  1. If we couldn't win it, at least a WCHA team did! How's your hair?

Disgusting. I snipped off some of it so it looks better but it has a weird texture.???

  2. In spite of all the a**ho UMD fans who are part of every fan base, they'll still be my second favorite team....in a few weeks. ;)

Good job UMD and congratualtions on your great win!!!

Thanks for calming me down and taking my mind off hockey during the 3rd intermission, although I was so shaky walking back to my seat I almost fainted.

  3. Congrats to the Bulldogs for sure. I did read, however, that only 200 fans showed up at Amsoil arena to congratulate the team. Are you kidding me!? Those guys deserve better than that after winning the first title ever for their program.

And they are getting that at the actual celebration on Wednesday evening.

  4. Really, to get the MTU program back on track, it almost has to leave the WCHA for a much more weakened CCHA. In the CCHA, it would have a chance to escape the basement. Escaping the basement in the WCHA would be much more difficult. In the 70's and 80's, coaching could overcome MTU's geographical and demographic issues. Not anymore as Houghton's disadvantages are growing only more pronounced. It's more important now for MTU to maintain annual games with Michigan and Mich State, than with Minnesota and Wisconsin, as Mich and Mich St may be tying up their holiday tournaments that previously included MTU with other CCHA schools. But more than anything, MTU needs a reasonable chance of winning, which will be provided by playing against schools with similar rink/facility situations like NMU, LSSU, Ferris, and WMU.

The truth is: MTU leaving the WCHA would be helpful for both. The WCHA then has an open slot to attract another higher profile school, like Iowa State, for example. Michigan Tech would get better attendance from more wins and more games with local rivals NMU and LSSU.

The GLI is Michigan Tech's tournament, not UMAA or MSU's. And I'm sorry, but I'd rather have Michigan Tech than Iowa State any day of the year. Why trade a program with history and with our league's TROPHY for a program with no history, no fan base, and a team that won't be any better? The Small6 will have plenty of non-conference opportunities that they won't need to ditch Tech; if they wanted to pull out of the GLI they would have a long, long time ago.

  5. Why would anyone want to coach at Tech? It's not a career boost, to be sure.

It is if the coach turns the program around. A young, ambitious, energetic guy would definitely see this as a challenge to be tackled, not a problem to be avoided.

  6. You're not bitter about your vikes brutal pathetic 2010 season ?

No way, there's no need to be bitter when the whole season sucked. There's LOTS to be bitter about TWELVE MEN IN THE FREAKING HUDDLE. Thanks Biddy! Just what I wanted to think about.

  7. You're wrong there, ya ol' biddy! I know UMD fans who don't harbor the jealously and hatred toward out team that the majority of UMD posters on this FIGHTINGS SIOUX sports forum have. There must not be a UMD sports forum, you certainly spend enough time here. Or, more realistcally (what loser sports team doesn't have a fan forum?), you just like hanging out with winners. ;)

We're not jealous. If we were jealous, we'd just be Sioux fans. There's no application process.

Posting on message boards = not having to do work. The more boards, the merrier. One can only post so many times on the Penalty Box, a message board I know you are already aware of.

  8. Bought a ton of tix for relatives for the Regional in GF, and won tix to the Frozen Four in Milwaukee. Sat in the second row w/ a college girlfriend who just moved to Milwaukee the week before, great seats in the players section. (Met Robbie Earl before the game. . . nice guy, even though he was a big diver!) Anyway, sat by the biggest loser jerk of a Boston College fan that ever lived (although I've heard they're all that way from anyone I've ever asked) who chirped and dissed North Dakota the whole game. (My girlfriend says to this day that it's a good thing they don't serve beer at those things. . . I'd have never made it through the second period w/o getting kicked out!) We lost of course, but I was still so mad about it the next day that I wouldn't sit by the Boston College fans at the tasting part of the Miller Brewery tour. My friend and I hung back so we could sit by some Sioux fans. And it's all History after that. I married the scruffy one two years later and our son will be playing for the Sioux in 2028. :)

P.S. Still mad I didn't write a great letter to the brewery about how we met so we could have gotten free beer for the wedding dance. :) Went to Denver Frozen Four for the Honeymoon and lost, so we're staying home and going to Wild Wings on Thurs. in Bismarck. I think we're due. . . . it's our son's first birthday on Sat. :)

    Best post of the thread.

  9. I've always liked the Bulldogs but I'd say that Sandelin becoming your teams head coach created a soft spot for UMD. Certainly didn't negatively impact how Sioux fans thought of UMD.

I do understand the Sioux fans' perspective with Sandy, but that goes one way. I guess we did give you Andy Rannells.

  10. I look at the title of this thread... "UMD Fans-What Happened?"... and I think it should say "WCHA Fans-What Changed?"

The Internet happened. Seriously. How many interactions did fanbases have before SS/Twitter/facebook/blogs/article comments? Not a lot. So if one didn't like an article in the paper, they had to write a letter to the editor. If one had a bad experience with a fan, they wouldn't then encounter them over and over in cyberspace later on.

More and more people are joining SS/USCHO (I'd say tPB but not really, it's pretty much a niche site, which I like), more people are blogging, more people are commenting. And more people are irritating each other!

I don't get why we were considered allies anyway. Other than individual fan friendships, why would we be allies? Bemidji is different because there are a lot of people who were Bemidji AND Sioux/Gopher fans because they didn't compete much, and now they have to choose. Well, they don't HAVE to.

