  1. You, Dave and some of the others are beyond hope. But we will continue to repeat the truth because we need to make sure that even the casual readers of this board know what UND will be facing if this farce continues.
  2. Now you think you're a lawyer? The settlement with UND is legal. It was even completed in a court of law. And the chances of Spirit Lake winning are slim. The only chance is to prove anti-trust, and the NCAA is very good at winning anti-trust cases. Plus, the court case with Spirit Lake is going to take years, the whole time UND will be under sanctions and will be suffering damage. Of course, you don't care about UND being damaged since you don't care about UND. You only care about keeping the name.
  3. To anyone that actually cares about the student-athletes and the Athletic Department, YES!!!
  4. Woman's hockey isn't on neutral ice for the first round. It is held at the homes of the top 4 seeds. Unless one of them is UND, then it will be held at the homes of the other 3 of the top 4 seeds and the home of the UND opponent. Doesn't that sound fair after all of their hard work?
  5. They don't care what's going on in North Dakota. And they don't have to. They will deal with the lawsuit when and if they have to; unless their motion to dismiss is successful, in which case it would go away soon. But the whole thing about putting the nickname into North Dakota law, or putting it into the North Dakota Constitution, is meaningless to them. What is so hard to understand? UND and the NCAA have a legal settlement. The NCAA is following that settlement. Changing North Dakota law doesn't affect that settlement.
  6. The battle between UND and the NCAA is done. They signed a settlement agreement in 2007. The UND side includes the State Board of Higher Education and the state of North Dakota. There isn't any more battle between North Dakota and the NCAA. Spirit Lake is trying to get a battle with the NCAA. There may or may not be a battle that actually happens. And if it happens it will probably take several years at a minimum. You can be supportive of the Spirit Lake efforts, but forcing UND to use the nickname during the process DOES NOT help Spirit Lake, while it WILL hurt UND. The first signs have already been seen. And the NCAA is closer to autocrat than democrat or republican.
  7. There was a committee working on retiring the nickname, but I don't believe that they were looking at standards for a new nickname yet. There was supposed to be a separate committee formed when it was time to look at new nicknames. I also believe that there was a 3rd committee, but I don't remember what their role was. Possibly 1 committee to retire the name, 1 to work on maintaining the history of the name, and then a future committee to find a new name.
  8. Since there isn't a potential opponent for a bowl game that uses a nickname on the sanctions list I don't see that as a big deal.
  9. The settlement agreement named Spirit Lake and Standing Rock. It does not say the 2 closest tribes.
  10. It's called a contract. You negotiate terms and put them on paper. You can't change the terms of a contract just because you decide you don't like them. If you could, the contract would be worthless and no one would even bother writing them.
  11. That was exactly what I was thinking.
  12. It's not my problem if you can't comprehend the complexity of the situation. And it's impossible to debate with someone willing to burn down the house.
  13. Do I have to go back to the end of the line again?
  14. He doesn't care about the University or the athletic department. He only cares about the nickname.
  15. It's only that simple if you have a simple mind.
  16. I must have missed that one. As a matter of fact, I haven't gotten any of the club memos for a while.
  17. There's a wee bit of Scottsman thrown in so I can enjoy the dark beers , too.
  18. Not unless he's Norwegian and Irish. And he feels that the NCAA has a very flawed policy, but that they are holding all of the cards so it is best for the University of North Dakota to move on. You really have no concept that there is a huge difference between Jesse Taken Alive and his group who think the name is racist, and the rest of us that don't want to harm the University and the Athletic Department just to keep the name.
  19. You aren't related to Carlson are you? That would explain a lot. And you both live in Fargo.
  20. If it is the Spirit Lake lawsuit they may be referring to the 2000 tribal council approval (if I remember right it was more like we aren't opposed than we are in favor). If that's it, the NCAA wanted a letter after their policy was passed to make sure the tribal council hadn't changed their mind. That 2000 approval might have been noted in the UND lawsuit also.
  21. People in about a dozen countries know about the World Jr. tournament. I doubt that very many people in Asia, Africa or Australia know about it. Or South America. Or probably very many people south of the Mason-Dixon line in this country unless they are among the few NHL fans in the south.
  22. You are quickly reaching Lakes status with your opinions.
  23. What good would it have done to win the lawsuit and go on sanctions within weeks? The NCAA fixed their mistake during the trial. UND would have been on sanctions in early 2008 with no chance to use the nickname beyond that. Unless you're saying that we could have avoided this entire mess of the past several years by getting put on sanctions back in 2008.
  24. Dave, you disrespect everyone that has an opinion different from your own. I would bet that you have never met any of the people at the NCAA, the SBoHE or the UND administration. You don't know what has actually happened with any of them. Yet you call them corrupt. And you are willing to destroy decades of UND athletic tradition just to keep a nickname and logo.
  25. I have never heard of any approval letters from Spirit Lake, at least from anyone with any authority, until after the 2009 election. Even at that point the Tribal Council hesitated to send a letter. I vaguely remember some comments from someone that said, "We've said all we're going to say on the matter" or something like that. But it wasn't from anyone authorized to sign for the tribe and it wasn't in writing. If you have some evidence of a prior approval letter it would be good to see.
