I implied the comment made me laugh. I did not call him or his opinion moronic or unintelligent. And I will stand by own opinion that the temperature isn't what has thus team in 9th place and that Jones is no Tom Izzo. See how I did that? Made my opinion known without directly insulting or demeaning anyone. Being a moderator doesn't require me to give up the right to have an opinion.

Agree. I have been able to go to more games this season than I have since I was in college. Although the results have been mostly disappointing, every game has been entertaining to watch. Hooker alone is worth the price of admission. I encourage anybody in town for the hockey game to get to he basketball game today too. Should be win today!

UND is 4-1 against the Cats since joining the Big Sky. We have played well enough to win every home game so far, just haven't closed them out. Hopefully they get after them on Saturday.

13-30 is this program's record against the other 5 former NCC schools since we moved to DI. 17-39 is this program's record against low-major and mid-major programs in the last 8+ seasons.

Big Sky reviewing bids for M/W tournaments for 2016-18
bincitysioux replied to SiouxVolley's topic in Men's Basketball
Just curious if there are any fans here that realistically would make a trip to the Big Sky tournament if it were held at a predetermined site. Personally speaking, if it did land in Billings, which is an 8 hour drive for me, I would probably make that drive IF UND were the #1 seed and there is a good chance that I'd see them make the NCAA Tournament. I would probably make the trip under the same circumstances to anywhere that I could fly from ND non-stop like Vegas, SLC, Denver. I can't imagine I would ever make the effort to get to a place like Reno. I am just curious if there would be any interest in this from regular fans if they did have time to plan the trip. I think the fact the Frozen Face Off is a week later is always going to limit attendance from the UND faithful. I plan on going to that every year that UND makes it, so two consecutive weekends of travel like that would be tough. Hence my #1 seed requirement. -
Rebuilding implies that something was built up at some point. It has been about 12-13 years since this program has been where it really should be. 4 games over .500 has been the pinnacle thus far of the past 10+ years. Jones was in fact hired to "rebuild" this thing. I think the argument that he hasn't gotten the job done is a valid one. And let's watch the name calling please, no need for that.

EWU got the win over Sac last night so the Eagles are alone in 1st place by a half game for the moment. Looking at the schedules though, I'd say EWU has a bit tougher road to hoe. As far as North Dakota is concerned, they remain in 9th, a game behind Weber State. That loss, at home, to a Weber team that is having an uncharacteristic down year, is looming large.

Big Sky reviewing bids for M/W tournaments for 2016-18
bincitysioux replied to SiouxVolley's topic in Men's Basketball
Loveland/Greeley and Flagstaff are out of the running....... Five Basketball Championship Locations Selected for Site Visits Billings a finalist for hosting Big Sky men's basketball tournament It seems as though the bid from Billings does not include the women's tournament. If they are going to do this, I don't understand why they would be separated. -
That foul was called from 50 feet away while the ref that was 4 feet away nothing to say....

Perhaps the Nike apparel is better at fighting off the adverse effects of the cold weather that has crippled the men's basketball program in recent years?

I don't think one can stress how important it is to the fans in and around Grand Forks to put a winning product on the floor/ice/field. And I don't mean .500 or better winning product, I mean in the hunt for a conference title winning product. UND women's basketball is 2nd in the Big Sky in attendance by a wide margin and I have no doubt that is mainly because they win a lot of games and they are expected to win a lot of games. The crowd and atmosphere at last year's Big Sky Women's Championship is a great example of the fan base's desire to support a winner. The men are 3rd in the conference in attendance. There is a huge drop off after Weber, and then another after Montana. But the men's team is at a place, and it has been for a long time, where a win against a quality opponent is almost a surprise. Watching them get annihilated in a one week span on TV by Minnesota and then NDSU did very little to entice people to head to the ticket office.

College basketball attendance seems to be down across the nation in recent years for whatever reason. But IMO Coach Jones gets most of the credit for the dwindling fan interest in the men's basketball program. Fans in Grand Forks want to see a winner, and except for maybe the 2010-11 team, the last 9 seasons have yielded average results in the very best seasons. Since he took over, the program is averaging 16 losses per season. For comparison, Rich Glas averaged 10 losses per season in his first 8 years, and Gunther averaged 8 losses a year in his first 8 seasons. Out of 19 head coaches in the history of the school, Jones' winning percentage ranks 15th. Yes, the transition to DI surly played a part, but the transition is over. The fact is that Jones has presided over a lot of losses during his tenure. We saw the same thing in football. Nobody wants to see their favorite Division I program lose to NAIA schools. Unfortunately we've suffered through that with both our football and men's basketball teams in the not so distant past. I think the phrase that sums up this program under Jones is, "It could have been worse".................

Define "very competetive". North Dakota is 3-6 against other Dakota schools in the last 4 seasons and some of the losses included epic blowouts of 20, 29, and 38 points. I don't consider the Summit a real strong league either, but before one cites its weakness as a major factor for the XDSU's success in it, consider that UND is 4-16 against Summit teams since moving to DI.
