  1. I would say I liked Schweitzer because we won a championship with him. That team he was on basically was the foundation for what we have right now.

I actually liked both goalies from the 1997 team. Schweitzer for stepping in and leading the team to the title and Toby K for graciously accepting his role with the team and not complaining. The picture of Toby on the bench hugging Dean Blais near the end of the Sioux/BU game in 1997 is one I won't soon forget.

I have to agree Toby was a class act he also works great with the youth I remember the summer hockey schools with him as one of the instructors.

So I'm driving into work this morning and AM1500 (St. Paul) has a story about ice still being on lakes in the Brainard area and how this will affect the MN Governor's fishing opener. In the story the interview the guy who will be Pawlenty's guide and his name is Toby Kvalevog - I'm assuming it's the former UND goalie. Great gig! Anyway, given the guv is a big Gopher puck fan I'm looking forward to some video of jersey tugging and face washing on the boat. :glare:

Thought it was interesting but not worth starting a thread and stumbled across this thread.

  2. In defense of Jim and the moderating team, perhaps they don't have time to play board police today. My guess is when they're online, several of these threads will be immediately closed.

Moderating is not fun after a tough loss, it seems potential "leapers" now head directly to a message board. :)

Anyway, fine season for your boys with a tough ending. Losing is never fun.....is it October yet so we can set ourselves up for more? :)

  3. Ate at Mickey's Diner, and that was an experience. While we were their, Georgia Engel (played Georgette on the Mary Tyler Moore show) was there. And yes, her real voice is the same as in the show.

An absolute must, Mickey's is the greatest.

  4. NO MATTER WHO YOUR RIVAL IS YOU NEVER WISH SOMETHING LIKE THIS UPON ANOTHER, AND AS A SIOUX FAN I KNOW WE WILL ALL BACK BEHIND MR. POHL IN A SPEEDY AND HEALTHY RECOVERY

Amen to that, spoken like a true fan of the game and not just a team.

I remember being thrilled to hear Bina not only would live a normal life but actually play hockey again (even though the little bleep has killed MN ;) ).

  5. OT game on Saturday night was when the Mavs were called for too many men on the ice....weak call considering the other stuff going on in OT. Mavs proceeded to take the puck down the ice and score. Heck of a great hockey series!

MSU-M was called for too many men in the 2nd OT on Friday night (was not a good call) and scored shorthanded to win game one. MN was called for TMM during the 2nd period of Sunday's game.

Both of MN's OT goals were even strength - thank God Shep did not give MN a pp during either OT Saturday or Sunday or MSU would have won the series.

  6. I think the Sioux held at least a 2-1 advantage in face-offs.....that's a lot of time chasing the puck & playing defense and one of the reasons the Sioux had fresher legs in OT.

What's the story on VanDeVelde? I didn't hear his name much until this past weekend (granted I don't follow that closely) but IMHO he was right up there with the DOT boys as being a scoring threat. Was this typical of his play or did he step up his play level?

  7. I was just going to say that. If there would have been any kind of rebound, it would have been in the back of the net.

It would have been an ugly, ugly win if the shot off the boards, that bounced off the top of the goal had gone in.

I was thinking the same thing....that would have been a horrible way for the game to end.

One of the things that has always impressed me by the Sioux is how the charge the net and create traffic & havoc in front of the net. That picture summarizes it perfectly. MN does this in spurts but still to often looks for the perfect shot......which a college player is lucky to get once a weekend during the regular season and has almost no chance of getting during a playoff game.

  8. You type some kind words there Greayeagle. However, please tell everyone on this site exactly who you will be cheering in the BC/UND game.

Probably BC.....I've always like their program, the way they play, and their colors. :silly:

Should be a great game but I won't be able to watch it.

  9. There's a GPL "Legend" (so called by some of his faithful followers) who said when Hak was hired "I think they could have done better". Too bad we settled. :silly:

It's possible that Goligoski and Okposo's problems were the difference in the game tonite. It's hard to say. It was a great game played very well by both teams. Really, an epic battle.

I'm so glad to read so many comments about other people who were emotionally wrung out by this game. I was hating the idea that I was feeling THAT old.

This is almost the exact same way that Lamoureux let in Johnson's goal (first of the game last week, I believe), the difference being that Johnson was shooting from outside the point. Either way, both goalies wish they had closed up their legs.

I think he was trying to play pass and shot.....if VanDeVelde had been better covered Frazee could have comitted more to the shot......

Lammy played well....Frazee played well. Fun game.

    Weird end boards though, eh?

  10. I didn't see any posters at all......they must have secretly handed them out to Gopher fans*. I may have an extra WCHA calendar for you though. I'm not parting with my towel......which by the way, we didn't have on our seats-our section got stiffed! So I had one of the kids walk down and grab us some off of the empty seats down lower in our section. (Nobody yells at kids for doing something like that)

    *conspiracy theory joke

The WCHA "accidentally" shipped the posters to Fargo.

  11. I believe that the rules state that you can swing at the puck, in your defensive zone, with your hand. You CAN'T grab the puck with a closed hand and throw it like a baseball, like Erik Johnson did. That was a dumb penalty at ANY level of hockey! For a #1 NHL pick, the St. Louis Blues have to have shuddered when they saw "their guy" pull a bone-headed move like that, in a game of that importance! And from what I've read, he'll leave MN for the Blues after NCAA finals. What a doofus!

Didn't the NCAA modify the rule after the ME-DU championship? I seem to remember a DU player throwing the puck out of his zone in the waning seconds of the game. Then again....I can barely remember how many Black-n-tans I had last night.

EDIT: I know about the delay of game call.....he should have gotten an addtional two for thowing like my mom. ;)

  12. Without reading the whole thread...

The hand pass in the UMtc zone by Erik J. resulted in a penalty. Had to have a friendly discussion with the Gopher fan sitting next to me (very nice guys, got along with them well the entire series) about that. They were POSITIVE that you can do that in your own zone. Still argued the point after the penalty. Geeze, that hand pass was equivilent to a throw from center field!

Who was right, the refs (and me ;) ) or my neighbors.

I only ask, because of the questionable calls there have been all year from our fine, upstanding WCHA officials.

    You.

One can "hand pass" in your defensive zone but one cannot grasp the puck and carry it or throw it. Right call was made and he could have gotten two more for thowing like my mom. ;)

Man I hope my mom doesn't read this board.....
