Ask anyone internally and it was in the best interest of everyone that the old running backs coach left.

that may be, but getting the same position at another Big sky School for a significant raise shouldn't happen. We need to have a coaching budget like NDSU does to stay competitive.

  2. A team is only as good as it's assistant coaches. We simply need a bigger budget to recruit better talent. heck, we lost our old running backs coach to another program at the same position. That should not happen. We are simply scraping the bottom of the barrel with money and it is showing on the field.

I see you have been "Csonked Out" lately

    I will see myself out.

it's a Larry Csonka reference, my personal favorite player. I do admit though that I am into baseball in the summer, haven't followed the off season for football at all.

Wait....so you're saying they are Olympians?

That was the main reason they went to Minnesota their freshman year in my opinion to ensure they would get the exposure to make the team. That being said, that shouldn't be a reason why a program that loses millions of dollars yearly stay in place. It is a dumb argument

Most people forget the twins were gophers until they realized it wasn't all about them there and transferred.  Ironic, they leave and Minny wins national titles.

I don't think they went to Minnesota for anything except exposure. They used their freshman years to get on the Olympic team and after they achieved that they transferred here. I have no problem with them being upset about the program closing as hockey is their life and they have every right to use their freedom of speech. It sucks for them but it was absolutely the right call.

You didn't miss my point, you chose to not acknowledge it. Brad is a reporter and failed to report the entire story. Instead he chose to ignore facts and play on people's emotion. His reporting on this has been a complete half story and I know he is better than that. I think a spot at CNN just opened up for him.

Lastly, anyone who thinks objectively knows that Womens hockey and big time do not belong in the same sentence.

another example of how far back journalistic integrity has fallen. It is darn near impossible to get a full story on a topic anymore without going to various resources, it shouldn't have to be that way. Publishing the numbers would have ruined his argument so why even bring it up, he was simply talking from emotion and while that is his right, as a journalist more should be expected.

If (big if) this is true in ten minutes, I note that they've chopped significantly more that $1.3 million.

He did say he only wanted to do this once, yes it was a mess, but this would take care of it. Time to competitively pay our coaches for remaining sports.

I personally enjoy women's hockey and attend the games while I am in town. I think with hockey being so popular in the area a lot of little girls grow up learning to skate and potentially playing hockey. If we cut the women's team, fewer girls will have the dream of playing hockey. I also enjoy the international flair on the team and having numerous women's players in international tournaments including the Olympics.

That being said, I live in Colorado and only make it to about a game a year. While attendance is higher now than when I was I college, it still seems small for the large building. I would think k for women's hockey, cutting the team will save you coaches salaries (although would there be a severance package?), travel, and equipment. You aren't saving money on facilities because the Ralph is still there.

I see both sides of the argument. I understand that women's hockey doesn't generate revenue. But a majority of the sports do not. I would look at lowering expenses for women's hockey and hope to keep it.

I believe Women's Hockey also gets some funds for athlete's for extra expenses that our glorious AD said we would do without even checking in to see if we could afford it.

Kennedy could have made any committee he wanted. He chose an already existing committee.

I don't believe this is the end all be all. My opinion is that he wants to get a feel from individuals within the University and this committee had a variety of people in it. I am fully expecting him make this decision on his own after reviewing the numbers. I would be shocked if he made a decision based off of a committees recommendation, just strikes me as a guy who let's the numbers speak for themselves.

It probably could also happen once. Probably be at or very close to the minimum number of sports a school has to offer.

Oh boy then there will be no "savings account" like there is now by cutting sports....what would UND do?

    Increase student fees?

Cut Scholarships? (Was it golf or baseball that had one or two scholarships?)

    Cut FCOA?

Quite frankly, we shouldn't have done FCOA right away. You don't commit that type of money just because your neighbors did.

Chair of the committee asked about going back to division 2....this president Kennedy guy is making quite a name for himself in a small amount of time.

If we are only going to do this once during his tenure, I have no problem with throwing all the options out on the table.

To me one of the following 3 things will happen that I classify as major:

    1) Women's Hockey is dropped

    2) Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving, Softball, and Women's Soccer all get the axe

    3) We switch conference affiliation

Personally, I don't think we switch conferences as there is a lot of value in being in a strong and stable conference that offers football along with the rest of our core sports. The Big Sky also fits our school from an academic standpoint.

Right now my gut says option 2 is probably what will happen but only time will tell.

Not overly suprising given his position. I hope he can find a team that will give him a chance at LB.

at his height, I am guessing he will be in the CFL to make a name for himself. Was in a tough spot behind a pro bowl Fullback.

Neither of the A's in NCAA stands for attendance.  I would like to hear from student athletes who came up through non-revenue, non-spectator-other-than-parents-and-friends sports to see if any of the NCAA's stated ideals have merit.  Either college sports are a good philosophical idea AT THEIR CORE--and thus deserving of funding and investment--or they aren't.  An empty arena is irrelevant IF the student athletes are being fulfilled through education, character, integrity, personal growth, development, etc.  A lot of views expressed on this subject focus more on the entertainment value to the individual, and not on the bigger picture.

Like it or not, $$$ does matter and empty arenas don't provide any revenue. It sounds good on paper but it does not apply to Division 1 athletics. Especially for an institution that is looking into it's athletic finances, if you don't provide revenue you go away. That is the reality we are in right now.

If you want that sentence to apply then you need to go to a privately funded D3 school.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, so decided to put it here.

his favorite movie must be Coach Carter, but if I was a talented recruit who had my choice of schools why would I pick  a school with a list like this. I get the point but let's get real.

heard it from two separate sources that are close to the program.  Would love it if the information is wrong....

I heard it as well , I just refuse to post credible information on this site anymore. Too many people jump down your throat for it, just not worth it anymore.
