  1. Good to see the team up their compete tonight...Gaber was way better tonight, thought he really played his game although he was getting a lot of attention from the Gofer D.  Blake continues to impress, he just finds a way to get around guys and to the net.  Gofer goalie was hot, stopped how many point blank chances?  BTW, our goalie is pretty damn good as well.

Gonna be fun to see this team after they get a few more games under their belt and get the power play ramped up.  And yes, stick salute is only for home sweeps.  C'mon! :)

Has anybody ever heard of Hack City?

I stumbled upon their show on YouTube.  Obviously I was searching and clicking on so much UND stuff that this popped up.  They do a rundown of the FCS, presumably every week, but this is the first time for me.  They talk about our game at the top of the show.

Thanks for posting this; very interesting.

March 3, 1979, at Williams Arena.  Last game of regular season. UND with a chance to end a 12-year drought in WCHA titles, but we needed a win after Rodents won Friday's game.   A dozen of my closest buds joined several hundred noisy Sioux fans in the old barn.  (True optimists, we bought tickets for this final weekend series back in October, expecting (hoping?) this series would be the decider.)

After Friday's game, a couple guys said that star freshman goalie Bob Iwabuchi (who had stood on his head for most of the season) looked tired, so it was only a little surprise that veteran senior Bill Stankoven started the deciding game.

Hostile environment? Heck yes.  We were called "communists" and a lot worse by the local fauna (apparently because we had Canadians? but perhaps wearing yellow helmets with red flashing lights helped us stay obvious).  On the plus side, sitting in the corner of old Williams Arena helped our non-stop chants and songs carry quite well.

On the ice, UND got some early goals, Stankoven played very well, and when Dave Christian blasted a slap shot into an empty Gophers net in the final minute, we were delirious.    Final score UND 4, UM 2. We stayed and cheered for a full hour after the game, and got high fives from players and staff.

Virg Foss captured the sentiment well in Sunday's GF Herald:  "Welcome back, Billy the Kid."

You just won the internet today!  Awesome!

If these two teams end up in the FF national championship game, you will see what the rivalry is.

Can’t stand their effin’ spelling bee cheer.  Better just shut them out so we don’t have to hear it.:)

This is not a hockey moment per se, but I remember about 30+ years ago when the Minny cheerleaders skated a sign that read "Minnesota:  America's Team".  The fans at the old Ralph were so enraged that they started throwing things at them.  The funny part was the next day on the news, when Pat Sweeney (if I remember right) put together a video segment on the sports news of that, and added in a clip from SNL:  "They pelted us with rocks and garbage"!

A lot of people down here in MPLS could care less.
Also, could you name every player on their current roster without looking it up (I'm guessing not)? Back when we played them every year, you could name every player and their mother on that roster. Again, the rivalry died when we stopped playing every year (Lucia even said it when they left for the B10) and the only people that are still pretending like its the same are the ones who keep B#*(*ing about the Fighting Hawks nickname.

Lucia was just butt-hurt from all the beatings they took from UND.

Happy for Tommy to get this win under his belt. It was certainly possible for him to own (and I mean REALLY own) all the quarterback records, but yet never beat NDSU. This win cements his legacy much more.

Also happy for Bubba. He maybe could have had a couple more shots at this victory before he hangs it up, but glad he doesn’t have to think about never beating them.

    wonderful day all around.

Sioux fan but not a big football guy...still, loved seeing UND beat the living shi+ out of the Bison! Happy for Bubba and the boys!
