What's the injury report on SU?  I have heard RB's are dinged.  A good d-line guy was lost, and even us UND guys know about DeLuca, he is fun to watch.  Is your left tackle blocking anyone, yet, he sure wasn't game #1.

    Thanks-

The team should be very healthy by the playoffs, except for DeLuca and Tanguay who are of course done for the year.

The DL looked alright last week without Tanguay but that was against Indiana State.

The OL has improved a lot as the season has moved along, rushing offense is on point but Stick is kind of struggling with his passing.

  2. Well I do remember one MVFC team playing NDSU for the title. So I guess somebody else did something. If the committee had bracketed properly last year it may have happened again.

That said the league is a bit down this year. Still good but not as deep. Also I would hardly say SDSU has dominated the league, they've been on a similar level of UNI and ISUR.

But nothing for the women's sports and they charge that much?

I believe there is coverage for the WBB Dakota schools with ESPN3 and Midco. Not sure if IUPUI, WIU and ORU also show games on ESPN3.

MVFC has all games on ESPN 3 which is better than Eversport.  Not sure if the Summit had the same deal though?

NDSU, SDSU, USD, WIU, ORU and IUPUI all have basically every game on ESPN3 for MBB.

And outside of NDSU, we shouldn't count on any increase of visting fans from the Summit/MVFC traveling to Grand Forks either. South Dakota brought a pathetic crowd to the Potato Bowl this year. Montana/Montana State bring 4x the amount of visiting fans.

SDSU travels significantly better than USD. I think UNI travels better than USD, at least for games at the Fargodome.

Would this also mean all games would be on espn for football? cuz that would be sweet. Roku espn app > eversports

Yes, both the MVFC and Summit have ESPN3 deals. So all the football games will be on ESPN3 and most of the basketball games.

A lot of games also on Midco as well for basketball.

No doubt the Slummit would offer us.  But the MVFC doesn't want 11 schools and NDSU doesn't want to play us.

This move by Faison will prove that the MVFC won't play ball with us.  The MVFC has to accept us or else the Slummit bid is rejected.  The only saving grace will be a realigned WAC with the Montanas and Idaho

    Just wait and see.

I always thought the MVFC wouldn't budge but that stuff from Patty V seems like I was wrong and they are willing to play ball with UND.

I can try but I don't get why people are upset. This conference combo is an ideal fit, your school will save money and in the process join a better league. The Big Sky is a nice football league but I don't see the appeal for other sports.

AD's don't negotiate conference changes.  Presidents do.  The Commissioners don't make any decisions.  Presidents do.

This is a BS article and a ploy to make a WAC change.

I don't think ADs are negotiating with conference commissioners at the level Faison is unless it is basically a done deal. Your dream is dead SV....come on down to the Slummit. Where you will enjoy better basketball, more regional opponents, play games people in the region will actually care about and will get to play in a conference tournament in a packed beautiful arena right down the interstate. I know all that must sound horrible but you will have to deal with it.

  10. I don't get why Carson will be decimated, he isn't a Christian Ponder with a noodle arm nor a Johnny football/Leaf with a destructive personality. He has the physical tools, he is a smart and humble kid, a team guy. I think the senior bowl week proved that the situation isn't too big for him. He handled everything very well and looked like he belonged on that field.

I don't know if I would take him at #2 or #4 but if I was Houston or St Louis(Oops I mean LA) or Buffalo I would be all over him in round one. In the NFL you need a QB to succeed, with the right coaching and talent surrounding him I have no doubt Carson can start and succeed in the NFL.

  11. I kind of wonder if the athletics department is concerned about statewide budget cuts due to the oil bust and how that could impact how university funds are distributed. Having more student fee revenue would be a more stable source of funding.

  12. People can spend their money however they want, it's not Dean's job to tell them what to do with it. This is a tab the state should be picking up but fortunately business leaders come to NDSU's aid once again. They get and appreciate the work that Bresciani is doing, too bad legislative leaders like Skarpohl can't grasp it.

    1. For international travel:  If flight time approximates five or more consecutive hours from the United States port to the overseas port, a "less-than-first class" (e.g. business class) ticket may be purchased.

    https://www.ohio.edu/policy/41-121.html

I am not going to look up a ton of schools, I don't have time for it. But glancing at google Kent State has a similar policy, some like the U of MN you need approval from somebody higher up and of course multiple schools are like NDSU where the president approves it. That said, it is an "embarrassment" according to the chancellor to travel in this manner, so I kind of doubt the new policy will allow it all.