  11. have fun working with schools that lose money every year (except the UofM) on hockey! if i was starting a new hockey conference PENN STATE and OHIO STATE are the last schools i would be looking at to join the leage. those two school wont be relevant in college hockey for years to come and will water down your league a heck of a lot quicker than bemidji state and Omaha! also, the last time i checked, UND and Denver were D1 schools. your argument about not being in a conference with a D3 school is irrelevant because D3 already has hockey!

UNO is going D-1 as well.

  12. i don't know what time pa is on, i don't listen to him, but i would assume a good chunk of Sioux fans will be in some St. Paul bar or even the X already rather than listening to his show! go Sioux!!!!

    9-12. Perfect for tailgating!

Not true at all. Many Gopher fans, myself included, can't wait to join the Big Ten. That's where we belong. The WCHA has watered down this league for years, adding Mankato, UAA, and now Bemidji and Omaha were the last straws. We belong in a conference with other Big Ten schools like Michigan and MSU, not Division II and Division III schools like Denver, North Dakota, Duluth, St. Cloud, etc. 20 years from now we will look back and say the formation of the Big Ten Hockey Conference was one of the best things to ever happen to college hockey.

And Drunk Hockey Guy is an idiot. He made fun of Tyler Hirsch and Danny Kristo yet gets offended by people making comments about Lessard.

You're the first Gopher or Badger fan to say you're excited about the Big 10. Have fun with Penn State and OSU!

  13. That happened the summer of 2003. Honestly. Tasteless comment made by a college-aged student. Did he imply Junior was drunk? Did he imply Junior was a liar? Did he imply that Junior lost a limb or other body part and joke about it? Even you have to admit that Dirty's omment is fairly benign when compared to what you, a presumed adult, said about Danny. Inflammatory comments you said on a radio show with more listeners than a fan blog has readers. You're sorry. Good. The apology would carry more weight if you went back on that show and apologised to Danny Kristo. If you have, good for you!

Cardinal is only on once a week, usually Thursdays, so that would be the first opportunity.

  14. im personally pulling for you guys! wcha final would be awesome and it would also show those idiots from wisconsin and uofm that leaving might not be in their best interest.

The sad part is, the fans don't want to leave, and the idiots who want to aren't going to be swayed. It's ok though. The WCHA will still have two of the winningest programs in college hockey and will still attract top tier talent.

  15. I have always meant to get tested and register as a bone marrow donor but put it off due to time constraints. I'm going to find the time and hope that many of you do as well especially if you're a minority.

Yes, not just a minority, but also someone who may have a more uncommon genetic makeup. Mandi did find a donor but it was very difficult as they had a very mixed ancestry.

  16. Mandi's story made me root for Jaden and Rylan. Look at the performance they put in just over a week ago. Totally inspired by her, I have no doubt. I rarely, rarely comment on the passing of people I don't know, but her story touched my heart. Great idea to start a thread, Yzerman. I am hoping there will be a mention of her at the Frozen Four, perhaps a moment of silence.

  17. so are you saying that if i want to bring one friend to the day game and a different friend to the night game, I can't??! I have a huge bulldog fan friend that I wanted to bring to the afternoon game. My wife can't make the afternoon game, but she really wants to see the SIoux at 7.

No readmission is the most stupid thing that i've ever heard.

If you can please confirm, I guess I will tell my BullDog friend not to bother.

There's ONE way you can do this, and it might not work. Your wife and your friend would have to meet at the smoking area and trade tickets DISCREETLY.

  18. Thanks. I'm just cranky and have a headache that won't quit but ok. The car's not bad. I think the only things that need replacing are the back bumper and maybe the lights. Once the bumper is replaced maybe the lights will be ok.

I think your daughter in law might need another prescription... *hugs*

  19. You know the saying RWTD. "You can pick your friends, but not your family", So you pick Diggler...really?

    Just kidding, ya know.

BTW. I don't dislike all Dogs fans, just a few, like the one that sat in front of me at the F5. Of course, I also dislike the loud, obnoxious, drunk, Sioux fan that was about 2 rows in front of him. ???

Hahah! The sad thing is that whole story is true. Except he only got kicked out of his seat to go baby-sit his buddy. This lady comes up to the buddy and is like "YOU NEED TO STOP DANCING." So we mocked him nonstop for being such an awful dancer that he was reprimanded for it.

That is the only fun story I have from the Final Five this year. I was super duper sick and way too tired to even attend some of the games.

The fans I like the best are probably the ones considered obnoxious by others, but hey, it takes all kinds of people to make a world!

  20. You're absolutely correct but I am in a foul mood!! Driving through St. Cloud to a week-end assignment this morning, I was at a full stop for a red light and a stupid FOOL plowed into the back of my car! I have a headache which 800 mg of ibuprofen has not relieved, a broken car, was two hours late to work and I have to work. The only good thing is the flow is slow!!! I'm in a foul mood and have zero patience for fools!!!

    OMG!!!! Are you ok????

  21. Being a horse's ass the gelding's missing part must come easy to bison fans, they prove it over and over and over again. Geeze! Don't you have something to do over in Cow Pasteur land,? Shoveling comes to mind....

I'm just pretending those folks aren't there. It's so much more peaceful. I swear, it's like a full moon today or something. Or just, you know, the fools coming out to celebrate their holiday.
