  1. Apparently I struck a nerve and that wasn't my intent. All the things you say need to be done can be done without hurting UND. At this point UND doesn't have any more ammo; they are handcuffed by the settlement agreement and King Al's idiotic law. Leave UND out of it, pursue the SL lawsuit against the NC$$, and get the NC$$'s hipocrisy into the media. Legally, the NC$$ has all the power (so the lawsuit probably won't work). To get them to change, there must be public (Native American) outcry in the media (against the NCAA, not the SBHE and UND). I agree that getting Senator stache and Representive Ricky Rich involved couldn't hurt. This can be done without harming UND.

Again, the question to be asked:

Where was all this urgency when the sanctions were first announced?

The AG agreed to a crappy settlement and it was all slowly downhill after that.

  2. The NCAA may not create the program themselves. That could very well be subbed out. And the program is put together in a hurry. The teams were announced on Sunday evening. I'm sure that they were working on the program and pulling things together for several teams. It isn't surprising that something could slip through the cracks.

There's 8 teams in the tournament. 8. You leave 16 pages empty(8 for the teams, 8 for advertisements), and fill in the rest with your articles. They knew for 3 months at least 2 of the 8 teams. It doesn't take that long to fill in the rest with the other 6 teams and go to print.

  3. UW Blogger Chuck Schwartz also posted his selections

Not that I agree with his selection of not fitting Kristo somewhere in his top 9 forwards, it's absolutely unbelievable how many great forwards we have in this league.

And for no one to talk about Corban Knight is mind-boggling. Not the leading stats guy on the team, but I feel he's the team MVP.

  4. With the win tonight, Hakstol has recorded at least 20 wins in each of his 1st 8 years coaching. Only the Gwoz has done that during the same time period in our league.

    Pretty impressive stat.

  5. It's truly a shame that the head-down hit is becoming a penalty and possible major every time it happens.

That being said, all teams have to play with these rules, and the test is which ones adjust effectively.

    You had it all wrong.

All the refs have to ref by these rules, and the test is which ones ref consistently.

  6. So win the final five it is, or go home?

    No.

Sweep Mankato, Sweep the first-round series, and maybe get the Thursday game at the Final 5 should be enough barring any upsets. If there are a lot of upsets in the conference tournaments, might have to win 7 in a row starting next week.

  7. 5-3 DU

    1:17 to play

Gave up a shortie and in essence 4 PP goals. Same recipe as in Duluth on Saturday. This team just has to play 5-on-5. They don't have enough quality players in the lineup to compete in the 2nd game of a series when there's so much special teams play in the game. Guys are gonna run out of gas eventually.

  8. I still don't think his play is that bad. He's just a player that knows how to get under the opponents skin. The play tonight that you're talking about was STUPID, though. I still don't agree with the suspension he got from the Zucker hit. That hit wasn't bad at all other than the late-ness of it. Kristo's hit on Marshall was worse.

Yep, other than the hit on Zucker being late, high, and against the boards, not much else wrong with it.

  9. I think "struggle to fill Amsoil" is disingenuous: Duluth is averaging over 6300 attendance in a rink that lists 6751 as a "sellout". That's selling 94% of available seats, which I wouldn't characterize as a "struggle".

Pictures tell a thousand words. Having watched chunks of most of their games, I am assuming that they use the tickets sold formula instead of actual attendance at their games.

  10. It's funny how a single postseason can change the outlook of a fanbase.

If there's one thing both UND and UMD fans should have learned from last year, it's that what a team does in the games leading up to the posteason really doesn't matter a whole hell of a lot.

UMD could be on our end of the spectrum this year and we could surprise everyone.

Just make the tourney and take care of business!

I bolded the first sentence. I live in Duluth and it's like any other city that just won its first National Title. The "Fans" are coming out from everywhere. To me, the most disappointing part is the lack of coverage UMD gets over here. They have an area population of over 115,000 people, yet have a hockey arena 1/2 the size of UND's. And they still struggle to fill Amsoil Arena. It's just strange to me that this city doesn't support the team better.

  11. Hmm that's funny. The Pairwise would say otherwise on our rating. Sweep of Western in their barn, 3 at providence, 3 at DU, split with Notre Dame. Good stuff. If I squint real hard I may be able to see UND in the pairwise rankings somewhere "Mr Stoney-no name". I'll give you a play by play of the NCAA's while you and your no names enjoy thr golf course. Do me a favor, warm up the Tee box for me, I'll be out April 8th

Providence? Really? You are trying to prove your point about UMD and you cite Providence? And Denver's the same team that got beat 7-3 by Michigan Tech. Your best point was the split with Notre Dame.

IMO, the truth of the matter is is that UMD is a very good hockey team. No one's denying that. In fact, best team I've seen so far. But in reality, the 2 best teams you've played were way back in October at home and went 1-3.

I think this past weekend is a blip for UMD, but it shows there's a lot more parody in college hockey this year.

  12. No, it is not a necessity, but if you watch that tape, Brooks almost was taunting Commodore to do something. Not smart.

I was at the game...I thought Brooks even took the first swing at Commodore that night. It went downhill fast after that.

    Or am I mistaken?

  13. That is a true statement. But they can make you life a living hell. I get that you have a passport, but don't go on here telling people they don't need one because if they don't have an appoved document, then Customs chose to have them go to secondary and strip search their car for a couple hours. What I am saying is don't show up withut an approved document (passport, passport card, etc) and give them a reason to hold you for 2 hours

Do what you want, but don't misinform people of what they do and do not have to have.

So for all those wondering, BRING A PASSPORT or PASSPORT CARD.or another approved doc as per this list http://www.getyouhom..._eng/index.html

How am I miss informing people, not one thing that I said was untrue.

Can you two quit wasting 20 posts on a game preview thread going back and forth about border entry.

    It's ridiculous.

I guess I now know how to pad my post count on here.

  14. I think both the Grimaldi comments are out of line. His injury came in practice before the beginning of the season. He had never had any problems with his knee caps before this and even with the injury and the pain he was in, he still did everything he could to play and contribute. His individual play against the gophers was one of the best individual plays by a UND player this year.

Are you that person who can't read a joke when it's marked as a joke?