The speed limit on the interstates in ND is 75 mph.
The speed limit on the interstates in SD is 80 mph.

That does not mean that Bresciani can drive 80 mph on ND interstates just because it's different elsewhere.

Don't like the law/policy? Fix it, but don't be surprised when you're called out for breaking it.

According to the chancellor he didn't really break the policy. Our backwards legislators don't like the policy and the chancellor is going to change it for them.

If I wrote the policy it would say presidents can fly business class for long flights(that seems to be standard for our peer universities).

Backwards huh?  Hagerott checked and found that the other Presidents fly coach.  But don't let facts get in your way.

Other ND university presidents I guess might but nationally not so much. Many colleges and universities(especially the size of NDSU) have policy that states for international travel business class is allowable. So yeah, that is backwards and it embarrassing that he is getting called out for it.

Gotta hand it to NDSU fans.  They are loyal.  Even defending shady spending by their President.

I wouldn't question it even if it was UND's president, in fact I would defend it just the same. Show me true misuse of public funds and I will get upset, but this is just silly. Tired of Skarpohl's witch hunts that serve no purpose but make the state look like some backwater.

  16. So should he send a note to himself, approving his own travel expense upgrade? I get the complaining if he pulled a Chapman esque DC trip but this is just stupid. Business class should be the policy for either president of NDSU or UND. Their time is worth something, common sense that they travel in the most effective manner to get work done.

  17. This story is embarrassing. He flew business class to India, big deal. I'm sure this stupidity will help UND's president search, nice that they all get a first hand look at how backwards this state is.

Brescian's time is worth something, he needs to get work done while traveling and when he hits the ground, not going to happen in coach.

I guess I'm one of the people still stuck in the 50s (as a millennial) struggling to understand how importing a kid from India for 3 years, getting $0 in tuition from him/her, having them work on a noncompetitive grant project or as a teaching assistant nobody from the midwest can understand (while a ND/MN student continues working as a server and paying full tuition), and then them leaving to go back to India with a masters degree (because they were here on a student visa, and thus, can't stay after graduation or work outside of the university), all paid for by the ND taxpayers and other students, is such a great deal for us.

The bozos in the legislature even attack NDSU for having too many MN students, which is ridiculous. I do think a previous president put too much focus on international students, they are not a bad thing at all and I do think a research universities like NDSU and UND should be recruiting them. Diversity is a good thing, having very intelligent students to do research and teach is a good thing. I do think there needs to be a layer of regulation in regards to recruiting them and how much is spent but it is sad that attracting these students has turned into a negative.

McFeely was trying to rile people up, which he did. I don't agree with all of Skarphol's comments but to completely dismiss all of his points as "stuck in the 1950's" is flat out wrong.

I know McFeely loves to rile people up but he also made a great point in calling him out. There is a group of legislators that are stuck in the past and clueless as to what the state needs to do in the modern world. Skarpohl is their poster child. He is embarrassing but sadly so are most of politicians in this state so even when he is retired I don't hold out much hope in things changing.

Unfortunately, we have a legislature in ND who are ass backward on things along with being powerhungry.  All of us can see the harm this particular law does but the legislature cannot.  Leaders like Skarpohl especially like these type of laws and hey'd like a few more because they're thinking on a 1975 level  and it is2016

1975? Don't give them that much credit. The clueless legislators from the west are still stuck in the 1950s. They are embarrassing, McFeely who I usually can't stand had a great article about Skarpohl today.

Basketball is in the summit, no?

I am not sure on the Summit contract but it is with ESPN, so it might have the same issues. I expect NDSU will move to deal with ESPN like IUPUI and ORU have for hoops, they pick up the broadcast from a local media outlet and put it on ESPN3 and/or ESPN College Extra.

  22. 5 hours ago, SiouxVolley said:

McFooley of the Forum says NDSU requested RFP for all broadcasting media outlets.  Apparently, FSN was not one of those getting an RFP.

The MVFC media contract does not allow for NDSU to broadcast games on FSN, so it would be pointless to send them an RFP.

  23. The SLC is a very top heavy conference, they added a lot weak schools when they expanded and they are still trying to establish themselves. McNeese, UCA and SHSU usually have solid teams though, SHSU has been to the semifinals or title game in four of the past five seasons. They probably have a title or two if it wasn't for NDSU.
