  6. Let's play them for the Nickel! Seriously, they should reintroduce a trophy. We played for one for almost 50 years. There was a thread on the USD Board about this a while back, and a USD poster offerd up the idea of the "First Dakota Trophy", because there has also been somewhat of a controversy as to which state was admitted to the Union first. That sounded like a good idea. The schools need to market this rivalry better through this transition. I give alot of credit to NDSU and SDSU for the way they've built up their games. Those two schools barely acknowledged each other for the first 100 years that they played in any sport.
  7. Anyone know exactly how far behind in his rehab Lenhertz is? I would have thought that without him, we would have seen a little bit of Mathison on the floor, since he is the only other "big" on the team besides Benter. Mertens had a rough game offensively last night. Hopefully he puts it behind him quickly, he will certainly be needed on the offensive side of the ball in order for the team to have a successful season. He played extremely well defensively last night.
  8. I watched the game on TV and it really was a tale of two halves. The Sioux were especially horrid in the 2nd half. They tried their hardest to give that game to UMKC. I know it was the first game of the season, but turnovers have really been a problem in the Jones era. I was very impressed with the play of Harkins, and Mitchell looks to be a very promising player. This was the first time I've seen Mertens play, after hearing alot about him, he is definately athletic, that is for sure. UND needs to improve on their free throw shooting, it was horrendous last night. Also, I don't think I've ever in my life seen so many offensive fouls called in one game. Both teams incurred alot of them, but UND especially. It was an ugly game, but entertaining to watch, and a great win to start off the season and the DI transition.
  9. While coach daddy does not go out of his way to sugar-coat things and is usually not the most optimistic poster on this forum, he may have a point about UND's recruiting tactics. I can't think of any prominent DI programs, or consistently successful mid-major ones, that heavily recruit eastern ND and Northwest MN. We've had a ton of success with these girls over the years, and it should continue to be the base of our efforts, but I think the coaching staff needs to branch out and expand their recruiting strategies in order for this DI move to be successful. I think the return of Travis Brewster will help with that alot. I don't mean to pick on WBB, because every program at UND will need to re-evaluated their recruiting strategies, and they all should have started about 2 classes ago.

  11. Here's the bracket for the DII playoffs. There are 4 former NCC schools in the field: UNO, Central Washington, UM-Duluth, and Minnesota St.
  12. A post over on AGS indicates that North Dakota will play Lamar in 2010. Lamar discontinued it's football program in 1990, and is in the process of resurrecting it. 2010 will be the programs first season of play. Good chance this would be a home game in 2010.
