  1. They can leave them, but the REA can't host a playoff, right?
  2. All I can think is its a different board with a different chancellor...different ideas, maybe...
  3. Holy moly--we're in the presence of greatness and didn't even know it!!!
  4. First amendment or not? (1) Pete Rozelle tells Jim McMahon what he can and cannot write on his headband. (2) A public school tells students which t-shirts can and cannot be worn based on what they believe is offensive or not. (3) Metrodome workers confiscate signs from fans that they believe are offensive and should not be seen in the dome. (4) MLB tells a pitcher that he cannot wear his lucky hat in the World Series, having to wear the official Series cap instead. You make the call...
  5. No, it would apply to all unis--no unis would be allowed to display certain types of insignia....I just don't see the first amendment argument flying. Think about public schools--they regulate the heck out of what kinds of clothes can be worn, what kinds of slogans/signs on t-shirts, etc....I also don't think the "sioux is in the public domain" argument will work, either...I'm sure there must be one that will, but these two seem particularly iffy to me...
  6. Hang in there, S2C....we're all praying for you and the other folks there in need...
  7. I'm perfectly content to let you claim him as one of yours!!
  8. Great news for both communities....something we all should be able to agree on!!
  9. Whoa, that's funny...how I envy your rapier wit!!
  10. From what I've heard, "both not working worth crap" would be an improvement!
  11. Go here: http://www.undeerc.org/enrollmentservices/matrix/ You can type in a gpa and an ACT and it lets you know. For the 2.4 and the 20, your application would have to be reviewed by committee, it wouldn't be automatic. In general, if you're below the 2.5/21 on one, you have to be above on the other. With a 2.4, a 22 on the ACT would get you in, provided you had the appropriate high school courses....
  12. Good point...UND and NDSU are pretty similar on admissions...both want the 2.5 and the 21, but both will adjust if one is lower and the other is higher. That just makes good sense to me....
  13. "I completely agree. "Goal North Dakota!" is just fine with me. Also, REA is not owned by UND, but don't think it matters. At Ohio State arena (Value City Arena) the NCAA had EVERYTHING covered up, no ads, no nothin...." Pretty sure you're right--for NCAA events, they have final say, regardless of public or private arena...
  14. But, in this case, "they" is "we"...colleges/universities don't work for the NCAA, they ARE the NCAA...the nickname decision wa made by the executive council, which is made up presidents and provosts....they are elected (I believe) to make decisions like this....I just don't see it...
  15. Pretty sure the SEC and the ACC are dry...anyone know about the Big 10?
  16. But how many schools actually have beer sales? I'm pretty sure that UND and Wisconsin are in the minority...
  17. Good point...One other question: people keep talking about lawsuits, but how realistic is that? Joining the NCAA is not requied, it's voluntary, and it's self-run--the university presidents and chancellors make the rules through elected (I believe) committeess...the championships are NCAA championships, put on by the NCAA, and run by their rules. If you voluntarily submit to being in an organization, have your representatives running it, what realistic chance do you have in suing if they do something you don't like? It's hard for me to see a lawsuit being successful, but stanger things have certainly happened (someone earlier mentioned the McDonald's coffee case). It might be more fruitful to challange the NCAA on the basis of it being a monopoly, at least in effect if not in reality (i.e., while there is an alternative, it really isn't much of one)...
  18. Possibly...another thing to consider, though, is how many protests there have been in the last ten years about non-NA names....agree with them or not, the NA name protests have been the loudest....in fact, I don't remember any other protests, other than some made in jest...anyone else remember any?
  19. Article I read said its because there is no living Aztec tribe...
  20. Interesting...lot of "ifs" in that story, but IF it's true you might have a point...
  21. Letting Notre Dame keep its nickname is consistent with letting the NC school founded by Native Americans keep theirs.....the NCAA apparantly sees a difference between members of a group and nonmembers...
  22. Maybe because Notre Dame was founded by Irish Catholics?
  23. Moved it because W. is going to be at the BBF and it (BBF) had to be prepped...n
