  1. 3 different rental car outlets at the airport, so normally they have a good selection. That may depend on the weekend, as ScottM mentioned for hotels. Usually you can get a pretty decent rate unless they are going to sell out. The earlier you can pick a date the better deal you will probably get on both car and hotel.
  2. That's probably closer to mikejm's age. I know it's closer to my age.
  3. A point a game is pretty good in most leagues.
  4. He played with Salzburg EC in Austria this past year. His stats looked like this: Name Pos GP G A Pts PIM +/- Birthdate Age Birthplace Hght Wght Ryan Duncan F 68 33 36 69 42 21 1985-07-14 24 Calgary, ALTA 5.06 142
  5. If Southern Utah goes to the Big Sky and UND replaces them it would leave the conference with 5 football playing schools. They might want to do a feasibility study to see if they want to attract more football playing schools if they decide to go to 12 total. Or if their bylaws would require they become a football conference but they don't want to risk losing the XDSUs, or they aren't sure that the football conference would be financially viable, then doing a feasibility study now would give them time to change the bylaws so that they didn't have to become a football conference.
  6. UND can't use the logo without approval of the tribes. The NCAA policy and the settlement say no Native American names OR IMAGERY without approval of the relevant tribes. One school had to stop using a single feather as part of their logo, the full UND logo wouldn't come close to being approved.
  7. Native American nicknames are now an opt-in process, not an opt-out process. You don't need a tribe to be against it and complain to get rid of one, you need a tribe to say yes before you can have it. So if there are no Blackhawk tribes to approve then there is no way to have a Blackhawk nickname.
  8. Of course it is. He wouldn't waste his precious time and energy going directly to an internet forum to gloat.
  9. So what? Plenty of businesses in Grand Forks make a lot of money. You can't make an assumption based on a single comparison.
  10. The Standing Rock Tribal Council has spoken. They voted 10-4 to keep the nickname and logo retired. Neither petition was brought up at the meeting.
  11. I would guess that the liquids include a lot of barley, or other grain products.
  12. Just wanted to point out that the only way to get a definitive decision would be to get a vast majority of the population involved. But a vote either way would probably be a good indication of the feelings on the reservation. The people that wouldn't vote probably don't care, and the ones that do care could make the decision. And yes, a vote against the nickname would effectively end all chance of trying to keep the name.
  13. Even in your scenario there is plenty of room to argue if there are 6000 people eligible to vote. Only 1/3 of the population would be expressing their wishes in you scenario. The only way to get definitive judgment would be to make sure that every person eligible to vote actually votes. They don't ever come close and never will.
  14. Since the building in the picture is the Old Barn (not the Winter Sports Building, later known as the Engelstad Arena), and the banner reads NCAA Champions (think 1959) I will go with this explanation.
  15. Actually what matters is how much is it going to cost, what sports do they have to add, how many scholarships do they have to add and how are they going to pay for everything. The things you mention don't matter nearly as much as the dollar. When are you going to learn that everything in college sports is related to money. The WAC may like the thought of adding Montana, but the school has the final say and they may not be able to afford it.
  16. What excuses are you talking about? The state and the school have strong financial concerns. Changing conferences and moving programs up are more than just about the sport itself. This will be a major business decision for the University and for the state of Montana. If if doesn't make financial sense, which many people feel it does not, then the school won't try to move to the WAC at this time. And it doesn't matter what the conference wants because they aren't paying the bills for the University, the school will decide for itself what is best. You must get really bored if the most important thing you have to do is to try to pick a fight on an internet message board about something so minor. It's too bad that you don't have something more constructive to do with your time. I could try to help you find somewhere to volunteer if that would help fill your days.
  17. This isn't the same thing at all. In those cases they were listening to a prediction of what "would happen" and going along with it. These are people talking about what they believe "should happen" based on their knowledge of the situation. And in many cases it is against what they "would like to happen". The President of the school has come out and said it shouldn't happen. The AD of the school has said that he doesn't think it will happen. The state has financial problems. The school would have major issues to address to make it work. The majority of the fans realize that it probably can't work because the school and the state can't afford to make the move even though they would like to do it. But you are sure that some money guys are going to force it to happen.
  18. We have a new petition at Standing Rock. This one asks the tribal council to continue to follow the 1992 resolution asking UND to quit using the name. It was signed by 1,010 people (it looks like they wanted to make sure they had more than the other petition). Is this going to slow things down any further, if that's possible? Or will the tribal council just quit looking at the issue? Or maybe they will finally say 'Let the people make the decision'.
  19. A majority of the posters on egriz think it's a bad idea for Montana to move up because of the financial issues. But I guess you know more about the situation than the fans of the school. Oh wait, of course you do.
  20. KFGO isn't going to carry UND sports any more. They have switched teams, so UND moved all of their broadcasts to WDAY in Fargo. The flagship radio station for UND sports is 96.1 The Fox, a Clear Channel station out of Grand Forks. It is available on I Heart Radio, but I don't know if they stream the hockey games too.
  21. It might not take 90 days to verify enough signatures, so there might be a little more flex time. But yeah, it's getting close.
  22. To put it into even more perspective, they will probably have to give at least 60 days notice before any election. And they have talked about needing up to 90 days to verify the signatures before setting a date. 150 days is about 21 1/2 weeks. The tribal council would have to meet again after the election to vote up or down. Time is getting very tight.
  23. I'm sure that it was some "pro UND" legislator that mentioned the image problem.
  24. Trolling a little late in the evening aren't we? Trying to stir the pot a little? You must be bored tonight.
  25. With the money that the 64 schools would make for football and basketball contracts I think that they could afford to hire a few administrators to run their non-revenue sports. They can take it out of the big pot of money they don't have to share with the other 290 schools that currently belong to D I in some form or another. It probably isn't going to happen real soon, but is a definite possibility at some point in the future.
