I am actually quite happy with how Bubba is handling these players. He did a huge favor to Hinojosa this summer when it could have been handled far differently and was very fair with Iversons' suspension. We will be fine at both positions with the depth and coaching we have.
On a side note, how much faster and athletic is this team from 2 years ago, wow!

What is common place nationwide? Making anonymous claims about a rivals recruiting habits and saying it has become a pattern? What is the pattern Lkvlle? Enlighten us.
I know people who have been recruited in various sports at different colleges across the country and this doesn't shock me at all. It is a competitive business and people will do a lot of things that would surprise some people who aren't familiar with the process. I don't even get why this is a big deal honestly.
No, not everyone does it, but coaching has a very short life span and some of these guys will do whatever is necessary to get the guys they want. A non-story to me.
P.s. I have no info on this claim but if it was done or not doesn't matter. Not a big deal either way.

No concern - just tweeting for diamonds in the rough and looking for depth - you never know what's out there. Best wishes to the Hartness boys but the reality is they were walk-ons - nothing wrong with that but it's not like we had two scholarship athletes quit.
I think some young kids that come in just don't understand how much time it takes to play college football. Between practice, traveling, games, and the gym, it really has to be your life. Best of luck to the young men.

Fair enough, but did you catch that second post on page 15 at all, and the many references to UND and it's recruiting?
ya and who cares. I am sure it is a common practice nation wide.

A second hand conversation whose source is the father of a kid going to a rival FCS school. Do you suppose he may have a reason to try to steer kids away from the king of the FCS hill? Maybe so his kids school has a better chance of climbing that hill? I think you would have a hard time finding a rival coach say anything bad about Klieman. But you think what you want. My guess if a story came out about Bubba like this from LkvlleNDSUfan, you may refute it also.
This literally has nothing to do with UND recruiting, can we please keep this on topic.

So he didn't play last year? What exactly does it mean that he reclassified to 2015?
I assume it was academic related. Maybe he didn't graduate and got held back? Not really sure other than that
-
I think there is some family reason's involved down where he is from. Tough decisions need to be made sometimes. He played pretty well last year and would have again this year.
There are some personal reasons I know of that don't need to be spread on a message board but I am not shocked or surpised. This is probably the best move for him personally. I Wish him the best at his new school, hopefully he can figure things out.

So in the 7 total
2 DBs
2 LBs
1 OL
1 TE
1 RB
not a bad start
LB will be a big need in a couple years. Nice To See An Early start

I am not saying any school should recruit based on which other schools are doing. And I'm not saying a kid with only one D1 offer won't turn out to be a great FCS or even a future NFL player. NDSU has had a couple of D2 transfers start for them on championship teams. Those kids probably had no D1 offers out of high school. I'm just saying because Bubba has said he and his staff are expert talent evaluators doesn't mean its true. My guess is Mussman has said in the past he and his staff were great talent evaluators also. It doesn't mean it is true. The same people predicting Bubba's rise to championships were predicts Klieman's crash and burn last year.
I will give Mussman some credit. He did have a way of finding talent at the skill positions. I just don't get how a former offensive lineman was so damn terrible at finding lineman.

Oscar is coming back after all?
I was hoping for Ryan Chappell

I don't care about other offers. Kenny Golladay had no others offers and he's going to be in the NFL.
Sigh, if only we had Golladay and Mike Edwards still on the roster.....

At this point we could be the Fighting Banana Slugs for all I care, i'm just sick of hearing about a nickname for years on end. Pick something and pray to god it will be sports season soon because this offseason has been overly lame.....

