  1. Wait a second...so the school that continues to play in A hockey so they can dominate that level rather than risk being eliminated earlier in AA, the same school that continues to play Roseau, Moorhead, and other big-wigs of Class AA so they can play "better competition," is the same school that DOESN'T recruit kids?

I respect Roseau for playing up in AA more than Warroad for playing A (and playing some AA teams). Regardless I'll always cheer for northern MN teams over 1) metro teams and 2) certainly over private schools.

Northern MN HS teams have challenges for 1) losing top players to USHL and 2) don't have the depth to recover from losing top players.

  2. Funny thing is, you never here a PUBLIC school fan admit they recruit, they say only its done by the Private schools. Even know you give them multiple examples of public school recruiting.

I'd beg to differ on Warroad. Hockeytown USA is pretty well known to bring in talent (especially when there happens to be a family member on the roster). I've also seen ads in Let's Play Hockey recruiting families to move to TRF for Digi Key - and hockey - opportunities.

  3. BSU was able to hold UND to the perimeter. It was the best game I've seen Walsh play, but he didn't have to stand on his head - he was just very well positioned for the perimeter shots. Most shots he had good looks.

No question the Sioux controlled play about 70% of the time with BSU having a good second period. It was frustrating watching the Sioux control play but not being able finish.

  4. Any idea how the ice quality is in comparison to the old arena? I played there once in high school, and it was the softest, most miserable ice I've ever played on. I always felt bad for the boys when they had to play there.

Ice is still soft. High school used to play there and complained about the ice - same as other teams.

  5. They don't usually sell out? If not, that surprises me.

The first year of the Sanford/WCHA, most games were full. Year two, only the Gopher series was full and decent (maybe 3/4 full) crowds for DU, UNO, SCSU and UMD. This year, it's about 1/2 full for the likes of Lake Superior, Alaska, Mankato, etc. It get's very stale in the building for a lot of series with light crowds and there hasn't been much to cheer about lately on home ice.

  6. How is the new arena in Bemidji?

Goon's comparison is true. It's a nice rink but they didn't make the bowl steep enough and the advertising banners scattered around kinda cheapen it up. It's a great asset for Bemidji and definitely one of the nicer college barns. Tap beers are generally $5, and they have premium beers and a mixed drink station. With the first expected full house in quite some time, they'll probably jack up the concession prices . . . :silly:

  7. Yes, we need a new rival to hate in this league. Miami---YOU'RE IT.

Miami sucks! Terrible team, terrible fans, terrible jerseys, terrible rink, terrible terrible terrible. Does Blasi like to do the dasher dance?

I still vote for Denver University (even sans Gwoz) for the NCHC rival. Lots of great WCHA series, playoff games and even those NCAA games.
