  1. Bohl will be exposed as the POS he is at Wyoming.

He lucked into some great recruits from Babich, then when his own recruits started being the main players, NDSU was garbage.  Thanks to idiotic leadership at UND staying DII and Brewster ignoring MN, NDSU was able to overcome his initial lackluster job and land the premiere talent in the area.  It was easily a best case scenario that played out..  Luckily NDSU now has a national recruiting footprint, because UM is now recruiting MN hard.

Didn't know Babich recruited Ramon Humber, Craig Dahl, Nick Schommer, Tyler Roehl, Kole Heckendorf, Joe Lardinois  and Jeremiah Wurzbacher.

Bohl had a ton to do with those teams, the guy can coach. His struggles were mainly because he recruited poorly in a few areas, QB especially and also the team had some major complacency and leadership issues. To his credit he fixed all of that.

The man may have some flaws but he is a hell of a coach.

  2. What is the point of having women's hockey anywhere? UMD spent $1.54 million on the sport and it had revenues of $140k, a $1.4 million hit. How can any school, especially one that size be ok with that? Obviously based on recent articles I've seen they aren't. Minnesota lost $1.8 million and Wisconsin $1.2 million, at least they have massive budgets but still with FCOA they will take even bigger hits. Spending over a $1 million on a sport that doesn't even have its title game on TV is absolutely insane to me.

You could cut the sport and fund FCOA across the board.

  3. When players !eave or get kicked off, normally their scholarships get distributed among those getting partials or walk ons. To not have a football team fully funded says there is a problem somewhere. Title IX is the place to look. By not funding football totally, that "shows" women's sports are not exclusively shortchanged when the books are opened. Why NDSU does not have an equestrian team like SDSU, which uses the gals to clean out the barns, is beyond comprehension.

Not necessarily, especially if they think it would be more beneficial to use in recruiting. NDSU has had a few classes suffer heavy attrition.

Equestrian is going to be discontinued by the NCAA, the school did look at it initially from what I can remember but it is no longer even an option.

  4. And how exactly does that defend not providing equal opportunities?  Congrats on that I guess but you still haven't explained the reason for the disparity in the number of opportunities provided.

And not sure what facilities the softball team's are on par with but I have been told that those are towards the top of the priority list for some upgrades so not a big deal if true.

One would think if that was an issue it would have come in the last Title IX lawsuit or the NCAA DI certification process or at some point in the last 30-40 years. NDSU must not be that worried about if, it they were they could clearly add a women's tennis program with relative ease.

The softball team wanted the bubble, it was their #1 request. I think the game day facility will be addressed once the SHAC is done.

  5. Just keep deluding yourself that NDSU is fine shape with Title IX. The courts opinion is what matters, not NDSU or the NCAAs. Why did NDSU not fully fund football? Had 58 instead of 63, which barely qualified them as a counter for FBS. The answer I believe is Title XI, as not funding football to the max is a good defense for Title IX.

UCDavis had a complaint filed by women's wrestlers, who thought they were entitled to a team, but DI doesn't even sponsor it. The gals didn't get anything, but their lawyers got a $1.2 settlement. Granted it was a California court, but the conventional wisdom among the bisonville is that UND law grads will do anything to cause pain for NDSU. UND law grads run the ND court system.

NDSU football wasn't fully funded because players left the team for various reasons. There are men's sports that are getting short changed scholarships but they aren't football or basketball or wrestling(which has its own endowment).

NDSU best Title IX defense would be to open its books and show every women's sports is basically funded at the top of its conference and has facilities on par with the men's teams.

  6. That's about 75 scholarships between those two sports. You'll have to do wrestling also I'd expect. Can we say about 85 for the men? And double that to cover the women. Say $3000 per, that's an extra cool half a million dollars. Figure 5 home games, and 20000 seats per, or 100,000 stubs sold --> add $5 per stub, right? I assume none will balk at that.

I don't think it is a coincidence that suddenly a large chunk of seats required a team maker donation this year.

  7. That not what I said. The Slummit has three sports that need are required for eligibility of the AQ bid: MBB, m soccer, and baseball. It could mandate all three, and force the Dakota out of an FCOA situation. Ndsu would probably have to add three sports, with two being women. Omaha, ORU, WIU, IUPUI, and IPFW would lose nothing. USD would be badly hurting, as they have neither baseball or men'soccer and would have to meet Title Ix.

The Big Sky, MAC, Sun Belt and other conferences mandate sports. Buffalo had to start baseball when they joined.

Denver would need to add baseball, IUPUI would need to add baseball and SDSU would need to add men's soccer. USD would probably have to drop football or leave DI if that happened. I don't see that getting much traction.

  8. It about forcing sports on schools that dont have them. Conference can do that, and bleed the FCOA money with additional sports. Denver got forced out of the Sun Belt for not having enough mandated sports, so they were effectively forced to the WAC because they didn't want to start baseball and softball and track.