Why do the masses want to have "no nickname"? Obviously, North Dakota is not a nickname, because its a proper identifier, the actual name of the state, and the actual name of the university. A nickname is a substitute for the proper term, not a redundancy.
I can say with fair certainty the public favoritism towards "no nickname" exists not because having "no nickname" would be beneficial to the university as a DI school, because, clearly, no other universities of DI status claim "no nickname". It largely limits marketing and identification qualities on a NATIONAL scale (which should be the goal of any DI athletic program), not just a local scale.
Also, the claim that the list contains no proper replacements is perhaps reasonable, but not catastrophic as some suggest. Roughriders or Fighting Hawks would do just fine. High schools athletics do not even compare to DI college athletics. Secondly, non-GF graduates and most outside of the Grand Forks area could care less what the local high school mascots are. Additionally, some logos suggested for the Fighting Hawks have been quite artistic and unique and would have positive marketing potential.
In all reality, this entire emotional tirade is nothing more than a bunch of supporters having severe difficulty letting go. Blame the NCAA. Blame the legal settlement terms. But do not blame the nickname committee for having to do what their title suggested: select a nickname. Why should we condone the message "If we can't have this, then we should have nothing at all"? That is a societal fallback that is deplorable and problematic. Compromises need to be made in several contextual areas in life, and simply doing nothing is the emotional, irrational alternative to that; as a supporter of constructive criticism, procedural deliberation, and objective thought, I support the former rather than the latter.
The saddest part about this is all the alumni I heard saying they will no longer support the university if they pick a new nickname.
I will always put my school first and will continue to donate annually as it has done so much for me. I have lost a lot of respect for the people who are willing to no longer support the school because of a nickname.
Also, yes I do love the Fighting Sioux nickname and will always love it. The school is just so much more than a nickname.
People are just being irrational and emotional and it is highly frustrating.

I think they wouldn't mind a vanilla name that didn't cause any problems. The last thing you want is another controversial nickname. What a joke! Seems like every name that seems likeable is tossed. There were names like Oilers, Bombers, Aviators, Jets, ..just a few that seem decent, acceptable and make some sense all are now gone.
Sun Dogs and NoDaks WTF!!!!! Many feel Roughriders is boring and it just plain sucks! Opposing fans will like it...North Dakota will be the brunt of every prophylactic joke for years to come!
keep up the great work!

The best decision was made for the long term future of UND tonight. Thanks to the 7 people on the committee that undertsood that. The fighting Sioux forever crowd will throw their temper tantrum but eventually they/we will all move on. I'd take Roughriders Northstars or maybe fighting Hawks out of the 5 with Roughriders being my favorite. Glad we can all move forward from the Sioux name now. Go Fighting Sioux and go whatever name we choose moving forward. Nicknames come and go UND lasts forever.
Perfectly said!

Ya great plan, then everyone will vote for this stupid idea and it will cause even more arguments as it would get the most votes and not be used.@AnnagatorB: #Newnickname meeting extended-They're discussing putting UND/ND in the voting just to see what the public thinks, not for consideration.
Waste of time.
This is a 2 step process
1) pick a nickname and get it done with.
2) move on with life as it is just a nickname.
-
You would think so. But stupidity has a habit of getting its way.
I honestly will laugh when that is chosen and it has taken this long to decide on it......

Honestly, I don't even care anymore. This whole process has been ridiculous, it is just a nickname at the end of the day.
-
Thank god, just North Dakota was such a dumb idea. Every other team in the country has a nickname for a reason. I am guessing it will be Roughriders. Has made the most sense for awhile now.

You have enough money to finish it?
For phase 1 yes, I believe fundraising is going on right now for phase 2.
-
I suppose it happens to me about once a year, except it has to do with Notre Dame's football chances.
Yup and then they finally get good and the best player has a fake dude girlfriend.....
-
Off topic but does this actually happen to people?
1 time back in college......never again. Thought she was Jessica Alba during the night......sigh. Talk about waking up disappointed.
Back on topic. I am assuming Olivera is having his shirt pulled, but how much can we really expect out of him?
-
"Spirit" and "Pride" need to die, post haste.
I am trying to think of what a mascot would be for these 2 or even a logo and have literally no idea
-
No you're right, Green Hawks or Spirit is way better than what has worked for the last few years. Honestly, staying North Dakota is not about keeping an unofficial name at this point, or not moving on, it is simple the best option out of the sh&%$y list they provided.
Poorly done by the committee as a whole. Wtf is a Green Hawk, and you really believe that Sun Dogs is a better option that North Dakota?!?!?! WOW
It shouldn't even be an option as its not a nickname. Every other college in the country has a nickname for a very good reason

I didn't hear anything on Harris, but I do know what happened with Iverson. It was nothing major but you can probably all figure out what it was. As with Hinojosa, I do know what happened but because the coaches want to keep it in house, I will respect that and not put out in public what happened. I will say that I was shocked he made it through 2014 and was even more surprised that they announced he left on good terms. He has some inner demons and character issues that need to be resolved before football is a priority and I appreciate that the staff is keeping it private.
The reason I am bringing this up is because at the end of the day these are Student-Athletes. Bubba puts a lot of importance into that and you must earn the right to wear the school colors. He is turning these boys into men and going about it in such a classy way. This team is the tightest it has been in a long time and it is refreshing to see a coach who goes about things in all the right ways.
