You mean when people on this forum say things similar to what Dale Lennon, Chris Mussman and Dave Hakstol are saying? That the sanctions will cause severe damage to the school and the athletic department? Or when we recognize that major schools have already cancelled games with UND, and that recruits have already decided that they don't want to go to UND because they don't want to go to a school on sanctions? Your opinion is that the sanctions won't cause major issues for UND. People that actually deal with the program say that problems have already started, and the sanctions have barely started. They also say that the problems are going to get much worse. I will go with the FACTS that the coaches have talked about rather than the OPINIONS that you spout. Anyone that has read your posts know how much your opinions are worth.

I know the position he took during the construction, and the people I have talked to knew him during construction and after. He had a pretty good idea that he could get his way with UND and the state of North Dakota. But he also knew that if the NCAA got involved it would be a different story. My guess is that he would have worked hard to keep as much of the building as it is, but from my conversations I believe that he would have done what was needed for the school.

I will follow that up by saying the people I've talked to, while they knew Ralph pretty well, are not positive what his position would have been. They think they know, but they admit that they aren't positive. So I'm not sure how anyone that didn't know him could possibly know exactly what he would have said or done.

The people I've talked to don't think he would have done anything to damage the University. So, if he thought that fighting to the end was going to do damage, he probably wouldn't have done that. I was told that he predicted what the NCAA was going to do and even tried to figure out a way to help UND prepare for the issue. They either couldn't or wouldn't do what he recommended.

There are people that also knew Ralph that think he would look at the situation differently under the current conditions. He thanked UND for the education he received, and talked about how that helped him in his success. He very much loved the nickname, but he also loved the University and wouldn't want it damaged.

The Grand Forks Herald says that Shiloh beat Divide County 58-48. I haven't seen a score on the second game.

It might, depending on the angle taken in the piece. For instance, maybe they will also include interviews with opponents like Longie or Jesse Taken Alive or Tex Hall. Hall sure isn't afraid of a microphone.

So you will be voting against the University of North Dakota, against the student-athletes that make up the teams, against the coaches that lead those teams, and against the ability for those teams to compete effectively.

That's simple, as soon as the nickname and logo are gone UND can qualify to host playoffs. It isn't rocket science.

The law says that the intercollegiate athletic teams sponsored by the University of North Dakota shall be known as the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. It says nothing about what is on the uniforms. The school already has teams that don't use the nickname or logo.

UND doesn't have to forfeit playoff games. They won't be able to host playoff games. They can't wear the nickname or logo during the playoffs, and the NCAA won't use the nickname or logo in any way. UND would just be known as UND or North Dakota. UND doesn't use the nickname or logo on all uniforms, and the state law doesn't require it. They can wear uniforms that just say UND, North Dakota, or use the interlocking ND logo. UND can officially be known as the Fighting Sioux (which meets the state law), but not have the name or logo on display in any way during the playoffs. However, if UND does try to use the nickname or logo in any way during the playoffs, they could forfeit the games and have to reimburse the NCAA for any expenses.

Since they win most of their lawsuits, I'm pretty sure it isn't unconstitutional. They are a PRIVATE organization, so different laws and standards apply than if they were part of the government.

As I said yesterday, the fight between UND and the NCAA ended in 2007 with a settlement agreement. The NCAA isn't doing anything that wasn't outlined in that agreement. You can't retry the case just because you don't like the results. Go ahead and fight the Notre Dame nickname and logo. I think it will take more than 6 people since it took a lot more than 6 people to get movement on Native American nicknames and logos. You probably don't know this, but there are lists of organizations that have come out against all NA nicknames and logos, including 15 tribes in the Great Plains area. That's all the tribes other than Spirit Lake. But rally all the people you can against the Fighting Irish. Maybe, if you get enough, it might even make someone notice. And if you can get movement on that issue it might make a difference with the NCAA. I would bet big money against you actually getting any results, but I say go for it.

Unless he loses his seat because of the effort. It wouldn't be the first time that a politician lost their seat because they pushed the envelope too far. But that is far from a given in a very conservative district, and it sounds like he lives in a conservative district.

I don't think that Al is up for election this year. When I did a quick search over the weekend it looks like his district had elections 2 years ago, and both houses of the North Dakota legislature are now 4 year terms. Maybe someone in his district would like to start a recall.

What a creative and inventive mind you have, Dave. The world you live in must be a very interesting place.

The students that decide to attend UND will just be happy to get a scholarship. They won't be real worried about going to the playoffs. The women's position could change dramatically this weekend. They could finish as high as 4th (I don't know if they can get to 3rd) or they may miss the playoffs altogether. Or they could end up in 6th or 7th and naturally go on the road. It just depends on how they perform this weekend.

Don't worry, coaches all over the country are already spreading that message.

What is made up? The letter is a restatement of the same thing the NCAA has been saying since the settlement was signed.

I don't see how they could do anything about the people attending the games. This is all about the official traveling party.

You try telling that to the coaches and players. I'm pretty sure that they would disagree. A few years of sanctions will cause many years of damage to ALL of the teams.
