sold out becuase UND sells out all of thier games plus-who has the best hockey rink in the nation? u got it UND UND UND Ur juts jealous of jim kliensasser cuz hes from UND and was drafted in the second round highest NCC player ever Here's the link where it came from:SuperSiouxFan Well, maybe you guys do have to put up with gopher fans
  24. NDSU is also utilizing a lot(at least for NDSU) three step drops and quick slants this year.
