  1. Clearly, when it comes to Rioting, we are clearly lagging behind the Gophers:

    2002 Gopher Hockey Riot:

I believe they have a Rioting 101 class at the University of Minnesota for the beginning rioter. For the more experienced UorM rioting student, advanced degrees are available. You can sign up for the 400 level class - Rioting Boot Camp. That's where you get into jumping on police cars, setting cars on fire, breaking windows and destroying businesses.

  2. To expand further on what I mentioned in my previous post, someone I know ran into the Archibald's on the journey home from Omaha and asked why he went to UNO. The answer was simply UND wasn't interested and Eades told him he wasn't good enough to play Division I hockey.

I have my doubts that happened. Several years ago I had the opportunity to stand down in the Sioux locker room with a good friend of mine who was a very good player back in the 70's. This former player had a son who was interested in playing at UND and I heard first hand how Eades stressed the importance of being part of the Sioux family and it was especially important as a legacy player. I was really impressed with the passion Eades had as he talked to this dad about how special it would be for this kid to follow in his dad's legacy. The kid didn't end up coming to UND but it certainly wasn't because of anything Eade's did or didn't do.

One thing you have to remember is that, back in the day, Blaiser was the one that did the recruiting of Jim Archibald to UND and has remained close to them. That most likely had more to do with Archies kid ending up in Omaha than what is being implied here.

  3. So what is the story with Pelnik? Obviously he is a defensive defensman however those numbers are just plain unlucky, doesn't he ever fire the puck. Many of you know I'm a stat guy but typically even a stay at home defenseman can manage to have even slightly below decent numbers in juniors (especially in an issue dive league such as the bchl). I just wonder how his game will translate to the college level. On a positive note he is relatively young and if the weight on that site is accurate I'm guessing he has some filling out to do. He may be pretty raw and more of a project.

His numbers are probably similar to what Craig Ludwig's were. I'd take that anytime. :)

  4. Very much the same as the highest level of college hockey. Means nothing except to the fans of the schools involved.

    That's exactly the point:

The NCAA FCS Championship means nothing except to fans in places like Fargo, Waterloo, Brookings, Huntsville, Cheney, Grand Forks, Bozeman, Vermillion, Normal, Youngstown, etc.

The NCAA Hockey Championship means nothing except to fans in places like Boston, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Columbus, Ann Arbor, Grand Forks, Lansing, South Bend, University Park, Denver, West Point, Providence, etc.

So, the exposure and media coverage that UND would get from a NCAA FCS National Championship vs a NCAA Hockey National Championship is quite different. The hockey championships are why we've seen very large front page stories in the Boston Globe, New York Times, Minneapolis StarTrib, Denver Post, Columbus Dispatch, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Wisconsin State Journal & Detroit Free Press about the University of North Dakota.

It will be great when UND wins a few FCS championships because then we'll get coverage in those smaller markets plus our continuing great coverage in the large markets. :)

  5. Yep, "niche" sport that competes against other like-minded institutions like the "University of Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State University Spartans, Penn State University Nittany Lions, University of Wisconsin Badgers, Harvard University Crimson, Boston College Eagles, Boston University Terriers, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, University of Minnesota Gophers, Air Force Academy Falcons" for a natioanal chapionship.

    Fixed your post. :)

  6. Its about hockey and scouts- he is positioning to be a top 10 on central scouting going into next season (his draft year follows). This is all about maximizing exposure for the draft.

Toews was the #3 pick overall and you think this kid is going to be a top 10 pick? There aren't too many kids snapped up in the first 10 that struggle in the BCHL.

  7. Big Sioux fans moving to Arizona this fall. Would like to know from others who live there the best way to get games on TV. Cable or dish or direct?

I usually just go over to R.T. O'Sullivans in Mesa. It's typically packed with Sioux fans. But, if you're down in the San Tan Valley it will be a little farther for you. I'm only there during January and February so I don't bother getting a cable package.

  8. I think the Community Forum needs a place to track news stories about people who've gone off the rails, into the ditch, and rolled (bursting into flames optional).

The past few days it has to have been Anthony Weiner, but today I nominate ...

Christopher Dewitt Craig, a former MBB assistant coach at Northern Colorado, the self-described “Islamist jihadist” who said Mormons and Catholics “would be destroyed” in the next two weeks.

    http://denver.cbsloc...amist-jihadist/

    Mr. Craig, seek help.

So, are you saying that Lutheran's can go about their business over the next couple of weeks and not worry about this? :hypocrite:

  9. Edit: Fargo Forum headline updated to:

NDSU president denies deleting 45,000 emails subject to open records request; state AG investigating

That headline gave him an out. As long as the number of e-mails deleted was 44,999 or less, he can say he didn't do what he's being accused of.

  10. I believe they said the voter stuff was different from crimes of violent, drug-related, or sexual nature.

Oh OK. It's getting hard to keep the quotes straight.

Does anyone know what might fall under these three categories? And, if the crime is committed during the football season does Bohl and Taylor have the option to "let the young men have their day in court before we take action"?

  11. He's toast. I really don't care about the minors....but aggravated assault...unacceptable.

Not so fast here. When the NDSU football team was involved in the last crime against all of North Dakota tax payers, didn't Bohl and Taylor dismiss it as "at least it's not a rape or drug crime". So, while you say this is unacceptable, it might be fine with the NDSU administration. Now, if someone had died as a result of this aggravated assault, then they might have considered adding a 3rd item to the unacceptable list, but we don't know that yet.

  12. So it's not

"... with a blue pill here and half ounce there, here a pill, there a pill, ... Old MacDonald had a pharm ... "

(I left off the last part because I'm pretty sure the NDSU folks can't spell "E-I-E-I-O". ;):D )

Don't be so sure. Didn't some of them even misspell their own names when they were forging petitions?

  13. Thought I'd take a few minutes today to check North Dakota's four major cities for any news on UND and NDSU. Couldn't find any news on UND coming out of Minot.

This is what I found on UND:
