It's gotta be a bit of a vacation destination.  Seattle is borderline for me.  Tampa during the winter would be fine.  But there needs to be an attraction other than just the game or you probably wouldn't draw more than 7-8000 tops.

I think going back to Vegas would be fine, against say a Michigan.

Another option would be New Orleans.  The Smoothie King arena was designed as a multi-purpose arena and supposedly seats nearly 17,000 for hockey.  Their ECHL team bailed from the arena due to a dispute with the Pelicans over reconfiguring the arena between basketball and hockey, but on a one time basis I'm sure it could be done.  Maybe a Mardi Gras destination game?

How long has it been since they had a hockey game at Smoothie King agena?  We do not want another situation like we had with the Target Center where it took them several years to get back into hockey arena mode and even then they didn't do a good job of it.

ASU-Denver looks like the VFW basement of college hockey rinks.

I watched the last 10 minutes of this game and the steel beams and ceiling look like they are covered with mold or dirt.  Absolutely filthy looking place, a biological hazard.

I’m in Kalamazoo. Drove to the rink just so I know where it is. Does anyone who has been here before know where the hell someone parks?

We were there several years ago.  It seems to me that we were parked very close to the arena, but I do not remember exactly where.  We arrived quite early for the game, before the doors opened and just followed the vehicles in the area.

Anyone have any insider tips on things to do in Kalamazoo? The main one I have seen is the Beer Exchange.

There is a great Air Force museum at the airport.  Of course, I am an Air Force veteran, but it was very enjoyable.

Assuming you are not talking about just being better at what they do, what two styles of play are entirely different?

The biggest difference to me is the area from which most shots are being taken.  The past two years it was from the point and UND was almost nonexistent in front of the net.  This year, we are having very few shots by defensemen at the point unless they are taken with someone near the net and the intent is to get a tip.  The focus of the offense is down in front of the net, not out at the point.  Second, we are seeing far more passes cross ice without sending it out the point, then across to the other point, and then down to the forward, and then repeat in the opposite direction.  It shortens the time the goalie has to move across the net front.  Third, the scoring is being led by forwards, not defensemen.  I like having defensemen score, but that should not be the emphasis of the team.

Stone age here.  You just flashed your student ID and walked in (hoping they wouldn't check under your coat or inside the sleeves).   Winter Sports Building and Ralph I.

    Don't know when that changed.

And if they did check under your coat and found something  you just went outside, changed coats, hats, and glasses with someone else and came right back in, lacking whatever you previously had under your coat of course.

For me its Madison when the skunk cousins have a quality team and following.

Great rival atmosphere without the Ms. Marriucci arrogance whilst not knowing what the blue stripey thingings are for.

The Madison fans i interact with have always known hockey, talked a little smack and then ate and drank in meriment together win or lose... always was a good time, and they appreciated the effort to attend the games there.

We were there for the latest Wisconsin series and had a great time.  Many Wisconsin fans thanked us for coming and mentioned that they miss playing UND every year.  They didn't talk quite that nicely about Gophers and their fans.

CC is still on my list. Any suggestions for things to do there, pregame, postgame, etc etc?

There is a restaurant/bar just north of the arena.  We would go there for supper and leave our vehicle parked there while we went to the game.  Thus we didn't have to pay for parking.  We would head downtown after the game.  Our son would take us to a small bar (I can't remember the name), but it was a Green Bay Packers fan place (He is a Packer Fan).

For things to do in the area, Garden of the Gods is good, you can go to the Air Force Academy and look at the aircraft there (especially the A-10 Warthog), drive up the mountain to Pike's Peak, and Cave of the Winds at Manitou Springs.  There is much more to look at, just do a search on the internet.

  9. Back in the day we made it a goal to get to every WCHA arena.  We were down to our last one, Alaska Anchorage, left to get to when the NCHC appeared.  We have been to every NCHC arena.  We had a good time at Kalamazoo (they have a great Air Force museum at the airport).  Their fans really get into it and the students have some great chants.  Miami has a nice arena, although a bit small.  The downtown Miami area was really crowded for parking after the game.  We actually stayed on the north end of Cincinnati and on Saturday headed to Dayton to tour the USAF museum.  We've been to CC and Denver many times.  Denver is usually 50% UND fans in the arena.  We still go to Duluth, Omaha, and the NCHC tournament every year.  We have been to every WCHA tournament since 2002 until the NCHC was formed and have been to every one of those tournaments.  The one trip that I miss from the WCHA days is Michigan Tech in Houghton.  That was always a good time.

You’re referring to the awkward silence after he makes me an offer and then waits for my reaction, right?

I was thinking it would be more like:

Berry thinking:  "What the heck am I doing?"

Mafiaman thinking:  "What the heck, another one of my so-called friends making a prank call!"