Bizons are sure slow on the uptake.

And now they are going to come into the Summit and force that on NDSU. Do they want to fund a baseball program? I don't think so, they will gladly stay out of that grand plan.

COA will be a reality in the Summit, ORU and Denver don't fund their mbb programs the way they do to skimp on something that important. ORU also might want COA for baseball.

Omaha needs COA in the Summit to balance hockey. I don't think the atmosphere is exactly ripe to try to kill COA.

  9. Honestly, you'll see NDSU womens DI hockey before mens because of proportionality and interests challenges.

I don't think you'll see either happen for a very long time if ever. NDSU would move to a proportional prong, it would be cheaper than sinking money into women's hockey. That sport is an absolute millstone.

But I don't think it matters. NDSU doesn't have a suitable hockey arena or a men's team, I don't see any title IX women's hockey lawsuits in the making.

  10. Hammersmith quoted a number for FCOA at UND. Remember, that number is a max that a school can pay -- the full cost of attendance. A school can offer a lesser amount.

UND uses the first prong (proportionality) to comply with Title IX. UND's student body M/W ratio is basically proportional to its student athete M/W ratio.

NDSU uses the third prong (interests and abilities survey). That prong is not the one the NCAA recommends using; however, it is still legal were NDSU to be challenged in Federal court. What NDSU should worry about is their vastly disproportionate M/W ratios and their very, very good womens club hockey team and someone challenging their survey techniques i.e. how come NDSU isn't looking to add a womens sport (good womens club team = interest and ability).

This is why I laugh at everyone that says NDSU could start a men's hockey program and not sponsor women's hockey. with the Title IX prong we use there would be no getting around it. One of the reasons why hockey at NDSU isn't ever going to happen.

  11. I was going to say, NDSU is so far out of compliance with Title IX its ridiculous. Why are we worried about it?

NDSU is in compliance, in fact the prong NDSU has chosen is what makes our women's programs so strong.

  12. Title IX requires us to have women's hockey, I can't see UND keeping it if they didn't have Title IX. If a men's sport (baseball) were to get cut maybe they could cut women's hockey as well unless the percentage between mens and women's sports aren't close to equal.

Doesn't UND use the proportion prong of Title IX? I think you could figure out a way around it if you wanted but it may require as you say cutting a men's sport.

  13. Women's hockey sucks here. No atmosphere. Loses money

Give some to women's volleyball for a leg up and women's basketball got a leg up

Don't put anymore in to that hockey program

Women's hockey sucks everywhere, the amount of money your school wastes on it astounds me. Men's hockey I get, cash cow and can bring some great exposure. You should stick that money into WBB or VB if you want a better return on it.

  14. Honestly if NDSU wanted to they could charge much more for the UND game and the other games. That is just where demand is at right now, I think what they are doing is sustainable as long as they are investing back into the program(like cost of attendance for example)

  15. All things that will help push cost of attendance forward at NDSU, not my fault Faison cut us a sweetheart deal. Did you not think we would take full advantage of it?

If NDSU is going to play this game, that was always the plan. It was the main reason to do it. Team makers will smash records next year.

  16. First an unscheduled press conference to announce the games and now this:

    9/12 - Weber State - $35 / $25

    9/19 - North Dakota - $60 / $50

    10/10 - Northern Iowa (Homecoming) - $40 / $30

    10/17 - South Dakota - $35 / $25

    11/7 - Western Illinois - $35 / $25

    11/21 - Missouri State - $35 / $25

But remember folks, its no big deal to them, they were just filling an open date.  And before the FU mensa club comes by and states they are just looking to gouge UND fans, NDSU is looking at giving Teammakers who don't have season tickets first crack at a good sized portion of single game tickets, it will be their own fans paying the "inflated" price for an unimportant out of conference game.

Our women's basketball team thanks you for helping to pay for their cost of attendance stipends. Thanks Faison and Bubba, I will invite them over to toast over the crow I eat with some good whiskey. It is the least I can do.

  17. Even though he never attended the school? Seems pretty lame in my opinion.

I thought the post was about Wheeler. Not sure what the rules say about that situation but if he never attended I think he could play, he wouldn't really be a transfer.

  18. If he received a complete release from Albany he would be eligible right away. He would be immediately useful with the loss of Shields.

Not sure that is possible anymore, Jeff Goodman was talking about today that all transfers that don't use the grad school waiver will have to sit under the NCAA's new transfer rules.

  19. For a good belly laugh, go to Bville, where they think FU has a good shot of Big 12 membership. Their reasoning is that ISU and KSU would support a fellow.land grant and have their football respect! If only the state of ND would get behind them and build a new campus near Wayzata. The MVC won't look at them but the Big 12 would!

Uh oh...it happening! Bison Big 12 bound....
