  1. I think a lot of the blame for WBB at NDSU falls on Lynn Dorn's shoulders. She just seemed to put way too much stock into thinking Dehoff could do it and spent too long hoping her hire would work out. A lot of AD's make that mistake and it is a costly one.

    If my options were

    A) National Title in Hockey

    B) National Title in FCS Football

    C) Cinderella run in March Madness

I'm taking C all day and twice on Sunday.

There is no bigger exposure bomb then going on a run in the dance. Just winning a game brought NDSU a ton of exposure, can't even imagine how crazy a sweet 16 run would be.

Hoops is where it is at and that is what amazes me with your AD, he has just left your program be a tire fire even though you play in a conference that is ripe for the taking.

  3. Jones might be the worst coach in the Dakotas....including high schools. Can't believe he is still there, he makes Muss look like Bill Belichick. Maybe your AD just doesn't care about hoops...I have no idea but it is sad.

Amazed NDSU won after missing so many free throws. But this team finds ways to wins, coaching helps a lot.

  4. Absolutely.  Also big fans of Montana State to eliminate the Griz.  Too lazy to look it up - are most of the other games schedule much earlier than UNDs game?  So we may have an idea what's going on before UND even takes the field?

Yeah, looks like your game is the last one on the FCS slate so you should know just where you stand.

Nova is another team to watch out for, if they beat JMU they would have three wins over playoff teams. Lose and they are done.

  5. Right or wrong it doesn't matter much, SUU either wins and gets the autobid or is out of the field with only 6 DI wins and zero impressive wins.

SOS doesn't mean a ton to the committee unless it is either very strong or very weak. Impressive wins carry more weight, you guys should be the biggest PSU fans in the country on Saturday. Gets rid of EWU and that beefs up your big win a well.

  6. Greatly miss getting the Sioux football and hockey games on Fox College Sports down here in Missouri.  One of the biggest reasons we haven't switched to Direct TV  is that they don't offer Fox College Sports and because of the few games that we still get on FCS.

    Direct has Fox College Sports.

  7. The Summit would be a great fit for UND. A conference tournament in a regional location, regional rivals, it is on a similar level with the Big Sky in every sport.

I can't even imagine how rough travel is for the non-football sports. Bus to Fargo, fly to a hub airport and then connect and probably more busing after that....then you do it all over again on the way back to GF. Travel savings alone would probably fund a big chunk of FCOA.

The MVFC is a different beast of course, the eastern schools would need to be appeased but if the Big Sky let you become a football only affiliate that wouldn't matter.

  8. Morlock did nothing wrong, that fan should be banned from the stadium. Everyone here would push some drunk fool off of them if they were in the same situation.

  9. So most of the G5 have no business being FBS?

A recruit would much rather get an FBS scholarship with no FCOA than a partial FCS one with FCOA, all other things being even.

Most of the G5 will do it. The ones that don't, won't be competitive.

NDSU isn't going to jump its football up and not do everything possible to be competitive. FCOA would be mandatory in that scenario.

  10. Larsen has to wait for any FCS to FBS rules changes. He doesn't want to offer kids FCOA and then have to yank it from them so NDSU can go FBS. FBS will greatly increase dollars needed and women sports offered (at least two women sports). If it's pay to play, as FBS may have a initial fee, it would be daunting.

In the FBS, FCOA is mandatory cost of doing business. If you don't do it, you have absolutely zero business being there. NDSU would need FCOA in place for everything before even contemplating a jump up.

  11. I actually agree with the rumor, I see the P5 wanting more G5 teams. A number of FBS school do not want to play FCS schools anymore but paying G5 schools can get expensive. More G5 schools won't impact their revenue streams in anyway and it will increase the potential pool of schools they can schedule and as a result drive down guarantees a bit.

  12. NDSU is never going to join the Sun Belt, bad fit for both parties.

Also it would only work as a football only thing and that seems to be going out of fashion in the FBS/G5 world.

I do agree JMU would jump to the MAC, rumors were they were very close until UMass decided to not go all in.

  13. What are the average budgets for men's and women's lacrosse? I'm guessing if a regional conference could be created the costs wouldn't be too bad, I'd guess some of the western programs have major travel expenses.

I wouldn't mind seeing lacrosse at NDSU, we have a great club team but like everything the costs would be a concern.

  14. Hockey isn't worth it, when you need to add a women's program to the mix you are taking on massive costs for the chance of a small return in revenue and exposure.

I actually like the sport but NDSU has no need for it.

  15. Come on.  In 2006, NDSU (though the NDSU Foundation) bonded $3.5 million for the locker room/coach's office renovation at the Fargodome which was almost the entire cost, and still have $1.7 million plus to pay on it.  They also don't have anywhere near the cash on hand for the SHAC, but that project is well under way and they will end up bonding a huge dollar amount for that as well.

Full disclosure - UND did the exact same thing though the UND Foundation this past year to be able to get shovels in the ground for the Indoor Practice Facility.

I don't think either school should be using their foundations to bond, but the state government likes to make everything difficult.

  16. Which is why the state is allowing ndsu to bond for their new swimming pool.

Bonding is very restricted, only reason that went through is because the students voted for it and are paying for it entirely with their own fees. NDSU can't build a new academic building with bonds or an athletic facility.

  17. No doubt he is a hell of a coach, anyone saying otherwise is an idiot.

That said, in this case, he is looking like a real dickhead.  There is no reason whatsoever to take away this kid's entire season.  Foreign exchange student wanting to be close to his buddies, a walk-on, UND being an FCS program.  So many reasons to let him play.

Hell, just tell Bubba to not play him Week 1 and call it good.  Bubba is as honest as it gets, Nevermann wouldn't be on the plane to Wyoming.

I don't think it is right, the kid should play. I wouldn't treat a walk on transfer like this.

  18. He would never have been accepted to UM under any conditions.  He couldn't even get accepted at NDSU, had to 'greyshirt' I believe.

Yeah, he didn't get into NDSU. He had to go through the pathways program at NDSCS for a year.
