  1. If they simply merged, they would have either 10 or 11 teams depending on what happens with Western Michigan, and also assuming Notre Dame is out (which they likely are). Even before the WCHA added Bemidji and UNO, it had an unbalanced schedule. I'd think, under the circmstances, a merged WCHA/CCHA could get creative with scheduling in order to include both Alaska schools, similar to how the Big Sky conference has done with having a less than ideal 13 team football league.
  2. Wouldn't it be cool if the new hockey league was just called "The Super Conference" ? Since that is what we've all been referring to it by for the last week or so...................
  3. I have no idea, but the guy would be a great candidate. He's extremely knowledgable and effective as an administrator. I'm sure that given all the unfair flack he's taken during his tenure in Grand Forks over the nickname, he wouldn't mind a change of scenery at this point. I hope not. I hate to think where North Dakota athletics would be in 2013 without him.........................probably still in the Great West and an anemic WCHA.
  4. I'm of the opinion that hockey at UMTC & Wisco was already treated like a second class citizen. Alvarez takes alot of blame for all this because he was so vocal about being in favor of Big 10 hockey, but I really don't see much of a downside for the Big 10 hockey playing-schools forming their own exclusive league under the same umbrella that all their other sports participate in. All of their traditional WCHA and CCHA rivals will be on their knees pleading to play games against them. Probably 90% of each teams games will be televised on the Big 10 Network, the marquee ones nationally on the main channel and the rest on its alternates. More live programming on the Big 10 Net will add $ to the member coffers. I don't think its good for college hockey in general, but I think it is real good for the Big 10 schools...............................especially Penn St.
  5. I'm a North Dakota football fan first................. but you meant NHL right?
  6. Oshie, Stafford, Finley, Parise, Parise, etc., etc.,.......................I could go way back. North Dakota's best players have traditionally come from Minnesota and Canada. I don't see that changing. I never felt that Minnesota and Wisonsin leaving the WCHA would have much of an effect on recruiting, and I certainly don't think North Dakota leaving the WCHA will either......................players that come to North Dakota don't choose to do so because they want to continue to play the same kids they played in midgets, bantams, and high school...........they come because it is a stepping stone to the biggest stage of hockey..............

  8. That is wonderful that another UND sport has found a home. Quick question though, would it not have made more sense for both the men's and women's swimming teams to join the MPSF? I'm not a close follower so I don't know how scheduling works, but it seems that with one head coach for both programs means that Coach Parsons will be a really busy guy................
  9. If in fact that North Dakota was spear-heading this idea, or at least one of the leaders throughout it, I'd like to give kudos to our A.D. Brian Faison and our President Robert Kelley. First the the Big Sky Conference, now the hockey "super conference". Their foresight deserves acknowledgement.............

  12. Wow...........just, wow. That is all.
  13. That's kind of what I'm thinking....................
  14. Yeah it would be nice to have some Spirit Lake people there........................ Forget about replacing Stenjem with Wrigley..........if anybody should be replaced amongst the representation, it should be Al Carlson. My question is why is Jody Hodgson going? To answer questions about the REA? Bull........... REA is not a party to the settlement and he is the employee of a privately owned entity. This is a state issue. How come the GM of the Alerus Center isn't tagging along? Or a member of the Grand Forks Park Board to represent Kraft Field and Center Court Fitness?
  15. What he said.................. I wonder if maybe..................just maybe.............15 former PRESIDENTS of the Alumni Association perhaps have a slightly better grasp of this situation and the potential consequences that could come from it that does Al Carlson.............
  16. Good lord................
  17. Robert Kelley's job is to look out for the best interests of the University of North Dakota. To think that he some how had a hand in the NCAA statement released last week is preposterous. My guess is that President Kelley (and Brian Faison for that matter since he is also continually thrown under the bus) has a better handle on how this legislation, and the nickname itself will affect the university going forward whether it be in DI, DII, or DIII athletics than does anyone who has ever posted on this board. The thought of giving up such proud, thoughtful, honorable and unique moniker is a tough pill to swallow and a crappy situation all around, but personally to me, not as crappy a thought as the idea that someone would prefer to be a "Fighting Sioux" fan rather than a fan of the University of North Dakota. Without the University of North Dakota, there is no Fighting Sioux......................not the other way around.
  18. This guy is completely out of touch on this issue..........................

  20. Sarcasm...............
  21. Regarding the letter from the Big Sky to President Kelley, can someone remind me of the "protest" on the campus of UC Davis? If we're talking about the last game in Davis which was 2009, I was there, on campus Friday night and all day on gameday, and don't recall seeing any protestors. I could have missed them, wondering if anyone else saw them. The only protestors I've come across have been in St. Cloud and Vermillion................ Also glad to hear that if forced to choose, the Big Sky Presidents will support the wishes of the Sioux tribes......................that means they are in favor of the use of the name!
  22. They did.............. Big Sky commissioner expresses concern over N.D. Legislature's proposal to keep Sioux nickname But the "Save the nickname at all costs/hockey only crowd" prevailed again...............

  24. Big loss for USD..................... He was pretty much a dagger to UND two seasons ago. Good shooter................
